Steel ftw. After so many pokemon playthroughs, I realised that Steel is my favourite type.. :D The plethora of resistances, especially Psychic, makes it tank very well. I played Fire Red these few days and my underleveled Steelix managed to take out Agatha (2ndround) on its own. :D Gengar Psychic doing 40 damage is pure awesome.

Oh, I definitley agree! After this playthrough an how much fun it's been, I can safely say Steel is up there as one of my favorite types. :)

Doooh... I really want to!..... I'm actually going to start a solo challenge on Pt though for now I suppose... I've never done these challenges before, but I think I might be starting with a harder one first... I really wanted to do the monotype with Dark when I get around to it

Ooh, monotype challenges I find are much harder than Solo Runs, actually! Because usually you get very overleveled with Solo runs, but with monotype you don't.

I also understand your pain. xD I always want to do so many challenges, I find it really hard to choose which one. xD Dark would deffo be a fun to monotype though!

Sorry, but I wont be able to play for a while. However, I would appreciate it if you left my name on the list, as I am by no means dropping from this challenge, just postponing it.

Blaine managed to KO my Haunter with his Rapidash! Too bad Fire Blitz hits with recoil, hehe! Dusclops evolved but.. I see no point in raising it. I'll give EXP.Share to Mismagius,I'll need Power Gem (4x inc vs Charizard).
I hate luck of computer. 100% acc with 10% acc move is cool.

Well I need to take down Charizard and Snorlax only,so I need two overleveled pokemon, that's all. Well always when I tried to hit with some Rock-type move (when I was doing rock-monotype) I could miss three times in a row. Getting three Stone Edges in a row is not cool.
10% is just my lack of luck. Blue lies and cries, baby!

heheh I understand. I have missed Tackle 5 times in a row. That's like, 0.00003125%?

But Headbutt flinch on Dunsparce seems like 100% to me. XD

^^^reminds me of that time i missed peck 6 times in a row. yet my Groudon in emerald used a PP uped fissure 6 times in a row defeating the champion.0_o

welp, an update:
-i'm so lucky. caught a Meowth(named Catman) and a Snubbull (named Jane(idk shut up))
-why dont these gym leaders ever just stay in their damn gyms?
-a burned down tower. What a great tourist attraction!
-Rival Battle! he starts with gastly. Mega punch. figure it out. next was bayleef. then zubat. magnemite was a problem though. but 6 sand-attacks and 6 tickles later, Pam OHKO'ed it (sort of) with fury swipes.
-not the japanese! you racist piece of...
--obtained HM03, surf--
-taught that to Atila. yyyyyyyeeeeeep.
-that's when i caught the new recruits. went training.
--got HM04 strength--
-beat people in a couple of routes. took on the first few lighthouse trainers, too.
-took out the gym trainers. easy.
-morty time! gastly:easy. lv.21 haunter:easy. Gengar:took longer, but atila got 'im. other haunter:easy.
--got TM30 shadow Ball--
-currently going to olivine (again)

Hey, would it be possible to restart the whole thing and use a different monotype? I've got the urge to use a Jumpluff. :)

EDIT: Also quick question, are you allowed to use pre-volutions that differ from your chosen type. For example, if you're doing Flying Mono-type, are you allowed to use a Scizor, being as Scyther is part flying?

If I recall correctly You can use HM slaves just to revive? If so,I defeated Red. Thanks to confusion hax (replaced Dream Eater on Haunter with Swagger :P) Killed Charizard and Snorlax thanks to it,poison and Sludge Bomb. Got Bulbasaur and Torchic. I'll update everything later, see ya!

Of course not...Scizor isn't a flying type...you NEED your team to be flying types.......

Ahh screw that idea. I'll start with Water, for one reason...smexy Kabutops :) And because I never started in the first place xD I wanted a balanced team...well not anymore. :)

Anyhoo's, the log.
Introduction-The Road of Dreams!

-Huh what? This hour? Woken up? I do possess the rare ability of Insomnia though...
-Professor Oak!!! He has a Marill!
-Hold on, let me check...yes, I'm a boy.
-Well, I'm Joseph. Nice to meet you!
-Message from Lyra! 'I love POKéMON!'. Well so do I, but you don't see me proclaiming my love, do you?
-Mum gives me a bag! Sweet! Mum gives me my Trainer Card! I look goood! I can save what I do! Awesome! And...something else. Huh? Oh sweet I can customize...whatever I can customize!
-Geez, what is with everyone and Marill today! First Oak, now freakin' Lyra!
-Who is that guy outside...and how rude!
-Professor Elm! I would have given him some 'respect' but he's not 'hip' enough for it. Anyhoo, he gets a mail from a Mr. Pokemon and let's me choose a rare Pokémon! Sweet!
-As much as I want to choose a Totodile for it's sheer awesomeness, I want to have the advantage when catching my first water Pokemon. So Chikorita! I choose you!
-After getting a female Chikorita and naming it Evora, Elm sends me off. This random dude stops me but gives me 5 Potions! Not bad dude...not bad. I walk out to see Lyra, who calls Evora cute. God knows what she would have done if I picked Totodile. I talk to Mum to let her know where I'm going. She gives me my Pokégear and off I go! Of course she saves my money. Gotta have a reserve right?

Current Team:

Chikorita (F)
Level 5
Tackle

Sorry for corny title and all, but hey, a guy can try :)

Will do more thorough logs as the game progresses

Second Update

  • Entered Union Cave
  • Trained level 7 Machop to 14 en route to Azalea.
  • Went into town to heal, met Kurt who makes pokeballs who was on his way to the slowpoke well, followed him down.
  • Climbed down a ladder met an injured Kurt at the base of the well.
Kurt, whom I had just met, told me to attack some gangster people named "Team Rocket".
  • The first of these "Team Rocket" goons was a man I had seen standing at the top of the well. Apparently, an old man rushing at him had startled him so much that he stumbled back into the well.
  • This guy had 2 rattatta. Cake. Machop leveled to 15.
  • The next Rocket member was a woman, her pokemon were easy for Poliwag and Machop to take out.
  • The last thug had a rattatta and 2 zubats, Machop had an easyish time with them and leveled to 16!
  • Finally, Proton. I took out both of his pokemon with my poliwag, and Poliwag grew to 14! Kurt, who had apparently gotten better from falling down a deep well, rushed in to congratulated me.
  • Back in town, I decided to take down the gym. Machop fought his way to level 17 but was poisoned by a Paras' Effect Spore, and I had to heal him at the PokeCenter.
  • Decided to pick up some potions and antidotes before moving on with the gym.
  • Bugsy's Scyther defeated me, but I got his Metapod down before that and Machop grew to level 18!
  • As I was leaving town to go train on a route, my rival snuck up on me. Defeating his Ghastly my Poliwag grew to 15, and he destroyed everything else. =/
  • The *ahem* third time I fought him my Machop leveled to 19 off his Ghastly and learned Seismic Toss, which allowed me to easily defeat his Bayleef and Zubat
  • I did the Farfetch'd thing to get cut, meanwhile finding a revive and leveling Machop to 20. Togepi also hatched.
  • The next try on Bugsy was easy, Seismic Toss really won it. Machop hit 21.
  • Taught Totodile cut, taught poliwag headbutt, and helped the kimono lady get out of the forest.
  • Trained Poliwag to 17 on some trainers on route 34, then ran into Lyra who introduced me to her grandparents.
  • Took the radio quiz, got my radio card and some crazy pink haired chick ran off into the gym.
  • Following her I entered the Goldenrod Gym to find some older girls who apparently thought I was hot stuff, I beat their pokemon to get past them getting Poliwag to 18 and Machop to 22 (replaced Focus Energy with Revenge).
  • I caught up to "Whitney" who happened to be the gym leader.
Her Clefairy defeated my Poliwag with a metronomed Dragon Rage but my Machop was able to easily defeat the Clefairy and her Miltank (and you guys think Whitney is the hardest gym leader... :P).
  • Afterward I went to the flower shop and got a squirt bottle and headed off toward Ecruteak.
  • After facing several trainers my Poliwag hit level 21 and fainted.
  • My Machop took over fighting and leveling and I was forced into 2 double battles, finally leveling him to 25, but in the process Totodile hit 18 and evolved (I didn't use him to fight).
  • Once I made it to Ecruteak I went straight to the PokeCenter where I met Bill.
  • Went out to Route 42, headbutted a couple of trees and found a level 13 Heracross! I caught without too much trouble.
  • Entered Mt Mortar so I could leave on the other end, found a level 15 Mankey in the grass nearby!
  • Went back to Ecruteak, went to Burned tower to fight my rival. I got really lucky when it was down to just my new Mankey and his Gastly that was at about 5 hp. The dumb AI used curse on itself and I won Mankey grew to 16! :P
  • Trained my Machop to 28 and evolved him, trained my Poliwag to 25 and evolved him, trained him to 26 after that, and trained my Heracross to 16.
  • Made my first attempt on Morty after listening to his story about how he's going to be visited by a magical rainbow pokemon, and failed on his last pokemon.
  • Did some research and ran back to the Pokeathlon Dome to compete.
  • After a couple of attempts I managed to get first in every event easily and quickly got 2500 points.
  • "Waited" until Wednesday and bought a Water Stone, evolving Poliwhirl to Poliwrath!
  • Went back to Ecruteak and fought Morty again. Did even worse, but leveled Poliwrath to 27.
  • Bought some potions/revives and tried again. Poliwrath won and hit 28 in the process (didn't even get touched!).
  • Heard a commotion inside the dance studio and found a Rocket grunt harassing a kimono girl. It was a very easy win. As I was leaving another old man approached me and gave me something. It happened to be HM03 surf!
  • Gave surf to Poliwrath replacing bubblebeam.
  • Left Ecruteak, taking my first surfing trip across the water on route 42. Fought a fisherman and his quilfish, which leveled Machoke to 29.
  • Bypassed Mahogany Town, heading up to Route 43 en route to the Lake of Rage, trained a bit before getting there, Poliwrath to 30.
  • Surfed to Red Gyarados Machoke defeated it and I got a Red Scale.
  • Met Lance who asked me to help him back in Mahogany, so I followed him.
  • Stopped at the pokecenter before heading into the "Gift Shop".
  • Caught Lance finishing off one of the workers there. He pushed aside something and found a secret stairway, which we went down.
  • When I had walked down the stairs, Lance was no where in sight. I walked forward accidently setting off an alarm, which caused a couple Team Rocket Grunts to come to investigate the noise, they challenged me back to back, but they sucked and I won easily.
  • The last one warned me that there were security cameras in the statues, but I decided I wanted to take down the Team Rocket members there, so I walked into every one of the statues for extra training.
  • After the second set of battles I figured out that they were all the same "event", which is sad programming, oh well.
  • Training on the Rocket guards and a Rocket scientist got my Machoke to 30 Heracross to 19 and Mankey to 17. I found a stairwell that led downstairs and saw Lance who healed my pokemon (I had just gone up to heal my pokemon too, why did I forget this part).
  • A couple more guards were scattered through the lower area and I trained on those. No levels, but I found another stairwell that I met Lance at the bottom of.
  • That floor yielded both passwords that I needed and leveled my Machoke to 31 and Hercross to 20. :)
  • The next floor only had one guy in it, but the next floor after that had the boss' room in it. Petrel, who pretended to be Giovanni, was in there alone and was extremely easy to defeat and earned Hercross level 21.
  • The door was opened, and I was jumped by two rocket members, one of them was named Ariana and was a Rocket boss. Luckily for me, Lance showed up and helped me defeat them. Unfortunately to turn the maching off we had to defeat some innocent electrode. =/
  • Fortunately that meant experience, Heracross grew to level 22 and Machoke grew to 32. Afterward Lance gave me HM05 Whirlpool.
  • All there was left to do in Mahogany was to take down the gym. The first two gym trainers were easy and leveled Heracross to 23.
  • The next room's trainers posed a little more of a problem, but I muscled through them.
  • Next came Pryce, whom I lost to the first try because I accidently started the battle hurt with no pp in my best fight moves on machoke and heracross. The second time was a very easy win though earning machoke level 33.

Reaching for the Zeyphr!

I'm on the highway to hell! Suddenly though, Elm stops me, calling me and then walking over to where I am to exchange numbers. Seriously? I'm what, 10?

Anyway, NOW I'm on the highway to hell, or rather, Route 29. I hear Wooper's come out at night at Route 32, my first Water Pokemon, so I gotta hurry. Of course, a darn Hoothoot comes out ready to stop me. Through mutiple tackles, Evora will beast that thing.

I arrived at Cherrygrove, where this man takes me on an unofficial tour, explaining each building. One thing that particulary catches my eye is the big, blue sea. Maybe I can catch some good pokemon in there. He ends the tour and gives me the SHOES HE'S JUST BEEN WEARING?!?!

Nah, just joshing. He gives me fresh Running shoes. Awesome!

I then leave to Mr. Pokemon's house and it turns out I was being stalked by the very same guy. What is it with old people? Anyway, he gave me a map which is helpful? Hmm.

On my way to Mr Pokemon's house is a Rattata, which Evora mercilessly kills. Consequently, she levels up and learns Razor Leaf. Something useful! Another Hoothoot comes and I own that too with many Tackles. I pick up a potion and see this nice house. I walk past this house and the guy starts yelling because I left him alone? People make no sense! He gives me an Apricorn Box and I'm like, come on. Seriously?

I do notice the most epic of battles which stops me getting to Violet City, which is just as well as I need to go the other way. Yet another Hoothoot. Great. Die. Done? Good. Level 7! Awesome! Another Hoothoot. I'm sure you're getting tired of this...it got merked. I pick up a nearby Antidote, all is well.

Continuing, I get a Pnk Apricorn and see Mr. Pokemon for the first time, a young man with a, I kid you not, fedora. He's cool. No sarcasm there. Whose the other guy though...

After getting this Egg, the other guy reveals himself to be Professor Oak, who gives me my very own Pokedex! Also, he gets my number...sigh.

After Oak leaves, followed by me I get a call from Elm saying something bad has happened! I run back, eager to help but...a red haired boy stops me. The same guy who was lurking! Man, this guy is a jerk. We battle, his advantageous Cyndaquil vs Evora and eventually I win through...skill. He taunts and mocks me, petty insults for when I have won. He runs off, though I know who that boy is...

At this point I'm done trying to kill Hoothoot's now I run. After I obtain a Grn Apricorn I rune back to New bark. Back at the lab it appears that one of Elm's pokemon has been stolen! Who could have...wait...was it?

For a moment I'm blamed, however Lyra comes to my rescue.
I remember that kid! He was called Zero!

After all is cleared up, Elm is startled at my new bling. Or in professor terms, Pokedex. I give him the Egg and he informs me of the Gym challenge. Intriguing.

With that done, I tell my mum I'll be off on a big journey. She offers to save money and I say yeah sure. Can't hurt right?

Just outside New Bark Lyra shows me how to catch a pokemon, failing the first time, badly. However she captures a blinking Rattata. She does give me 5 poke balls, so, meh. Cool.

I'm running, really running to get that Wooper, running from wild Hoothoot's and battling trainers to get there. I beat Joey's Rattata, Mikey's Pidgey and Rattata, Don's two Caterpies and Wade's three Caterpies and Weedle. WDe and Joey give me their numbers. Normal people at last! I also get a potion, a pokeball and a Blk Apricorn. Evora grows to level 10, so cool.

Lyra comes round to exclaim her stalkingness, but she does give me a Vs. Recorder, which is good for something I guess.

Upon entering Violet City my mind was blown at it's beauty. However, no time to waste, must get a Wooper! I heal up Evora, then set about Wooper.

After a few Ekans, Zubat and some Mareep, I finally caught one! With the power to absorb water too. Epic win!

I rest here tonight, intent on training Mudskipper up for the upcoming gym battle...

Am I too late to join up?

If not count me in, though undecided on an actual type...

EDIT: I decided on Poison

Name: Vicousvirus
Type: Poison
Version: Soul Silver

Team: Gengar without a doubt. Nidoking and Qwilfish are pretty certain too. I may get a Roserade or Venusaur, and either Toxicroak, Drapion, Crobat or Weezing. Heck, maybe even an Arbok.

Where art thou poisonous Pokemon?

-Begun adventure
-Noted to Oak I was a boy
-Named myself Venom
-Woke up in my house

Yawn...where am I? My house! Ok. What's on my computer? A message
from Lyra! She loves Pokemon! Ok.

What's this? My bag, trainer card, save feature and options? Cool.

I walk out where I'm vicously attacked by a Marill. I swear, everyone has Marill. Oak had one in my dream. Eh, so be it.

There is a guy who is looking inside the lab. Suspicous much? Anyway I go in and talk to Professor Elm who requests I meet a 'Mr. Pokemon'. Naturally I decline, ending my adventure there and then.

However, I reconsidered when Elm threw in a FREE pokemon in the deal.
So I picked this mean crocodile thing and gave it a new name. Whilst walking out I get 5 potions off some guy. Awesome.

Outside, Lyra is waiting, calling my pet cute. Seriously...Anyway, I tell my mum I'm off on an extended period of time. She calls my pokemon cute. It's a f***ing alligator. They ain't cute. She gives me my pokegear which makes up for it I suppose...after being told how to use the phone...jesus.

FINALLY, I leave for Route 29. Well, would have been, except Elm requests that we exchange numbers. After slaying some Pidgey and Sentret I arrive in Cherrygrove Cify, and was given a tour by an old man on everywhere, just before getting some Running shoes. Well now I can run? Great.

Whilst leaving to Route 30 the very same guy comes up to give me map of Johto. Ok, thanks, bye now! Moving along, I enter a house and is it? No! A randomers house, who just so happens to give me an Apricorn box. One more thing to have around. This day is going well!

Picking the nearby Apricorn and potion I make my way to Mr. Pokemons house, ignoring an 'epic battle'.  I get an antidote, which is pointless as I've decided on a Poison themed team. I kill more Pidgey's and Totodile is now level 7. Good enough to defend when trying to catch pokemon. He alo learns Water Gun. Cool.

I get a Pnk Apricorn and enter a house nearby.

Mr Pokemon! This is it! I get a swanky egg to go with everything else I have. Sweet. This old guy, named Oak, starts yapping about me and Totodile. But he does give me a pokedex! And then gets my number.

Outside I'm ordered to come back to New Bark by Elm, who is in shock. Wtf happened then? I rush back to Route 29. And I stop. Who is that person?

He snides my choice of pomemon and then sends out a Chikorita. Seriously. Are you kidding?

Through sheer strength Totodile gets through and beasts that Chikorita, hitting it critically. The guy storms off, shoving me out the way. I do get his name, Zero. Yeah, zero manners. He complains over his name being revealed.

I snag an Apricorn and another potion and kill some more Sentrets to get Totodile to level 8. He learns the useless Rage though.

At the lab I am accused of theft by the police. I'm just about to kill Elm when Lyra comes to my rescue. After being interviewed the police walk out. Elm comments on the Mystery Egg and is startled by my earning of a pokedex. Gee, thanks. He informs me of the Gym challenge which sounds intriguing to say the least. I have decided, I will become the Pokemon Champion. And I will do it with the MIGHT OF POISON POKEMON!

End Log

All right, since it's a bit later where I am, I'm going to do an update.

Over the Rainbow!

After being almost framed for theft, (which I did not do, I'm not that evil), I go to my mum to tell her I won't ever be seeing her ever again. She offers to save my money and I say, yeah sure. Gotta be safe right?

Off on my epic journey of epicness, I leave to Route 29 and after that, Violet City. Lyra is there with her Marill again! She shows me how to catch a pokemon and assumes I couldn't see what was going on. I clearly could. Anyway I witness her taking forevre to catch a stupid Rattata, mentally laughing at her weak Marill. She does give me 5 pokeballs. I take back my laughing. Nah who am I kidding?

Yet more Sentret and Pidgey though it's becoming close to night which means that both Zubat and Gastly come out. Not sure if I want a Crobat, but I really want a Gengar. Termigator, the Totodile grows to level 9 and continues to slaughter all those who stands in his way.

Healing up at Cherrygrove, I press onwards towards Violet City, beating many trainers on the way, defeating Joey and Mikey, . Pah, those Ratatta, Pidgey and puny bugs were no match for Termigator. Who as it happened, terminated every single one of their pokemon. I got Termigator to level 10 too. When will I get my Gastly? I get Joey's number, who wishes to call me when his Ratatta is a bit better.

Route 31 now and close to Violet city. Speaking of close, Termigator is close to fainting. LIVE I SAY, LIVE! Ooh a potion. I don't bother using it. I have no love for a pokemon that lacks the corruption of venom inside their bloodstream. pick up a Blk Apricorn and own Wade and his many bugs in the process. Termigator grows to level 11 too. Great, just f-ing great. I get his number and he promises to give me stuff that he finds. Yeah, you better, I beasted your lil a**. Picking up a nearby pokeball I travel to Violet city. A Bellsprout appears but I run away. All of a sudden Joey calls me! Wtf dude? I fought you five seconds ago! I ignore and travel to Violet City.

Almost there, Lyra stops me, wondering how I got past her. Well, to be honest, I don't go playing about with pokemon Lyra, I just get the job done, no questions asked. She gives me a Vs. Recorder, which will be handy in taking on fellow trainers. She claims she won't let me pass her again, but I beg to differ. I take a quick nap as I wait for the sun to set...

End Log

Team:

Termigator the Docile Totodile

Level 11

-Scratch
-Leer
-Water Gun
-Rage

Still a HM Slave, only growing levels due to wanting to get some defence when catching that Gastly, not to mention my only pokemon. Hmm. I guess I could have picked up that Bellsprout. Too late now.
