Moderators, if this thread allready exists, it may be closed. =)

    Anyways,
I just finished watching the 10th Pokemon Movie (Rise of Darkrai/Dialga vs Palkia vs Darkrai).
The Architect of the Space and Time-tower, as well as the garden, is called Gaudy (in my subs), but I'm pretty sure that it's a direct refference to the Spanish Architect Antoni Gaudi.

I also think that the Tower of Space and Time has quite some resemblances to the church Sagrada Familia

And it's not just the towers which look a little alike.
The Sagrada Familia is meant to look like a giant forest of stone. The pillars have the shape of treetrunks and where they reach the roof, they have branches and leaves of stone.

It looks a little like it. =/

Also, the garden in the tenth Pokemon movie, might be based on 'Park Güell'

Am I the only one who thinks that the 10th Movie takes place in an 'altered' Barcelona?

Also, I heard in an interview/documentary that the city in the 7th movie (Destiny Deoxys) was based on the city of Vancouver.
So, are there more movies that take place in 'altered' cities of 'our world'?

Yes, it was based on Barcelona. The writers travel all over the world for inspirations for the cities in the movies. Yes, LaRousse is also based on Vancover (minus the Battle Tower and the robots and mechanized everything). Alto Mare from Movie 5 is based on Venice (quite blatantly). They even did this in the TV Series too. Neon City from The song of Jigglypuff is based on Las Vegas, Porta Vista is based on Porta Vallarta, heck Sootopolis is based on Santorrini, Greece.

Well, the inspiration for these cities must come from somewhere, correct? I think it would be rather difficult to develop so many cities and towns without the aide of some example. I mean, how many cities have been created in the Anime all together? I don't think I quite have the patience to go back and count them all!

Many animators travel to certain areas in order to gain some inspiration for the movie's setting. This probably helps them create a better feeling of realism in their work.

However, I have to admit that I did not see the similarities to Barcelona in the tenth movie.
That sure was a very nice find, Mudkipblader!

I remember hearing that the creators actually spent time in Barcelona to get the feel of a beautiful European city and that is what that city is based upon.

I completely forgot about the 5th movie. ^^; But it's indeed obvious that it took place in an altered Venice. Even the name (Altomare) is in Italian (High Sea).

As for other proof that the 10th movie takes place in 'Spain':
Alamos (name of the town) = spanish for Poplars
Oraciòn (name of the song) = spanish for prayer (but that was said in the movie, no?)
Tonio's (the descendant of Gaudy) name comes from the firts name of Antonio Gaudi. (<-this one comes from Bulpedia. It's so obvious, and I didn't notice it. >_>)
