So I have been tasked, after much time away from the games, to make a single type team. I choose water types, due to their versatility, but I still need balance. Here's the few pokemon I have picked:

    Azumarill @Assault Vest
    Ability: Sap Sipper
    Ice Punch
    Play Rough
    Waterfall
    Knock Off/Aqua Jet/Superpower

Here is my anti-grass water type. With Sap Sipper and Ice Punch, grass types would have a hard time, unless they could also use poison moves effectively. Add in his high versatility, and he makes quite the threat. He is truly my star, and the only pokemon I might argue removing.

Other than him, pokemon I have thought of are:
    Gyarados (possible mega)
    Swampert (possible mega)
    Milotic
    Kingdra
    Clawitzer

The megas are both good, but the point of both of them is EQ, as electric is the other main weakness to water. Milotic is good due to her solid defenses, and kingdra's superior typing means it isn't weak to typical water weaknesses. Clawitzer is a strange pick, but is really good with choice scarf, as its ability makes running aura sphere, Dragon pulse, water pulse, and dark pulse worthwhile. Outside of that, I'm drawing blanks, as I rarely do this. Any help would be appreciated.

Just so you know, I know swift swim is banned. This group that's pulling me in, though, chooses not to play smogon rules. I prefer it, for balance, but it's something to keep in mind

From the sounds of it, rain is my best choice. The only reason I hesitated is due to its recent ban on smogon. Since my group doesn't play those rules, I can use it, but I thought it would be too unfair, especially due to kingdra, manaphy, and mega-swampert. I'll check with the head of the group, though.

In the meantime, what would you suggest for a non-rain team?

    Ok, so I would have:

Alomomola-defensive tank. Instead of protect or toxic, I was thinking a second rain dance user. Given its bulk and pass support, it seemed the best option.

Empoleon-special defensive, exactly as posted. I like it

Mega-Swampert: Definitely going rain set up, as both it and Manaphy work well off of it

Azumarill: I wouldn't get rid of my beast if someone paid nd

Manaphy: I may consider it a legendary and not like to use it, but in this team, it's truly necessary. Plus tail glow is super strong.

The last one is still unknown. I found out that this group doesn't ban drizzle, but I'd like not to break that rule. Lanturn was a good idea, but leaning towards either kingdra or volcanion...

Volcanion may be a better option in order to give the team an easier time against Grass Pokemon:
    -Fire Blast/Flamethrower
    -Steam Eruption
    -Sludge Bomb
    -Earth Power/Hidden Power (Grass)
    Nature: Timid/Modest
    EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Choice Specs/Leftovers/Mystic Water/Splash Plate

Oh hey, PlatinumDude. Long time no talk.

I thought so. Though would expert belt be ok on it? Actually...life orb?

Life Orb eats away at Volcanion's decent bulk. That, and it's not really fast enough.

Expert Belt means you lose power on neutral targets. Leftovers is the same thing, but at least Volcanion has passive recovery. Mystic Water/Splash Plate allows Volcanion to bluff Specs, while still powering up Steam Eruption.

Another technical question. My leftovers is on Manaphy atm. This leaves Empoleon itemless. Would Citrus Berry work? And is it better on Manaphy or Empoleon? I'd imagine it's better on Manaphy, as it's supposed to sweep after set up, while Empoleon is bulkier, and would strive to pivot or body, both requiring time (thus leftovers better) but I'm still a bit of a novice. Thoughts?

Item clause is unnecessary. You can get away with using multiples of the same item. If you're insistent on playing by item clause, Wacan Berry or Rindo Berry can be used on Manaphy to give it a one-time buffer against one of its weaknesses.
