I'm still looking for in-depth suggestions on Dragonite and Breloom.
Spoiler:
I.) TEAM BUILDING – GEN V OU : "This Team Has No Name As Of Yet" ..any ideas?
A.) The First Steps
1.) The seed of this team had humble beginnings. Starting life as an underdeveloped and naïve collection of wayward Pokemon.
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/142.gif)
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)
a.) Aerodactyl, ---> Heatran,
i.) With the Focus Sash and the Speed, I was very happy with Aerodactyl. Plus, I didn't take any Sandstorm damage from Tyranitar / Hippowdon Leads.
ii.) I wanted a suicide-lead in the traditional sense and Aerodactyl did it's job well. However, it opened me up to too many weaknesses to ice and I was dead set on keeping Dragonite. Enter Heatran.
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/488.gif)
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/380.gif)
b.) Heatran, Cresselia, ---> Latias
i.) Cresselia was such another who seemed to be outmatched by it's Supporting counterpart. There was nothing Cresselia could do that Latias couldn't do better. With greater typing and a deeper move pool, Cresselia's time on the team was short lived.
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)

![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/149.gif)
c.) Heatran, Latias, Hygreigon, ---> Dragonite,
i.) Originally, Hygreigon offered me everything I thought I could ever need. But unfortunately, Hydreigon's movepool didn't provide what I needed in terms of a Wall Breaker. I couldn't get the range I can get with Dragonite with a Mixed Set.
ii.) Besides, I was OHKO'd by well placed Ice / Dragon attacks and Fight types alike. Not to mention poorly executed switch-ins and general Hax.
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)

![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/260.gif)
d.) Heatran, Latias, Dragonite, Weavile, ---> Swampert
i.) At first, Weavile was my expert Revenge Killer. But he was far to fragile to justify keeping. That, and he didn't offer the type coverage that I needed to check my major threats.
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/380.gif)

![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/212.gif)
e.) Heatran, Latias, Dragonite, Swampert ---> Scizor,
i.) It was now that I realized Swampert opened up another major flaw in my team. All of my Pokemon were far to slow for me to overcome. I couldn't execute strategies that I once thought I could. Even with a Bulky Water, Swampert didn't do as much for me as I thought it could.
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)

![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/286.gif)
f.) Heatran, Latias, Dragonite, Scizor, Eelektross, ---> Breloom,
i.) Eelektross is an amazing Pokemon much like his no-weakness brethren, Spiritomb. However, again, I found that most of my team take a serious hit in Speed. Although Eelektross is bulky with a great movepool, there is no denying that Breloom just offers more.
ii.) Also, after studying the pros and cons, having an immunity to statuses has played in my favor more than having no super-effective weaknesses.

g.) Heatran, Latias, Dragonite, Scizor, Breloom, Jellicent.
i.) Jellicent is the only member of my team that hasn't seen a replacement. It's been reliable, effective, and my trusted companion throughout this team building process. After much trial and error, Jellicent has become a personal favorite of mine.
ii.) This does not mean that Jellicent cannot be replaced for a better Pokemon if everyone recommends it.
Now, this is the Team's Introduction, including a brief recall of roles and an overview / analysis of my expectations and experiences.
Spoiler:
B.) In Depth Introduction
1.) Heatran,
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)
- After Aerodactyl's replacement, I wanted a strong and bulky lead to run in, set up entry hazards, and force my opponent's hand. After extensive research I soon discovered that Heatran brings a lot to the table with it's typing, well balanced stats – baring Speed, and Stealth Rock. I expect to stick around though, which is why I decided to refrain from Explosion.
2.)Latias,
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/380.gif)
- Next, I wanted to make sure that I had a Pokemon who could take hits and deal indirect damage to the opponent's team and strategy. Latias has a great movepool to accommodate non-offensive tactics plus enough Special Defense to attack passively more than once. Also, her attacks provide a solution to many of my team's threats.
3.) Dragonite,
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/149.gif)
- After considering what my other team members brought to the table, I realized that I would need something to take down serious walls. Enter Dragonite. Dragonite's movepool screams "Wallbreaker" with both Physical and Special attacks that are overkill to say the least. Couple that with its well placed stats and it is a force to be reckoned with.
4.) Scizor,
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/212.gif)
- Following this school of thought, the next logical step is to clean up the mess. Assuming that Dragonite and Latias have done their jobs, I'd need a Pokemon to come in and quickly take out whatever threats that lay in my path. After carefully considering my choices, I've decided that Scizor would get the job done. Althought not that quintessential definition of a Revenge Killer, Scizor's attributes make it a great addition to the team. Plus, with the addition of U-Turn and Roost, Scizor can stand his own on the battlefield.
5.) Breloom,
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/286.gif)
- Obviously, I needed a Pokemon to do the bulk of my sweeping. Unlike Dragonite and Scizor, Breloom is not meant for any other purpose other than destroying non-specific targets. It's great movepool grants access to a vast arsenal of devastating attacks. It might not be quick, but it'll hit hard. Not to mention its typing, ability, and immunities give me a clear and strategic advantage.
6.) Jellicent,
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/593.gif)
- And last but not least, Jellicent. A serious defensive threat. I needed something that would absorb everything that's thrown at it and block any attempts at entry hazard clearing. Jellicent plays the role of my Bulky Water and checks many threats against my team. Jellicent also proves it usefulness with Will-O-Wisp and Taunt, two excellently Disruptive moves.
Most importantly, the actual RMT.
**Updated but unfinished**
Spoiler:
C.) Roles, Details, and Analysis / Methods
1.) Suicide - Lead
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/485.gif)
Flash Fire
252 Sp. Attack / 252 HP / 4 Speed
Quiet [+Sp.Attack; -Speed]
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
-
a.) My "Pseudo" Suicide-Lead. The reason I went with Heatran is for its ability to abuse resistances. Heatran can put up a fight against other Leads such as Infernape, Metagross, Azelf and Scizor. If everything works, I'm going to be able to Taunt my opponent and prevent them from setting up entry hazards or any other Supportive/Disruptive moves, then lay some of my own.Explosion should only be considered after extensive testing. Earth Power fixes a lot of my problems like Metagross and Jirachi and I'm not willing to give it up and turn Heatran into a full fledged Suicide Lead since it has some respectable bulk.
b.) Mostly everyone is going to be banking on me running a Choice Band Specs Heatran. Which I plan on working to my advantage and subliminally inducing miss prediction. The will work in my defense assuming that I am confronted with a fast, strong, Fighting type Lead. Unfortunately, I do not get the luxury of running an offensive item, but that will be a small resistance when I'm actually able to use Heatran as a normally functioning Pokemon. But Leftovers should never be ignored. Much like any standard Lead it's going to be all about getting in, dropping Stealth Rock, and moving on. Only difference is Heatran can do it more than once.
2.) Supporter
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/380.gif)
Levitate
252 HP /
Calm [+Sp.Defense; -Attack]
-
- Recover
- Psychic / Charge Beam
- Thunder Wave / Reflect
a.) My Supporter. Latias' obvious and innate defensive capabilities along side of her movepool make her the perfect choice. However, I just can't decide what my best attack option is. Ice Beam gives me a 4x hit on Salamence and a super-effective hit on most Ground types, which I am keeping indefinitely. Dragon Pulse can do everything Ice Beam can do. Psychic gives me my primary STAB attack and hits Infernape and Conkeldurr hard. Or I could even go with Charge Beam for a pseudo- "BoltBeam". It won't 2HKO Gyarados, but with the added benefit of stat boosting it cannot be completely dismissed.
b.) That being said, my goal here is to pose a threat to sweepers since the majority of them can't function with Paralysis. Reflect will ensure a Defense boost for the team and also lessen the strength of Pursuit, an attack that Latias will surely confront. Recover as a reliable recovery move. Chesto Berry in case I use Rest instead. I am unsure about the Soul Dew. If someone could give me a brief idea of it's legality in competitive battling, that would be great.
3.) WallBreaker
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/149.gif)
Inner Focus
252 Attack / 252 Sp.Attack /
Quiet [+Sp.Attack; -Speed]
- ExtremeSpeed / Roost
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Superpower
a.) It was very, very hard to not use Salamence. But, there are some benefits to Dragonite as a whole. Due to its superior Special Defense, Ice Beam is sure to OHKO Salamence but will only 2HKO Dragonite (Factoring in Salamence taking Physical hits more effectively). Although it comes at a great cost. Superpower, is such another, which is available to Dragonite as opposed to Salamence. However, it seems to come down to "Which 4x weakness Dragon/Flying Pokemon do I want, Dragonite? Or Salamence?" I just do not have that answer.
b.) Anyway, Dragonite is my mixed wallbreaker. Draco Meteor for my main STAB attack. Fire Blast and Superpower are for non-grounded Steel types, Earthquake would be for the ladder. Now, I'm having a bit of controversy over ExtremeSpeed > Roost. Dragonite is slow and lumbering and with ExtremeSpeed being an available move, considering how I'm running a Mixed Sweeper, it seems like a logical solution to a obvious issue. However, seeing as I (feel like I) have a decent move spread, Roost would make Dragonite bulky and intimidating. That being said, my intention for Dragonite is to take down Walls, so ExtremeSpeed would pick off weakened foes. This is yet another question that I have no answer for.
4.) Revenge Killer / Scout / Physical Sweeper
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/212.gif)
Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Technician
Adamant [+Attack; -Sp.Attack]
- Superpower
- U-Turn
-
- Pursuit
a.) Scizor – the center of my team and my Revenge Killer..and my Pokemon to Scout out opponent's teams.. and a Physical Sweeper to take out certain threats. It seems like I can build a team without Dark Pokemon! Scizor has a respectable amount of work on my team, seeing as he supports my only Bug/Dark type moves. Scizor functions best as a Lead, but if left to its own devices Scizor will do well for itself. Plus, with Pursuit, I can do serious damage to an Azelf that picked up Nasty Plot. After reviewing my Threat List, I decided against Bullet Punch only because there are so few instances in which I can use it. Where as Superpower is an all around better choice. But that's no reason to pretend Bullet Punch doesn't exist.
b.) In my opinion, Pursuit is the ideal move for Scizor as most slower sweepers have a healthy fear of it's power. Bullet Punch makes an excellent priority move, not to mention the healthy boost from Technician for the two. Roost promises a reliable recovery move in the face of ever-present Fighting Types. Superpower cannot be dismissed easily, however. Now, there's a lot of potential in U-Turn and the Choice Band. Scizor can function as a very effective scout, as my team will face certain threats that Scizor may not be equivalent in power to. Luckily, Scizor's great typing allow him to resist a variety of Special Attacks like Dark and Dragon Pulse. So, if I encounter a fast Special Sweeper, Scizor can suck it up, U-Turn, and switch-out to a more appropriate Pokemon. Add that to the Choice boost and I'm sure to do a lot of damage.
5.) Physical Sweeper
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/286.gif)
Breloom (M) @ Toxic Orb
Poison Heal
252 Attack / 244 Speed / 12 HP
Jolly [+Speed; -Sp.Attack]
- Spore
- Drain Punch / Mach Punch
- Stone Edge
- Seed Bomb
a.) There is much to be said about Breloom. With a 100% accurate Sleep move and a status immunity, Breloom is one of the more potent and powerful fighters of the 5th Gen. As it stands, 4 of my 6 Pokemon take neutral damage from Rock and Flying type attacks. Although not a viable solution for the ladder in terms of typing, Breloom, with the addition of Stone Edge, solves many of my teams flaws. The Jolly nature just means that I'll be able to hit faster, but I lose the potential 394 Attack stat. I will be able to hit other Breloom though.
b.) Now, the absence of Substitute means one thing, there is no Focus Punch. It is a secondary moveset option and, yes, I realize what that means. However, it does free up a move slot for Seed Bomb, a great STAB attack, and Stone Edge. Stone Edge removes my flying threat and hits Breloom's greatest enemy, Gengar, very hard. Facade deserves mentioning simply because of what Breloom is. The Toxic Orb means that a Base Power 70 attack becomes something fierce. It also means that Breloom isn't afraid of Toxic Spikes and can effectively be a status absorber. Better yet, the Toxic Orb plus Poison Heal means that I get 2x the health I would normally get with Leftovers. The 12 EV's in HP means I get the most out of the recovery. Drain Punch only makes that sweeter.
6.) Wall
![[PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team** [PokeCommunity.com] **My First OU Team**](https://imgboot.com/images/aragornbird/593.gif)
Jellicent(M) @ Leftovers
Cursed Body / Water Absorb
- Will-O-Wisp
-
- Recover
- Ice Beam / Taunt
a.) Jellicent's typing is what makes it the beast it is. It's a great check to many of the threat my team faces. I switch in Jellicent and they run. Simple yet effective. Recover is the most reasonable choice, being able to absorb a Draco Meteor from Latios with it's assistance. Jellicent's typing, followed by a well placed switch-in, will also act as my Spinblocker. Taunt will be able to stall up slower Pokemon who rely on a recovery move like Blissey. **However, after a series of battles, I fall victim to Pokemon who could be easily dealt with by Ice Beam.** Now, there is no Pokemon on my team, baring Heatran who we are assuming is dead, that can viably lure in Water type attacks. Hence, Water Absorb + Recovery. I will be able to take on a Choice-locked Reuniclus.
b.) I decided to not go with Toxic because this isn't a dedicated stall team. Plus Will-O-Wisp has better synergy with Scald. I know Ice Beam would cover Breloom and Viziron and Shadow Ball would hit Psychic types hard. But I'm relying on Latias and Scizor to do that job. Therefore Jellicent's moveset is leaning towards Scald as I only have limited ways of dealing with other Heatran, who may or may not switch-out at the sight of Jellicent anyway. No matter what I choose, I'm going to be walled by the opposing type, so my goal is to remove as many threats as I can to my existing team rather than on a case by case basis.
And finally, the Threat List. I plan on developing this further.
**Now updated to reflect the changes made to team**
Spoiler:
D.) Team Threats
1.)
Excadrill - Heatran can take Excadrill on with Fire Blast or Earth Power. Jellicent can use Surf. Dragonite can hit Excadrill with Superpower or Fire Blast. Breloom with Drain Punch. Scizor with Superpower.

17.)
Genesect - The only thing I can do about Genesect is hope I hit it with a Fire Blast from Heatran or Dragonite. Luckily, Genesect isn't allowed in Standard play.
