Well I'm back with another challenge for all of you :)! Those who know me might be thinking, "Great... this guy has yet another challenge for us that he's NOT going to finish..." I didn't finish the last (2) Monotype challenges because, A.) I was doing 3 challenges at the moment and running two of them, B.) I had played through all of my games at least twice within 2 months... so I was kind of worn out of Pokemon, and C.) Tests, tests, tests...

Now I've though of something new for you guys to do. This is a Mono-Species challenge, where you undertake one Pokemon species (and its evolution line) to use throughout the entire game! You can use your favorite Pokemon over... and over... and over again.

Here are the rules for Le Challenge:

-You may only use one species of Pokemon (i.e. you have 6 Pikachus on your team)

-You may use any Pokemon that is in the evolution line of your chosen Pokemon (i.e. You can have both Ponyta and Rapidash on your squad as one evolves into another)

-You cannot use any other species of Pokemon in the game, unless you want to catch a Pokemon for your Dex that's at a much lower level (talk to me about it)

    -No legendaries!

    -No cheating... period!

-You can only gameshark ONCE to get a Pokemon early on in the game (with my permission of course :P)

-The challenge ends when you have defeated the Elite 4 with your army of (insert name of Pokemon here)!

    -Have Fun!

    -Update Frequently!!

EDIT:- You MAY do a Second Challenge, just PM with your request and I'll get right to it.

    Example:
    Trainer Name: Ryan

I hope I can finish this one. I will try it with Blastoise because I don't have a ROM and I still have my old Blue.

Well, after failing completely at the other mono challenge I did for RBY, hopefully, I'll do better with this. Mind if I take Raticate?

    Trainer Name: Jax
    Pokemon Species: Raticate
    Game: Red

Been power playing lately. I've started off the other day (choosing Squirtle as my starter) and worked until I caught a level 2 Rattata. Then, I sort of let it sit for awhile before picking it up last night and today. I trained little Rattata up until it was level 6 before depositing Squirtle and proceeding to go into Viridian Forest. Right about then, I started battling everything I could find, including all three trainers, my rival (west of Viridian City), and what felt like several hundred poor, pathetic Weedle. By the time I hit Brock, I was level 16.

    Brock + Normal-type = @#@%@#!!

His Geodude went down in a few Hyper Fangs, taking a large chunk of Rattata's HP with it. However, when Brock sent out Onix, the hilarity began.

See, Onix, for whatever reason, thought it would be a really good idea to spam Bide, and Rattata is perpetually faster than a huge freaking rock snake. Ergo, whenever Onix would collect energy, I switched from attempting to spam Hyper Fang to spamming Tail Whip like crazy. Yes, Tail Whip. What I thought was one of the most useless attacks in the game turned out to be the only reason why I didn't flipping die. One Hyper Fang took out almost half of Onix's HP. Follow this with a Potion and a couple more Tail Whips, and two more Hyper Fangs finished him off. Boulderbadge get!

So, I proceeded to Mt. Moon, blitzing every trainer along the way. Even in Mt. Moon, I had almost no trouble, going through almost the entire place without needing to touch any of my healing items (even the Ether I picked up in the basement). I chose the Dome Fossil at the end (because I'm a bit partial to Kabuto for, uh, very good reasons -- *coughs and points at avatar*) and proceeded to Cerulean City.

Cerulean. Home of Water Pokemon, Nugget Bridge, Bill, and the @#@% we all know as game!Misty. Her trainers went down fairly easily, but even with spamming Hyper Fangs, she nearly killed me off with Starmie. Not because I was underleveled. Holy crap, I was four above Starmie. It's the fact that Hyper Fang hated me right then, and she used a blinking X Defend. Who does that anyway?

In any case, with Raticate limping back to the Pokemon Center, we still Hyper Fanged the blasted star into submission. Cascadebadge get!

So, after that, I headed northward to Nugget Bridge. My rival faced me first, and he went down in exactly this order: Hyper Fang, Tackle, Tackle, Hyper Fang. Not even kidding you. It took me four moves to wipe that smirk off his face.

Didn't even heal up as I went northward, through Nugget Bridge to wipe the map with that Team Rocket recruiter at the end. At that point, I saved and realized, "Well, crap, I'm going to need an HM slave at some point."

Looks like I'll be training Squirtle a little after all. Because, you know, I was an idiot and didn't think to capture potential HM slaves beforehand.

    - Tackle
    - Tail Whip
    - Quick Attack
    - Hyper Fang

I didn't really do much yet other than beating the crap out of my rival and training to level 10. Im about to enter the Viridian Forest and then go back and beat my rival on that place west of Viridian City.

    Power playing again, guys.

    Trainer Name: Jax
    Pokemon Species: Raticate
    Game: Red

First thing I did was board the SS Anne and kicked my rival's rear. Which, really, wasn't that difficult because my Raticate was like, "lol Quick Attack and Hyper Fang." It was almost literally a repeat of Nugget Bridge.

Then, after beating all but one of the trainers on the boat (because it's a tradition for me to go see the truck at some point in the game), I trained Squirtle up enough to withstand an Oddish for capture. Said Oddish was then used for a Cut slave to get into Vermilion Gym.

You know what I hate about that Gym, by the way? Not Surge. He was easy. The locks. Because it would invariably take me about an hour to find both locks. No, seriously. It did. Maybe I just royally fail, but the first lock would always come in the middle of a cross of trash cans, and the second lock will always be in a trash can I didn't decide to check next. When I finally found the blasted second lock, it was in a trash can that I'd checked a second before finding the first lock. Go figure.

Oh, and Surge? Spammed Hyper Fang until he shut up. Thunderbadge get!

So, after that, got HM Flash (after catching a bunch of Pokemon to meet the requirement -- oops) and continued onward to the front of Rock Tunnel. This'll be fun.

    Log:

I eagerly started my game, and after choosing Squirtle as my starter (so this challenge would be a tad bit easier), I got Oak's parcel and eventually my Pokedex. After that I quickly caught a wild Growlithe, and deposited Squirtle. I then beat every bug catcher in Viridian Forest and even went back and beat my rival, west of Viridian City.

After that I trained Growlithe to a fierce level by beating every bug pokemon I could find and decided that I would challenge Brock to a battle (I thought that, Growlthe would learn ember after beating Geodude). I managed to beat Geodude, by spamming bite but lost when Brock decided to use Rock Throw instead of Bind, causing Growlthe to faint.

It was only then, when I looked up when Growlithe actually learnt Ember, I found out how hard this challenge was going to be.

I quickly went back into Viridian forest and managed to beat enough wild pokemon to get Growlithe to learn Ember. After that I healed Growlithe, bought some potions, and re challenged Brock. Geodude went down in one hit, thanks to Growlthie's high level, but Onix managed to stay longer and severely weaken him. Brock would of won, but he decided to use bind, instead of Rock Throw (which would KO Growlthe right there), and I managed to pull of the victory using ember.

With my new badge in hand, I healed my pokemon and headed out to Mt Moon. Growlithe defeated everyone in the mountain, including the Hikers, with no trouble. I didn't even need to use any of the leftover potions that I had on me since the Brock battle.

I quickly arrived at Cerulean City, and since I knew that this battle would be extremely hard, I headed towards bill's house to train. On my way there, I beat my Rival, who though that having more Pokedex pages than me was a good thing. I then beat every one of the trainers of Nugget Bridge and the path to bill's house. After barging into his house and turning Bill back into a human, I got the ticket for the SS Annie and view his favorite pokemon anyways.

Feeling extremely confident from my last gym encounter, I entered Misty's gym looking for a battle. I quickly defeated her gym trainers, and healed my pokemon in order to fight Misty fairly. The battle was intense; Growlithe managed to put Staryu out of business really quickly but struggled against Starmie. The main problem against that pokemon was the fact that it was faster than Growlithe, which meant I couldn't hope that I flinched it. I did eventually win but only because I got a Critical hit when Growlithe's hp was extremely low and I had a 8 level advantage.

After my victory I healed Growlithe at the nearby pokemon center and made my final preparations before leaving this town.

After an insane amount of playing (clock currently reads somewhere over nine hours), I have the eighth badge.

    Okay, so, rewind.

Somehow made it through Rock Tunnel by the skin of my teeth and running away screaming like a little girl whenever I hit a wild Pokemon (because three moves and 19021802 trainers are not a good combination), only to hit Lavender Town. By then, I was already at an insane level because I previously overleveled my Raticate like crazy -- and, oh yeah, didn't use anyone else for backup since I trained Wartortle -- so I just sort of walked over to Celadon City, beating the crap out of everyone I met with RATICATE OF DOOM. Who I named Odin, for the head god of Norse mythology. As in, RAT OF DOOM somehow = ship full of Vikings. Or maybe I was just drunk at the time.

Anyway, hit up the Celadon Gym first. And then stopped halfway through smacking around Grass Pokemon because, oh yeah, I kinda need Antidotes. (@%@#ing girls.) Finally got to Erika, who went down with almost a straight row of Hyper Fangs, save for a Quick Attack to get her blasted Vileplume to stay down. Rainbowbadge get!

So, by now, I look at the next two things on my agenda and realize long side story is long. Nonetheless, without (excessive) complaining, I went into Rocket Game Corner, smacked Giovanni around for the first time, stole the Silph Scope from him, and headed up Pokemon Tower, cursing half the time because I realized the Gastly and Haunter of every single channeler laughed at Bubblebeam.

Still, managed to get the Pokeflute, then went on a quest to beat down every single trainer from Lavender Town to Fuchsia. Why didn't I take Cycling Road? Too lazy to get a bike (even though I know about the glitch that could get me in there without one).

Fuchsia City, home of ninja. Or at least ninja wannabes. Ever notice how all of Koga's minions have Pokemon of types that can kill his Pokemon, yet no one bothers to overthrow him? Maybe that's trying to tell us he's one awesome ninja, but I'm just thinking, "Guys, seriously. I can beat him with a Raticate spamming Hyper Fang. What's your problem?" Soulbadge get!

On to Saffron City. It was harder to get past Silph Co than the actual Gym. Battled Giovanni for a second time and my rival (who really is more of a prick in the games than anywhere else, now that I think about it) and headed over to Sabrina's to work my way through the warp tiles.

I love her minions, though. One of them tells me, in an effort to convince me he's psychic, "You're headed towards Sabrina. I can tell!" No. Really? Geez, man, it's like you can read my mind to find out why I'm in the back corner of your Gym.

The Kadabra and Alakazam went down with Quick Attacks, and the others took Hyper Fangs. Marshbadge get!

After beating down the dojo next door for a Hitmonlee (for no reason other than I wanted to beat all of the trainers in Kanto before hitting the E4), I went to Cinnabar by way of Pallet Town, mostly because I didn't feel like hitting Seafoam Island. This time, I had the brilliant idea of buying a ton of Max Repels from the mart before heading into the Pokemon Mansion, so I only battled the trainers inside before I finally got to the key. Why this Gym needs a special key is beyond me, personally. Maybe Blaine's just paranoid (given the number of locked doors in his Gym), or maybe he forgets that the point of being a Gym Leader is, you know, having a Gym that's open to trainers. And why would he put the key in the back of a dilapidated mansion? Shady if you ask me. Unless he's a squatter.

Spammed Bubblebeam. For once, that move is actually useful other than to save my rear in the Rock Tunnel. Volcanobadge get!

From there, it was a quick Fly back to Viridian (would've Surfed, but I didn't want to face 120293 level 2 and 3 Pokemon along Route 1), and I went into Viridian Gym to battle Giovanni. Minions weren't that bad, and Giovanni went down with another spamming of the Bubblebeams. By now, it's clear that my in-game strategy is to spam as many moves as possible. Earthbadge get!

Battled rival again, which wouldn't have been so bad if Odin didn't decide to miss twice in a row using Hyper Fang. Thinking about replacing it now. Maybe I should, considering I've got to do something with that crapload of TMs sitting in my box anyway. I need bag space, dagnabit!

Guys. My uber Raticate and I took on the Elite Four... and we won.

After using a few TMs, fighting my way through Victory Road, and touring Cycling Road and the sea east of Seafoam Island for trainers I hadn't smacked yet, I flew back to Indigo Plateau, withdrew all of my healing items, deposited everyone except Odin, stocked up on Full Restores, Full Heals, and Max Potions through the little mart there, and headed in.

And I was praying to all kinds of gods to make it through, because I had only one Pokemon with me.

    Lorelei
Most of her Pokemon went down pretty easily with Body Slam. The only ones that didn't were Cloyster and Slowbro. Cloyster, thankfully, got paralyzed and couldn't move the first turn, so he went down with a Swift on the second. Slowbro used Amnesia, and Odin finished him off the same way.

    Bruno
Rock-types got Bubblebeamed. Fighting-types got Body Slamed. OHKOs for all except Machamp, but thankfully there, Bruno got stupid and used X Defend instead of attacking. I finished off with Ice Beam.

    Agatha
...Was a real prick to take down. Seriously. The Gengars needed two to three Ice Beams each (and a Bubblebeam for the first one), during which they nearly annihilated me with Night Shade. (Thank God for Max Potion.) The others behaved and went down with Ice Beam OHKOs.

    Lance
The Dragonairs and Dragonite were quickly dispatched with Ice Beam, but the others... Gyarados survived a Body Slam and used Hyper Beam. Thinking I was fine, I used Swift to finish it off. Then, Aerodactyl came in. I tried using Bubblebeam to take it down, but then it used Bite, landing a critical hit (!!), which prompted another Bubblebeam to the face.

    Rival
After healing up and administering a couple of ethers, I went in and prepared myself. Pidgeot went down in one Ice Beam, and Alakazam and Rhydon followed with a Body Slam and Bubblebeam, respectively.

Now, let me tell you something that really ticks me off about the first generation. There is no such thing as 100% accuracy except for Swift. So, even if you have a move like Body Slam, which wouldn't miss in later generations as long as you haven't taken hits to your accuracy, you're still going to randomly miss in RBY.

And so, Odin took a Hydro Pump to the face. Yeah, why Hydro Pump hits and Body Slam doesn't is beyond me.

Luckily, Odin has enough HP left to survive a Hydro Pump and a Leer while trying again with a Body Slam. The thing went down in a hit.

Arcanine goes up next, and Odin Bubblebeams him, thinking he can make a clean getaway because Bubblebeam scored an OHKO against Arcanine outside of Indigo Plateau. But no, Arcanine survives and gets in a Take Down. I step in to use a Max Potion because Odin looks like he's about to keel over, and Arcanine uses Roar. (WTF.) Odin finishes the job on the stupid dog.

Venusaur, meanwhile, doesn't stand a chance against Ice Beam from a freaking level 83 Raticate.

And so, Odin and I proudly walk into the Hall of Fame and record our name forever in the annals of history...

...Until I go off to screw with glitches now that my challenge is over.

Alright, so I start the game, do the little introduction thingy. Name my Rival Scoot, as I always do. Nab Squirtle. Blah BLah Bah.
Lets skip to the part where the adorable pink ball of air comes in.

So I nab Jigglypuff at Level 5 and nickname her "Jiggles" and then go on to commit mass caterpie genecide in Viridian Forest.
That is after is learned effing Pound.

So we go up and continue, back down route 3, bobbing and weaving our way past the many shorts obsessed youngsters.
Then we get to Mount Moon, thinking we're all that.
I died...A lot. Jiggles was only level 9 or so, so I saw most of it coming, but I had to make like, seven trips back to the Pokemon center.
but eventually I found TM12 Watergun, and then went on to pwn the many Geodudes that stood in our path, and eventually got TFO of that hellhole.

After that I went up to Nugget Bridge only to reaize I had to fight Scoot.
So I tihnk I'm gonna lose, but then I just put Pigeotto to sleep and take it out in a few hits.
After Pigeotto I proceeded to beat the living snot out of the rest of his team.
That was when I realized just how incredibly Godlike Jigglypuff really is.

After that I went on to obliterate all trainers that stood in my path. Simply by spamming pound.
Then I went to fight Misty, easily taking out Staryu in three pounds, then putting Starmie to sleep and took it out in about seven or so pounds.
Jiggles took no damage at all. I swapped Watergun with bubblebeam afterwards.

Now I'm heading down to Vermillion, Jiggles still being epic and pwning everything.

Gave OAK his package, bought 6 PokéBalls, caught a Level 3 Rattata, released Charmander. Caught 5 more Rattata. Defeated Rival. Got to Pewter city (Current main Rattata level: 15), sold 1 Pokéball (from Forest) and bought 5 potions. Defeated Jr Trainer in Pewter Gym. Beat Brock. (WOW! I beat Brock with Rattata and I only used Hyper Fang). Leveled up main to level 20 in Mt. Moon, stopped Rattata from evolving (going to let him evolve at level 34). Cleared Mt. Moon. Wiped out Misty and her gym cronies. Saved Bill from being trapped as a Pokémon forever! Ewww... I rubbed am old sea captains back! Left the ship and evolved Ratty (My main Rattata) into Raticate at level 34.

Are you allowed to do this after I've claimed Raticate? I know that my challenge is over, but still. You could just be using my logs as a guide. =/

I'm not sing you're loggs, for one, you're writing loggs for Elite Four, I'm doing my WHOLE Pokémon Adventure. How am I supposed to copy you if you haven't done it?

Wait, what? I did the entire Kanto circuit. O_o Read all of my posts in the thread, and you'll see that I updated whenever I defeated another bunch of Gyms. (To help, log 1, log 2, log 3, log 4, covering from Viridian Forest up to the E4 gauntlet).

Secondly, if you read the first post of the thread, you'll notice that the challenge only lasts up until you beat the Elite Four anyway. So, really, I performed the entire challenge with Raticate.
