uggghhh...I love black/blue so much. I want to play it so bad. :|

    -10- Creatures

    -4- Gatekeeper of Malakir
    -4- Abyssal Persecutor
    -2- Sphinx of Jwar Isle

    -26- Other Spells

    -4- Sign in Blood
    -4- Deprive
    -4- Mana Leak
    -2- Sorin Markov
    -3- Doom Blade
    -2- Consuming Vapors
    -3- Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    -4- Spreading Seas

    -24- Lands

    -2- Jwar Isle Refuge
    -4- Drowned Catacomb
    -4- Creeping Tar Pit
    -6- Island
    -8- Swamp

    -15- Sideboard

    -2- Duress
    -2- Vampire Hexmage
    -3- Malakir Bloodwitch
    -2- Consume the Meek
    -2- Flashfreeze
    -2- Pithing Needle
    -2- Leyline of the Void

So I'm trying to make this 75 as tight as possible for tomorrow's FNM. I might also want to pursue this deck instead of Grixis Control, simply because Leyline of Sanctity = :[ for DonRoyale.

Grave Titan will more than likely be a 2-of, replacing whatever I feel is the weakest spell.

Let me know what you think! =)

Typically you will want 26 lands and 4 fetches for control to be able to play well. Honestly it's personal preference, though I find that 26 with 4 fetches equates to about 24 lands anyway, but you get a much more consistent early-game land distribution.

    Abyssal is just... weird in UB control (you could maindeck Malakir Bloodwitch instead in 2s; it's awesome against Baneslayer and 5 for a 4/4 flier isn't that bad either). I don't see All is Dust or Eldrazi Temples to play them either, and All is Dust is YOUR Day of Judgment, because you don't play White. D;

Deprive AND Mana Leak seems excessive (8 counters? No one plays 8 counters! o_o; ). I would probably actually play 3 Mind Spring over 4 Sign in Blood as you have access to Blue and you have no reason to use a weaker draw spell such as Sign, and use the last slot to play only a singleton of Sphinx of Jwar Isle, as the only thing it actually does well is kill Jund. Play 2 Lost Truths if you want any more than 1 Sphinx maindeck because of its massive card advantage and card economy.

I'd side some Mind Shatters in and take the Bloodwitches out of the side and into the main, and maybe even play some more X spells and a few Chalices.

Mana Leak in Standard means that tapout-type control is just in general a bad idea to be playing unless you're in a mirror. You'll Mind Spring for 6, get Leaked, and then you're just screwed.

I hardly ever have land problems with the deck.

I have 9 outs to Persecutor (4 Gatekeeper, Jace and Vapors). It's easily the "you do not attack me or I will mess you up good" card of the deck, and it's honestly a solid finisher. I also have multiple ways to deal with Baneslayer, should she be a problem. (I usually just hold my Doom Blades, anyway)

Counters are coming back in a big way. Leak snags a lot of high-cost threats that plague the metagame (like most 'Walkers, All Is Dust, etc.), and Deprive is a surprisingly potent way to fight Spreading Seas.

Sign in Blood's honestly the weakest card of the deck. I'm considering dropping at least 2, if not all 4, for 2 Countersquall and/or 2 fetches.

Honestly, I'm beginning to really hate white. I played a similar matchup against permission-based UW, and whereas he could counter what needed to be countered and then competently deal with any resolved threat, I...couldn't, really.
Maybe he used his Jaces better in this regard...I always fatesealed, I don't Brainstorm often. :S

Always Brainstorm with your Jace. <3

Yeah, I realize counters are coming back now. Like, 4 Deprive 4 Mana Leak-style counters. (Though I'm not sure if Mono-U control is good yet...) Spreading Seas is now only a mediocre cantrip after Alara rotates out.

Not really; the ability to shut off manlands is relevant, and there are still plenty of three-color decks going around.

And I'm new to using Jace, lmao XD

Yes, but with Blue being so strong, Deprive is commonly played, and well Deprive vs Spreading Seas is no battle...

Not as good as before, but still decent.

    And I hope PWs have not become the clunky four-mana sorceries they were during the era of Cryptic Commands. D;
