Anime/Manga My Hero Academia [s4]

So, being mindful of spoiling people please, who's watching this season and how are you finding it? I have heard that it adapts an arc of the manga many consider to be the best. I'm up to date with the episodes released so far and I have to admit I wasn't feeling it as much as the previous seasons at first, the first 5-6 episodes were extremely slow going with not a lot happening but the most recent few have really started picking up and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

I like the build up in tension, and also the world building so far. For the first time I'm getting the idea that the separation of "heroes" and "villains" has had a sizeable social impact in this world, up to a point that I actually feel bad even for the least important bad guys we've been seeing this season.

It has definitely been interesting seeing the expanded worldbuilding this season. I'm with you on everything you said.

As someone who has been keeping up with the manga for years and loves this arc more than any other, I can definitely say the quality in the anime adaptation is...not as great. The animation quality has been all right so far, but things like panel differences (anime vs manga) and lighting choices (the Shie Hassaikai HQ is more dimly-lit and creepier in the manga) are very noticeable.

I'm still excited since we have a bit to go and future episodes could be much better. Perhaps budget is going to the later fights. There's also the finale of this arc to wait for, and I have faith will likely be a very powerful scene/episode in the anime adaptation as well.

The newest episode was much better! They did Kirishima so much justice and I'm happy for him. Fatgum was great too, and the action scenes were animated well. What did you guys think of this one??

I was just coming here to talk about it! I absolutely loved getting some Kirishima backstory and loved the emotional weight to the action scene as well for the uniqueness it has in the genre as being primarily a battle of endurance. I liked Kirishima from the get-go but this season in particular really adds to him.

ngl... as much as I'm enjoying the story of this arc, episode 77 felt really lacklustre. 76 was really good, but 77 felt like a big let down. I can't quite pinpoint exactly what about it bothers me, it just felt like it was over too fast, too easily and like Froppy and Uraraka were kinda robbed. The overall story, animation and everything was all really good for the arc but that episode in particular really didn't measure up to the hype it promised.

This might actually be my favourite season so far! Mirio and Tamaki are awesome, seeing the kids act more like full heroes is great, I like All-Might but it was nice to have him take a backseat so the story isn't just Deku fawning over him for whole episodes, and I like the extra dimensions it gives to my favourite characters - Shiguraki's a little more mature and acts like a real supervillain, and Toga's funnier and less weird and her friendship with Twice is a highlight of the show to me.

Also Mineta has barely been in the show so far this season please let this trend continue!

and like Froppy and Uraraka were kinda robbed.

Yeahhh.....sadly it was the same in the manga. Since the author specifically stated he can't give everyone enough attention in the manga due to deadlines, I was hoping the anime would give more spotlight to Uraraka and Asui instead. /: It's a bummer.

Mirio losing his quirk will be heartbreaking no matter what though. ;_; my boy

That's fair enough... for like... Mineta, Koji or anyone in 1B. It really shouldn't happen to the two most prominent female characters in the franchise. It was just poor writing. That episode overall was tbh, which is a shame because so much of this arc - and the show in general - is just so damn good.

ok so i know i'm behind bc i watch dubs but the kidsitting part 1 was hella fun and i've been waiting for that to get adapted for a while

I was concerned at the start of the episode but I quickly found I loved it. By the end of the second episode that little mini-arc had become one of the highlights of the season.
