I hope this is the right place to put this thread.
If not, sorry, please tell me where and I'll repost or something...
Not many of you may know this, but on youtube, I am known as MasterSamurai. I have put up a lot of music videos. Over about a two or one year period, I have been absent from uploading videos due to a lack in the internet power to do so. Dial up sucks.
Well, now when I got the power back, I made a video to show that I had finally returned to making videos for youtube!
I made a video using the music of my favorite band, Metallica. The song was "That Was Just Your Life" and it was played as clips of the three Bourne Movies played. Well, I uploaded the movie.
Then I recieved some very frustrating news.
Youtube had blocked the video due to a copyright claim to the song. This wasn't the first time this has happened to me, but I'll discuss this later. I guess I could understand, but I was not very happy at all, because those of you who have seen my videos, I use a LOT of copyrighted music. Youtube has never had a problem with me making these before.
But now they do appearently, as I have seen a lot of my videos become blocked due to copyright claims.
The first to go was a video that had a song that wasn't even copyrighted! It was a video tributing my favorite baseball team, the Seattle Mariners. They said the video was claimed to be owned by Baseball itself...this made me furious because I made that video, without any footage whatsoever. Every second was an image I found for free on image searching sites.
The second to go was my return video mentioned above. I wasn't so happy with this, but that's not my problem.
The third to go was a 9/11 Rememberance video I made, featuring the music of Exibit 13, by the Blue Man Group.
Then finally the fourth, and porobably not the last, was a music video featuring Linkin Park's In the End.
I was furious with the blocking of these two videos because it is a fact that they had been up there for almost 3 years.
Now I've decided to leave Youtube as far as making videos go. I actually plan to make a final video for youtube on this subject.
I know youtube recieves a lot of crap concerning copyright, but youtube's going too far. This is almost as ridiculous as Metallica's crusade against Napster. Even Metallica understands that mp3 technology is just a part of today's lifestyle now. They actually didn't get that angry after Death Magnetic leaked 10 days before release. That album still sold at #1 around the world for three weeks straight!
Am I overreacting? Maybe, but I guarantee I am not th eonly one getting videos blocked. I bet you we will start to see an enormous amount of AMVs blocked, concert footage by fans blocked, and other awesome vids blocked!
People enjoyed those and my videos while they were up. Now I either have to let the videos go, or remake them and put them up on the site I now go to.
I have moved to veoh under the name ThrashMetalMilitia. I only hope veoh doesn't one day go through the same crap youtube is going through right now.
I am leaving youtube for an undetermined amount of time until this crap plays through. I hope to have the old youtube back soon.
Goodbye old memories...
I plane to see a lot more blocked...especially another 9/11 rememberance video I made. This particular one features the song "Where Were You?" by Alan Jackson. I have recieved an enormous amount of good comments and ratings for this video, it's probably my highest rated video on there yet!
If it goes down, I will be extremely angry...
I wonder if anyone is doing what I'm doing? Protesting against this matter?
I'd like your opinions please and thanks.
