Question: My images are too small!!!

Hello all :)
I just have a question regarding the posting/sizing of pictures in a post/sig...
My problem is, whenever I attempt to post an image for my signature, or, mainly when replying to threads like "Caption The Picture" etc. the selected image always comes up tiny!!! I can manage the actual attachment part, and uploading it....it's just this problem I always have with the size of it, for some reason. I've tried numerous times now, it's just not working right for me! Please, can someone assist me with this? :(

If you're actually attaching the image to the post, it normally looks small until you click on it:

I never got why people bother with attaching images anymore when you can just directly put it into the post with the [IMG][/IMG] tags by uploading it to imgur or Photobucket or something.

So with using the img tag the same picture will look like this in your post:
