I was wondering this since I joined, but why isn't there a sub section for movie reviews much like the gaming section? I understand the number of members willing to do this would be a minority, much smaller then the gaming one I assume, but it would be nice to have one, because the discussions that could arise from one could be very intellectual if done right.
And like my title suggests, is there anyway in the future a cooking section can be discussed? I'm sure loads of us love cooking as a hobby, and maybe a few more professionally, and it could be a blast to have us share recipes, discuss our tastes, and maybe do a few events? Like I dunno, skype based cook-offs, or something. Just throwing ideas around to make a great forum even better, thanks for the read!

Culture and Media is the amalgamation of books, TV shows, movies and more - there are some review threads, and you're able to create threads to discuss films there. I'm guessing you're referring to the 'Let's play/reviews' part of VG - they seem quite quiet to me, but video games are likely to stir more discussion on a Pokémon forum - especially when you think about playthroughs of pokémon ROM hacks founded here and on other fansites.

As to a cooking subsection... I doubt there would be the activity there to sustain it. However, cooking/recipe orientated threads can (and have, in the past) fit quite easily into the Chit Chat Café and Fan Clubs & Groups.

I understand what culture and media is all about, but I'm just trying to figure out why there isn't an equivalent of the video game reviews when it makes sense. As for the chit chat cafe suggestion, sure that could work. But would it really be that dead a section?

Going back to summer there have only been a few threads about cooking, and they didn't last particularly long.

I guess one problem with a cooking subforum is that it can mostly be summed up by a few threads:
    -post your recipes
    -what is your favourite meal/ingredient
-post pictures of your homecooked meals

Perhaps, rather than a subforum, you'd be interesting in starting up your own club :).

Ah, if there's thread history to back you up, I guess that sounds fair enough. So yeah, club sounds like the best I can do to share my love of cooking, thanks for the feedback.

First off I love the cooking forum idea, but I'm not certain how well it'd work in contrast to other hobbies that could have their own forum instead. How about a pets forum or a sports forum - why choose cooking instead? Therefore I'd suggest something slightly more drastic.

Fan Clubs & Groups basically consists of either entertainment clubs, video game clubs, or hobby/interest clubs, so what if there was to be a little revamp here for put more of a focus on hobbies/interests? Move the video game clubs to Video Gaming (perhaps get rid of Online Gaming too and merge those threads with the game-specific clubs but that's a discussion for another day), move the TV/anime/music clubs to General Entertainment (or w/e the new name is), then rename Fan Clubs & Groups to something like 'Hobbies & Interests' to put a much bigger focus on making threads about cooking, lifestyle, spots, hobbies, etc. I've never particularly understood the need for entertainment or video game clubs in Other Clubs when there's no reason they couldn't just be made with the same format in their relevant sections to gain a lot more interest from the people who'll then be seeing them, and then you'd also have a much bigger focus on the hobbies & interests threads that people seem to suggest adding a lot.

As for what threads could be made here, really it'd be anything that has updatable progress to report whilst being discussed as a group. So things like learning new recipes/baking/etc, sports scores/predictions, new pets/pet problems/things pets have been doing, new languages learned/new applications of languages, gay rights/coming out stories/general LGBT discussions, song projects being worked on/posting new songs/looking for collaborations, exciting new strands of wool/that cute sweater you knitted for your grandma, etc/etc/etc you get the idea, the list is endless. Essentially it's a uniting of all the various smaller forums that have been requested over the past few years to make one central 'hub' for all hobbies and interests.

What do people think about this idea? It's not necessarily removing Fan Clubs & Groups, just re-purposing it to something more focussed and giving Video Games/General Entertainment back their relevant discussions whilst giving those clubs a more catered audience.

You know, that does sound like a pretty good idea, and much more interesting for the whole board then what I suggested. I would really like to share my interests beyond cooking, and what you suggested works towards that.
