Moves that need re-typing

Another member's suggestion on my learnset thread got me thinking of this related topic: Are there any particular moves that belong to the wrong type, in your opinion? Here are some of my suggestions, to get the proverbial ball rolling.

    • Bite and Crunch should revert to Normal type, where they were originally. More Pokémon are based on natural animals and plants, than on humans or similar beings; Stomping and Scratching a human opponent in a fight would also be considered unfair, but those animal-like moves aren't classified as Dark.
    • Twister should be moved to Flying, since it closely resembles other wind-based moves like Gust and Whirlwind. (Even the Japanese B-movies have giant moths flapping their wings to cause storms; those monsters don't resemble or behave like dragons.)
    • The suggestion that inspired this thread: Aura Sphere should be moved to Psychic, since its name implies drawing on spiritual energy. (The stories about Lucario in the second Pokémon movie even gave me the mistaken impression that Aura Sphere was a Psychic move... *blush*)
Feel free to make your own suggestions, as long as they involve existing moves and types from the main games. I plan to use the best changes in a game project of my own. Thank you again!

I think Bite and Crunch fit the dark type really well, they're 'dirty' moves. Stomp and Scratch don't strike me as 'evil' moves, like Sucker Punch, Bite, etc... That's just my opinion though.

Twister makes sense to be flying type, Hurricane is flying type as well, so it's kinda strange.

I like to think Aura Sphere as 'fighting spirit' being unleashed onto another Pokemon, sort of like Focus Blast.

Mega Punch and Kick, as well as Comet Punch should be fighting type, I wonder why they're deemed 'Normal' type? Those attacks are the only ones I can think of at the top of my head so far...

Well....you don't have to be a fighter to throw punches or kicks. If I punched someone today, I wouldn't suddenly become a boxer or if a kicked someone I wouldn't suddenly be a kick boxer.

Maybe it's like that? Maybe those moves aren't refined technical fighting moves but messy "in the moment" attacks.

Well, every Pokemon is trained to be a 'fighter' :P ... It's just my opinion though, Those attacks at first glance would give you the impression that they're fighting type moves.

Crunch was introduced as a Dark Move upon creation. Its from Gen 2. Bite was the only one to change from Normal to Dark.

Whirlwind is Normal type, not Flying. Majority of the Wind based attacks aren't flying even while Flying has the most Wind based attacks listed. The majority are mixture of Normal, Ghost, Bug, and Fire.

Aura and Psychic energy are also different as Aura is from Life Energy/Chi which is produced by Fighters (think Dragon Ball Z) Psychic energy is controlling the energy outside of your body with your mind alone. They are two separate spectrum of energy manipulation from the body.

Basically I disagree with the ones you have listed. Twister is summoned through roars of Dragons and those that are Draconic. A few of the Pokemon that can learn Twister don't have wings and there are legends of wingless dragons able to whip up storms through magic. Biting is underhanded tactics which fits in perfectly with Dark's theme of fighting dirty, and as described above Aura and Psychic energies are different so I wouldn't see the switch being possible or likely.

I do think that some attacks should get retyped...I know there are a few I have quirks with but cannot recall names at the moment.

Lick...That is 1 I have quirks with since Licking is something any creature can do. I don't see why its a Ghost attack. That is one I think should be Normal typed.

    Um.....

Disable...Disable should be Psychic since it prevents the target from using an attack. Only other attacks I can recall that do this are all Psychic (Imprison, Heal Block).

Mind Reader should have been Psychic. Both English and Japanese names make it sound Psychic in nature....

Wide Guard doesn't make sense as a Rock type....Its similar to Protect/Detect but protects from attacks that target more than one Pokemon on your side. It should have been Normal like Protect or Fighting like Detect/Quick Guard.

Drill run should have been Steel. Excadrill would still get STAB from it but when you think of a Drill you think of a metallic object that burrows through the ground.

damn that was gonna be my line. Seriously though? what 'normal' people/pokemon have the ability to read minds? Historically, it's something that psychics/shamans/magicians do which pretty much defines it as psychic...

But...the Fighting type is the "hero type" which in turn makes it a light type. Aura Sphere is a light based move...going right into that. Also a major reason we don't need a Light type, but I digress. Xander explained it better than I did anyway, haha.

Anyway! Rock Climb should be, ya know, Rock. Strength should be Rock or Fighting (I'd take either). That's all I can think of atm.

Hmmm. Aura Sphere as a Fighting-type move, an exception to the "Fighting = Physical" rule? Maybe; if Psycho Cut can be the one Physical move in its type, then it's plausible for the opposite to happen.

Strength as Fighting-type? I'm behind that one 110%; the game calls it a punch with maximum force, so the change makes perfect sense.

Rock Climb as Rock-type? Again, pure common sense: if Fly is Flying-type and Surf is Water-type, then why should a move designed to scale rock walls be anything but? :-)

P.S. I personally support the idea of a Light type, but probably won't add it to my project because there are too few existing Pokémon that fit there (and most of those would just add Light to their existing type). Unless I can find enough well-designed Fakemon, my game-to-be wiil stick with what the base game already has.
