4th Gen Mystery gift wifi!

Hey i want to use my mystery gift wifi, but im learning that there needs to be a nintendo event (correct me if im wrong?) And i do not understand. So does anyone know if there is a wifi event coming to america anytime soon? and if so how would i go about taking advantage? thanks
