As far as I know Peter Jackson was not slated to direct the Halo movie, but rather he would be working with his special effects wizards at WETA on film's special effects.
Metroid could not be a space opera like Star Wars. What made the original trilogy so good were the characters. And Metroid focuses mostly on Samus' solo explorations.
Straying from the game's true nature generally leads to failure (see Super Mario Bros).
I want a Zelda movie. I've been wanting one for a while and thinking about it as well. Just for fun I started writing my own scripts and shall revisit that since I've come up with some new ideas. Basically, at the moment it consists of a series of four films - all of them are based on a specific game from the series with elements from other games and the manga brought in to flesh out and connect the stories.
Ocarina of Time would be first, followed by Majora's Mask acting more of an art piece and conclusion to Link character introduced in the first film. Majora's Mask would be true to the official artwork of the game and feature a Tim Burton-esque look. The next film would be an original work, acting as a combination of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. A split timeline would be too complicated for film, hence the combination of stories. And it would all end with A Link to the Past. All computer animated using motion capture techniques. An overlying theme within all the films would be friendship and longing.
Won't happen, but I can dream. XD
The problem with most game films is that they're made with the dollar symbol in mind. Rarely made by a fan of the game who would respect the material and do the game justice by bringing it to the silver screen. They tend to become special effect filled disasters without a heart.
