Absolutely no trading in for a grass type. You got so many at your disposal...

how about using chikorita as a starter, catching bellspout, catch hoppip, catch oddish, catch sunflora, and then catch exeggcute.

Yes man. As long as you catch them legitemately in game it's all good.

Ok, so I think I'm starting with a new type, then.

Name: Aquerex
Type: Water
Version: Soul Silver

Ok! I think I have my team planned out.

Poliwrath
Feraligatr
Lapras
Quagsire
Lanturn
Slowbro

Dude pick grass because grass beat water

Thanks .EJ I`m already at the first gym with bayleaf level 18 and a level 10 bellsprout

Storm Eater: Grass is hard with the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Gym.
That's every single Gym but the Normal one.

Water is hard with the 7th and 8th only.
Plus I already started. :D

BUT, we could have a race to see who can beat it first! How 'bout it?

now at the third gym no sweat at all
what! the hell just happened I lost oh well just keep moving forward
because my level 16 bellsprout disappointed me

Sorry, Storm Eater, but I'm calling BS on that. There are too many side-missions you have to complete before you can move on in the game.

what dont I`m just telling the gyms Ive past not the side missions I`m just too fast for ya

Oh, I have no doubt in my mind you are . . .

Anyway:

I started my first monotype challenge today on Soul Silver. The type I choose was Dragon. I IV and shiny bred a Gible and Trapinch to transfer to my game to start. These will probably be the only Pokémon I use during this challenge.

So far I have:
  • Received my starters, Gible and Trapinch
  • Completed Professor Elm's errand
  • Caught my first HM slave, Sentret
  • Completed the Sprout Tower
  • Trained Gible and Trapinch to levels 11 and 12, respectively
  • Defeated Falkner
  • Received the Pokémon egg from Professor Elm's assistant
  • Received HM 06 (Rock Smash)

Falkner was kind of a pain to beat since Trapinch and Gible wouldn't listen to me, but in the end Gible finished him. I'm just starting Route 32, however, I will soon be in Azalea Town and on to my second badge.

My current team:

Trapinch
Level: 12
Moveset: Bite | Faint Attack | Sand-Attack

Gible
Level: 13
Moveset: Dragon Rage | Outrage | Tackle | Sandstorm

Storm Eater you might want to post more details about your adventure to share with everyone.. Like what pokemon you're using etc.

And blaQk, I think you're supposed to hatch the egg yourself so that the OT would be you, and thus the pokemon wouldn't disobey you/gain bonus xp. But how the hell did you get 2 shinies!??!

Well the OT is me, same name, different ID, lol. And I like the disobeying thing actually, gives me limits. Like I said, I bred them to be shiny. ;D *Looks at signature* I have a lot, actually.

After beating Falkner and leaving Violet City, I headed for Azalea Town.

Quest information:
  • Completed the Slowpoke Well
  • Trained my Gible and Trapinch
  • Beat Bugsy

Bugsy wasn't hard at all. I kept Gible and Trapinch below or at level 20 so they'd obey, so I didn't have any problems. Oh, and Dragon Rage is amazing this early in the game, lol.

Now that I have the Hive badge, I set my sights on Goldenrod City and my third badge.

Quest information:
  • Battle Silver on my way out of Azalea Town
  • My Togepi egg hatches and I cry because it has a Timid nature QQ
  • Caught the two Farfetch'd and received HM 01 (Cut) and made my slave work
  • Proceeded on into Goldenrod City while training Gible and Trapinch along the way
  • Picked up my Coin Case, Fashion Case, Radio Card and Bike
  • Beat Whitney (Her Miltank is rediculous)
  • Gible evolves
  • Got my Squirtbottle
  • Battle and defeat Sudowoodo
  • Have some fun tag-teaming some twins and hotties
  • Make my way into Ecruteak City

Gible evolving into Gabite was nice, but not as nice as it will be to have Trapinch evolve. He is seriously lacking some speed do to being a Trapinch (I think he's still below 20 and he has a Jolly nature and 31 speed IVs). :/ Oh well, he doesn't like much more. Now that I'm in Ecruteak City, I've hit a stall point in my game. Since I bought Soul Silver to get the good nature legendary Pokémon, I'm going to be soft-resetting until I get either a Timid Entei or Raikou (I traded over some Master Balls). I'm hoping on an Entei because I caught a Modest Raikou (which isn't horrible) in Heart Gold. It shouldn't take too long though, I hope. :S After I catch one of the nature I want, I'm going after Morty and my fourth badge, and maybe I'll get a Vibrava along the way. ;)

My current team:

[PokeCommunity.com] Monotype Challenge (Ver. 2.0)

Trapinch
Level: 29
Moveset: Bite | Faint Attack | Sand Tomb | Sand-Attack

Gabite
Level: 25
Moveset: Dragon Rage | Outrage | Take Down | Sandstorm

I'll get an Extreme Speed Dratini later. Also, you might wanna make a note about leaving HM slaves outta your party when you battle in gyms. My level 4 Sentret just beat Morty's Gengar, and no, I'm not joking.

And with that we complete about 60% of non-legend dragons, lol, too little :(

When I thought about playing a Dragon challenge, I was thinking about Extremespeed but I realised I probably won't keep the move anyway.

And I agree with that point, my Farfetch'd went out to tank against Lance's Dragonite's Outrage accidentally, which made the Dragonite confused and hit itself to death.
But it's hard to enforce anyway. And makes the game a little less challenging :)

So there's a way to enforce shiny by IV passing?

Mostly luck on breeding the parents. I have to bred for shiny pokes, hoping they pass on their good IVs. I get lucky every-now-and-then.

Alright, time for an update:
  • After some consideration, I figured I should challenge Morty
  • I run to the Ecruteak Gym, and this guy laughs "hohoho" and pushes me out
  • I walk to the Burned Tower like the man said, and i go inside
  • I see two men, one in white and one in purple (oo purple mah color ^-^)
  • I also see three big beasts sitting in the basement.
  • I walk to see the beasts, and this guy walks infront of me and introduces himself as "Esuine" and said hes been chasing Suicune for ten years (man im only 12)
  • After his introduction he walks back to his spot, and then i walk towards the ladder and none other than Soul walks up to me
  • He says that im trying to catch the legendary pokemon to make myself look stronger (which i wasnt >.>) and that it wont help, legendary pokemon only go with people who "vow" to be the strongest, like himself. wait didnt i beat you twice?
  • Well we battle, and i thrash him, Skelenoir takes out Gastly (who was two levels higher than Skelenoir, Payback ftw ;p)
  • The rest of the team fell to Alptraum
  • After beating him, he says he isnt fighting anyone else thats weak, its too much of a hassle....wait didnt i beat you????
  • Oh well he stomps off, and i climb down the ladder
  • The Legendary beasts see me and run off, each bouncing out of the room after howling.
  • The blue one stops in front of me, and howls, staring me down. Then runs off just as Esuine climbs down the ladder.
  • Dammit Esuine, I was just about to fight it!
  • Esuine starts rambeling about Suicune again, apparently the blue beast was Suicune, and it seemed to notice my presence, and wanted to challenge me. Esuine says theres more to me than meets the eye (Transformers hahahah)
  • After this whole ordeal, i leave the Burned Tower, and then i head to Ecruteak Gym
  • The "hohoho" guy is gone, and im allowed to enter the gym
  • Damn this place is easy, Skelenoir walks through all the mediums. Payback does wonders till it runs out, then i use Astonish. Skelenoir gains a few levels
  • I finally reach Morty, the leader who was the guy in purple at the Burned Tower
  • The Battle Begins...
  • -Skelenoir uses Payback on the Gastly, almost one-shotting it, then the Gastly kills itself with Curse
  • --Skelenoir is downed by Haunter#1
  • ---Voodoo comes out and downs Haunter#1 with Shadow Sneak
  • ----Gengar comes out, and i use Shadow Sneak, almost knocking it out, its Sitrus Berry activates, and it Shadowballs my Voodoo to death
  • -----Alptraum comes out and uses Shadow Punch, downing his Gengar
  • ------Haunter #2 comes out, and gets oneshotted with Sucker Punch. Yay for paper thin defenses
  • WooT, I got my fourth badge, the Fog Badge!~
  • After leaving the Gym, i decide that my team needs some serious grinding done to them, especially Skelenoir, only at level 19.. and still having problems downing things 2 levels lower than itself.
  • So i grind my *** off all night (last night)
  • After grinding for a few hours, i finish and Skelenoir evolves into Dusklops. Then i give it the Reaper cloth (that came with it from the pokewalker) and i trade it to my friend in Sinnoh, and he trades it back and it has evolved into Dusknoir! =3
  • After this, i walk through Route 38, all the trainers already beating while grinding
  • I enter Route 39, and a guy named Baoba steps infront of me, man people like doing this...
  • We talk about his new safari zone and he gives me his number saying this meeting is more than coincidence, and then runs off.. o-kay
  • I finish off Route 39 and head to Olivine City, and thats where i am currently

HM Slaves:
Spoiler:

The HM slave thing is up to you. I trust people will do the right thing and not utilize their HM slaves. I don't care if you used it to revive one of your pokemon because frankly I've done that before when I only had Seel. However, I do mind when you start attacking and trying to win a battle with it.

I'll let this one slide though so whatevs. I'm usually pretty lenient but I've been seeing lots of rule-breaking so I'm going to have to start being a little stricter. (I'm not necessarily referring to anyone in particular so relax =)
