The first generation started with only a basic set of moves (164). This set expanded during Gen II and III to 353 moves, more than twice as many. Yet still new moves keep being added. In Gen VI the number of moves counts 620, almost the double of the moves in Gen III.

Which necessary moves do you think the third generation lacks?

For me the third gen really lacks decent Bug-type moves. Bug Pokémon mostly aren't very strong Pokémon, but Pokémon like Scyther can't even learn any Bug moves. Secondly I miss the move Iron Head. Iron Tail is a nice move, but I prefer moves with high accuracy during a playthrough.

3rd Gen didn't include the PSS (Physical/Special Split) so I think we were fine with the amount of moves we hate. Yeah, there was a limited amount of Bug-Type moves and other types, but to be honest there wasn't even that much of a need for Bug-Type moves. We got Silver Wind, and even Megahorn. But I think if we did get around 30 more moves it would've made some Pokémon more useful and diverse. If you compare Gen 6's movepools to Gen 3's, you'd have noticed 3rd Gen's movepools were pretty dull.

I would've liked more Dragon-Type moves. The amount in Gen III wouldn't really cut it for me, only Dragon Claw would do the job. Dragon Pulse would've been amazing back then, it would've made using Dragonair and levelling it up much easier. (I thought Twister was cool, but a horrible move)

Yeah, as i've said this was to me one of the biggest slumps about Generation III, that so few Pokémon had any good moves to use. While some types had alright moves, they weren't very common. Close Combat would've been nice here, for one.

I can't speak for others, but I, for one, would've liked it if they were to introduce more status-affecting moves in generation three.

One good example of this would be Scald; this attack has a great amount of chance at burning your opponent, which winds up to be very useful competitively. If they were to release this move back then, alongside other variations of it, perhaps, it likely would have had a decent impact on competitive side of things and whatnot.

Aside from that, I also wish they had given us access to more range of dragon-type attacks. When generation three of games were still an ongoing thing, dragon moves were lacking severely (they still do now, but I suppose not as much?), and I feel it would've been nice to see them improve on that.
