I came across a chart earlier today which supposedly details the minimum CP needed by each Pokémon in order to reach 1000 CP when they evolve.

[PokeCommunity.com] Minimum CP needed to reach 1000

I'm very curious as to how accurate this chart is and I believe it'd be a very useful reference for us to have whilst playing, so as a community I think we can do some great testing on this and try to make it as accurate as possible. To participate, simply talk about the experiences you've had with CP and Pokémon evolution, comment on how accurate you think these values are, and most importantly try to record some data of pre- and post-evolution CP values for your Pokémon.

    It's research time!

What about if i need more than 1000 CP. I think this is useless.

I recommend to use an evolve calculator. This is more effficient. https://www.evolvecalculator.com shows you max CP (it would be less then %2-%3) when you evolve your pokemon.
One issue with many calculators like these is that they assume perfect IVs for CP.

A better way to present the information is to look at the CP multiplier range for individual Pokémon. For instance, Magikarp's multiplier is between 10x - 11x. So yes, it makes sense in the OP's list that the minimum CP level for Magikarp to reach a CP1000 Gyarados would be at least CP100.

Knowing multipliers, then if you say you want at least a CP2000 Gyarados, you'd argue you'd need at least a CP200 Magikarp. And based on my personal experience of evolving a CP201 Magikarp to a CP2097 Gyarados, I would say that fits right in.

Eevee's another popular target for CP multipliers. The OP's chart also makes sense considering:
    - Multiplier for Jolteon is roughly 2.1x
    - Multiplier for Flareon is roughly 2.5x
    - Multiplier for Vaporeon is roughly 2.7x

Remember these are just averages. The multiplier has a range, which would make sense to have the Pokémon you're evolving be at the bare minimum CP level prior to evolution.

Then again, all of this is completely pointless because you'll still end up using the same amount of Stardust and candies to power up the evolved form as you would the pre-evolved form anyway. A level 26 player with a level 25 going to 25.5 Bulbasaur will cost the same as a level 25 going to 25.5 Ivysaur which will cost the same as a level 25 going to 25.5 Venusaur. All will cost 4000 Stardust and 3 Bulbasaur candies.
