CHAPTER 1 - The Dragon, the Kitsune, and the Ice Serpent
    /through Ayame Hikaru's eyes/

I slowly got out of bed, still tired. I never was one to get up early. Still, the Soul Reaper Academy required it. Especially on a day like today. I was being transferred to Squad 9, and that was all I knew. I had been out of the Soul Reaper Academy for a while, actually, but nobody wanted me in their squad. My friend, Izumi Michi, was being transferred to the same squad as me. Me and Izumi were close, having trained together back in the Academy. I was also good friends with my soon-to-be Captain, Amaya Amarante. I wasn't nervous at all. Actually, I was eager to finally be in a Squad. I sat in silence, thinking of all the fun things I could finally do. I jumped up, startled, as I heard a loud knock at the door. Calming down after a couple minutes, I walked over and opened the door, smiling upon realizing who it was. "Amaya!" I greeted, happy to see her. I gazed into her eyes, sparkling pools of blue liquid, as she smiled back. "Hello Ayame." I heard her greet me. Amaya had always amazed me. I don't know if it was the way she handled certain situations, or if it was her cheerful personality, but something made her like a mother to me. "Do you want to come inside? We can have some tea." I suggested. It was nice out, but tea sounded good right about now. "Sure, why not?" Upon hearing her reply, I turned around and headed back in, glancing back for a moment to make sure she was following. I let her get comfortable at the table and wandered off to make the tea. The whole time I was making it, I couldn't get the excitement of today out of my mind. After a few minutes, I emerged from the room I was in with two cups of tea. I gave Amaya hers first, even making sure to call her 'Captain Amarante'. "There's no need to call me Captain. You know as well as I do that we're friends." From that point on, we spent half of the day chatting about how exciting it was to have me in her Squad. Still, something bugged me. I don't know what, but something just didn't feel right.

After a few hours of chatting, Amaya was called to go to a Captain's Meeting. We said goodbye and gave eachother a hug before she left. I guess I felt a little bit better after she left. Maybe it was just the fact that my best friend was now my Captain that was bugging me. I can't be so sure. Still, me and Amaya had planned a training session for tomorrow afternoon. I couldn't keep being bugged by a fact that couldn't change. As I sat down to enjoy a few more cups of tea, I found myself wondering what they talked about in Captain's meetings. I've never wanted to be a Captain, and know that I most likely never will be. Of course, this never bothered me. Still, I just had to wonder what Amaya and everybody else talked about. I drew my blade, looking over the sharp edges, hoping to distract myself from such thoughts. I eventually succeeded, being more interested in the sharp pointy tip of Kohakukasumi. Amaya had helped me figure out it's name, but I still hadn't managed to successfully use Shikai. Amaya even tried to help me when she had free time, though that wasn't often. I decided to go for a walk after a while, telling myself that there was nothing better to do. I wasn't expecting much from a simple walk around Seireitei, but I got more then what I wanted. I ran right into Captain Hitsugaya when we were walking around a corner. Nobody else was around, and for that I was thankful. I had fallen backwards from the impact, so he helped me up, not even really looking like he cared. We visited for a moment, and finally he brought up my being transferred to Squad 9. I blushed, trying desperately to hide it, and failing. Luckily he was looking the other way the whole time. After a couple more minutes, we decided it was time to get back to whatever we were doing, and said goodbye. It wasn't as thorough as when Amaya was visiting, we just waved at eachother and left the area. Hitsugaya, like always, didn't look like he cared much. I have always had a bit of a crush on him. Still, I tried not to let it show too obviously. After finishing my walk, I decided it was time for bed. I didn't like staying up late, and I had a training session tomorrow. I got comfortable, a now empty cup of tea by my side, and slowly drifted off to sleep.

    CHAPTER 2 - I should hope I'm not insane
    /Through Amaya Amarante's eyes/

By the time it hit 6:00 AM, I was already up. The news from yesterdays Captain's Meeting was great. I couldn't wait to tell Ayame. I would tell her about some things and finish out training session first, though. I didn't want her to hear the plan and not even know what she gets to see. Being Captain of Squad 9, I tried to look a bit more dignified. Of course, I failed. My personality just wasn't like my fathers. Still, all of that was behind me now. I sat down, my hand resting on the hilt of my blade. "Kiyoshikazu..." I whispered to myself. It was common that I would do this. It usually calmed me down for some reason. Kiyoshikazu was the name of my Zanpakuto, and somehow I knew that as soon as I became a Soul Reaper. I had been able to communicate with her at a very young age. Rather then training, me and the mysterious Illusion-type Zanpakuto would hang out around Rukongai and play with the children there. Of course, nobody knew she was an Illusion-type except for Captain Ukitake and the Captain-Commander. If everybody knew Kiyoshikazu's tricks, her skills wouldn't be as effective in a fight. In fact, everybody else thought she was simply a Kido-Type Zanpakuto. Water element, to be specific. I sat there for a while. A very long while, actually. Maybe an hour or two. I lost track of what time it was after a bit. I had to keep peeking outside to see where the sun was. It was boring in the morning. The number one reason why I almost never get up early. I never exactly liked going to bed early, either. Noting the time, I got up and headed towards to door. It was almost time for Ayame's training session. I darted out, using Shunpo to make the process faster, and finally arrived in the large training area. Ayame was already waiting, rather impatiently, on a large rock in the center of the large area. I smiled cheerfully and waved, watching her perk up and rush over. "Amaya!" I heard her greet me. I gazed into her forest green eyes for a moment. "Hello Ayame." I replied, drawing my blade. She quickly drew hers in response, and I smiled. "Nice reaction, but lets see how well you react to this." I commented, darting towards her with a determined look in my eyes.

Once the training session was over, we were both pretty beaten up. Ayame had finally managed to use Shikai. I sat on the rock and rested my hand on Kiyoshikazu's hilt. "Kiyoshikazu..." I whispered to myself once again. "Did you say something, Amaya?" I heard Ayame ask. "Nothing, just talking to myself." I replied. I was telling the truth, so her response frightened me a bit. "...Amaya, are you insane? I hear only insane people talk to themselves." was what I heard. It took me a moment to reply, but I managed to spit something out. "Uhm... Of course not! There's no way I'm insane." I answered, rather quickly. I wanted to get off of that topic. The idea of me being insane was just crazy. But then, I had to wonder if I really was insane. "If you say so..." I heard that reply and let out a small sigh of relief. Finally, I decided to bring something up. "Ayame, have you ever been to the world of the living? I was ordered to go there to help slay the Hollow because there have been more Hollow attacks in Karakura Town lately. I was also ordered to bring one person of my choice." I spoke rather softly, making sure not everybody in the area knew. Ayame looked up at me, almost looking amazed. "So... you're bringing me?" Immediately after her question, I nodded in reply. I had already planned to bring her, and i knew she would agree. After a while of talking it over and deciding to leave tomorrow, we headed back to the barracks. I didn't go to bed immediately once I got in my room. Rather, I went to my office and beganto draw. I had been to the world of the living before, and the sights were wonderful. I remembered it oh so very clearly. I began to draw the black pavement of the road, with the white and yellow likes trailing down it. Lining the road were city lights, turned on to keep the road lit up at night. The green grass was dark, just barely lit up by the lights above it. A little ways back in the grass was a large pond, reflecting the moon from far above. Behind all of this, far off in the distance, a bright light revealed a large city, filled with skyscrapers and other tall buildings. Finally, after the picture was finished, I fell asleep right there, hovering just over the beautiful city. I didn't know what Karakura Town was like, but I hoped it was just like the strange place I drew.

CHAPTER 3- How I tortured my Captain
    /through Ayame Hikaru's eyes/

My eyes widened as me and Amaya stepped through the Senkaimon. The scenery was beautiful. To our left, a long stream streaked through the grass. To our right, hills rose from the ground, just barely blocking the roofs of houses. I was busy looking around, so I hadn't even noticed that Amaya was about to leave until she mentioned it. "Ayame, we have to take care of the Hollow before looking around. I promise we can look around after, though." I turned to face her, nodding quickly. Her voice was a bit more stern then it normally was, so I knew I needed to listen. We took off, passing houses and other strange things. The houses here in the world of the living were nothing like the ones back at Soul Society. Even the sky itself looked so much different. It was strange, though. I continued to follow Amaya, thinking about how different this world was. Finally, we stopped near a crowd of people. "There's a Hollow here..." I heard Amaya whisper to herself. Sure enough, a Hollow came darting around the corner. Amaya quickly took it out, and we continued on to the next one. I was allowed to fight the next one. I took it out after a few minutes, turning to face Amaya. "How many more are left?" I asked this purely out of curiousity. Amaya took one glance at her tracker and gave me an odd look. "Ayame... we only killed two of them, right...?" I gave her a confused look. "Yeah, why?" My voice was quieter now. Something strange was going on. "Come on. Somebody else took out one of the Hollows and I want to figure out who. Whoever it is is heading for the Hollow nearby, so we'll be able to catch them." She darted off shortly after saying this, and I was sure to follow close behind. We skidded to a stop once we saw the interference. He was an orange haired Soul Reaper, but I had never seen him before. His Zanpakuto was bigger then him, and yet he seemed to have no trouble holding it. He had it pointing straight at the Hollow. I heard Amaya growl. It was a low growl, but a growl nonetheless. "Let me take care of this. This idiot is gonna pay for stealing my prey." I nodded and took a few steps back. I watched closely as Amaya drew her blade, holding it up in the air. "Burst like a rising wave nearing the heated sun... Kiyoshikazu!" I had never seen Amaya's Zanpakuto in Shikai before, so I was careful, even examining the blade. It had turned into a sharp Scimitar, however the blade was almost transparent, like glass. In the middle of the blade, a long strip of bright blue liquid that looked almost like a sapphire. I watched closely, chuckling slightly as Amaya jumped right over the strange Soul Reaper, knocking him to the ground as she passed. "Don't interfere with a Soul Reaper's work, kid!" I heard her yell at the strange boy just before she knocked him to the ground. She took out the Hollow with a quick swipe of her blade before darting around and pointing her blade at the boy, who was trying to get up. "Who the hell do you think you are!?" I wanted to tell her to go easy on him, but I had to just stay and watch. A stood there, frozen, as the boy managed to get up, pushing Amaya's blade out of the way. "Ichigo Kurosaki, Substitute Soul Reaper for Rukia Kuchiki. What's it to ya?" I took a few steps back as he mentioned Kuchiki. Rukia was the adoptive sister of Byakuya Kuchiki, the head of the Kuchiki house. I stared in disbelief as Amaya lowered her blade, dipping her head shortly after. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interfere. I was ordered to come here by- Hey! Where do you think your going!" I chuckled slightly as Amaya shouted at Ichigo, who was leaving already. "Sorry, but I don't have the time to sit here and listen to you talk." And after that, he was gone. He just disappeared into thin air. I had seen the technique before; Shunpo, or Flash Step. However, I had never heard of a Substitute Soul Reaper using it. Almost in a rush, me and Amaya darted off in a random direction. "Now that that's over... I promised you we would explore, didn't I?" I looked beside me, nodding, but there wasn't any Amaya there. Instead, there was a... dog. A gray dog with bright blue eyes. Honestly, it looked more like a wolf. "It'll be easier like this. Humans often keep pets. Come on." And so, I took off with my new pet Captain... and I had absolutely no clue where we were going.

By the time the day was almost over, I had the most interesting story ever, free for me to tell everyone. I bought a pink collar an even brighter pink leash, both of which I put on Amaya. Then, after she snapped at me, we went shopping for books and clothes. Once that was over, we went to get something to eat. We had one more destination; The house that Ichigo lived in. Amaya wanted to stay with them a few days, if only to keep a close eye on this Substitute Soul Reaper. I watched from the bushes as she scratched at the door, and a small light-haired girl answered. She was quickly allowed inside, so I was finally able to get out of the bushes. I climbed out, darting towards the sidewalk and wandering off. I stopped by a library, peeking inside the window and quickly heading for the door. The library was closed, but the door was unlocked, so I figured it was safe to go in. I wandered inside, grabbing a random book and sitting at a table. When I was reading, I usually blocked everything out. Completely. Nothing could distract me when I had a book. It wasn't until after I finished reading through the book that I realized how late it was. I slipped to a shelf and slid the book back where I found it, quickly darting out the door. Amaya had told me where I could stay. She told me to go to a shop a couple blocks away. She said nobody would answer the door if I knocked, so I could just walk inside and find a bed. I did just as she said, and sure enough, I found an empty room with a small bed in the corner. I wandered over, finally realizing how tired I actually was, and curled up in the bed. I drifted off to sleep, my mind crowded with thoughts about what Amaya could be doing right now.
