*sigh* There was one time when I actually came up with English names for all the D/P Pokemon... I think because of that, I'm a tad disappointed with quite a few of the names that actually did come out for the Pokemon. Allow me to discuss some of them:
#388 Grotle: Erm...? It sounds weird and looks a lot like Grovyle... Eh, I would have suggested Turtile instead, but...
#396 Starly: Hee hee! Starly, how cute! I think this was one Pokemon I had a hard time coming up with a name for and eventually decided on Fetherby, but I like Starly better ^^
#400 Bibarel: OK, I like Bidoof, but Bibarel? Hmmm... just doesn't sound right.
#401 Kricketot and Kricketune: The K at the beginning doesn't look right... I like the names I created (Criminy and Leghopper) a little better, but oh well...
#406 Budew: Dewbud sounds a lot better. That's not the name I came up with before, mind you.
#408 Cranidos and Rampardos: OK... I really don't see why they put "dos" in the first stage Pokemon... Personally I would have picked Geosaur(us) over Cranidos, but... And wow, for its evolution, I picked Rampagon... Rampardos is actually close!
#411 Bastiodon: Another one that doesn't really sound right... I would have suggested Heftops...
#416 Vespiquen: That name sounds plain weird... For that family, I would have suggested Tricomb and Honeyqueen.
#417 Pachirisu: Okay, so they decided to stick with the Japanese name... Yes, this one is hard to come up with an English name for, but may I suggest Squirk...?
#420 Cherubi and Cherrim: Ah, these names turned out better than I expected! These were more Pokemon I had trouble coming up with names for... My final suggestions of Cheribud and Cheriloom didn't turn out that well.
#424 Ambipom: Erm... Might work... I was more expecting Handipom or even Simiantic, but...
#425 Drifloon/Drifblim: I was largely disappointed with these names... I think mine are much better... Ballimp? Inflotion?
#428 Lopunny: Personally I think Bunlop sounds better, but... Buneary is fine.
#429 Mismagius: This is a pretty good name... though I probably would have liked it even more had I not been caught up with calling it "Phantomage" instead...
#430 Honchkrow: Darkrow! DARKROW!!! Isn't it obvious?
#433 Chingling: Again, I am relieved. Chingling is cute! This is another one I had a hard time coming up with a name for.
#436 Bronzor/Bronzong: These names would have been fine if the Pokemon were actually made of bronze. But since they're NOT, well... (My version: Prismire/Tombell)
#440 Happiny: The name I came up with was Tickley, but I'm happy with Happiny.
#442 Spiritomb: I like it. Really.
#443 Gible/Gabite/Garchomp: Yeah, more lame-ish names... (My version: Dragfiend/Flyzard/Soragon)
#447 Riolu: WHY CAN'T THEY KEEP THE DARNED JAPANESE NAME?!? This was the exact same problem I had with Lucario... Rioru and Rukario sound so much better...
#449 Hippopotas/Hippowdon: They could at least take off the W there... (My suggestion for one of them: Muddle)
#451 Skorupi: This is one of those names I'd think was better off Romanized... let's say, Scorpy?
#457 Lumineon: NO FAIR!! That was a name I gave to a Pokemon I created!! I can't believe they stole it!
#459 Snover/Abomasnow: Well, I think "Snowapple" would have done for one of them, as they look like pineapples sort of, but...
#462 Magnezone: I experimented with Magnewave and Magnebot, but Magnezone works too.
#464 Rhyperior: Yeah, and they really didn't need to keep the "rhy" especially when combined with "superior"... (My version: Quaken)
#465 Tangrowth: Tanjumble sounds so much better...
#466 Electivire: Isn't there already a Carnivire? I personally would have said Electabolt, but...
#467 Magmortar: They could have taken the lazy way out and said "Magburn", which would have been fine...
#468 Togekiss: YAY!! Finally we agree on something. Hooray for keeping Japanese name!
#469 Yanmega: Pfft... Why couldn't they just keep it as "Megayanma"...
#470 Leafeon: YAY!! That was the exact name I gave to Leafia, so I'm happy.
#471 Glaceon: ...On the other hand, I thought Haileon would have looked better.
#472 Gliscor: Oh please. Just keep it at Glion.
#474 Porygon-Z: I almost had a fear of them coming up with a name different from this. Whew.
#475 Gallade: Yes, this one is difficult. Maybe it's a little better than my "Acromental", but still I think it's kind of... well...
#476 Probopass: I and a few other people would have said "Nostache" instead... Maybe this works too.
#477 Dusknoir: When I tried to come up with different names for this Pokemon, I kept thinking of words that could go well with Dusk, and ended up failing and resorting to "Mesmare". Well, I can think Dusknoir is kind of difficult to say, but...
#478 Froslass: Yet again, the Japanese name sounds better. Just like they did with Makuhita, they could have just shortened this to Yukimono.
#479 Rotom: Errr... Probite? Ehheh...
#480 Uxie: Pfft. I like Gemwise much better.
#481 Mesprit: Well, they could have gone more along the lines of "Emorite"... I mean, I liked that Japanese name "Emuritto", so that's pretty close.
#482 Azelf: I personally don't think it looks too much like an elf, but I think it works pretty well.
#483 Dialga/Palkia: Great... more lame romanizations. I think even my rather lame-ish suggestions of Kingmond and Ivorine may have been a tad better... What would have been even better, of course, was just keeping them "Diaruga" and "Parukia" instead. Something about the letter L takes away all the charm.
#485 Heatran: I suppose after coming up with an unrelated name like Armage, I really accepted a partial romanization like this.
#486 Regigigas: A tad too many G's for my taste, but it might work. My suggestion was Regiant, but I don't suppose that's much better either...
#487 Giratina: Yay, they kept the Japanese name and it sounds good! Yay!
#488 Cresseria: "Cresceria" is they way I might spell it instead, but other than that...
#489 Phione: What is it with the PH's for this family? This was the exact complaint I had for Manaphy--I think Manafi looks a lot better than that. And Fione... It's at least better than Phione. I did come up with Tealdrop as a name, but...
#491 Darkrai: Ah, now I know why they didn't give the name "Darkrow" to Donkarasu! But then that can be corrected by changing Darkrai's name to something like "Darcasm" or even "Mesmare" if it didn't work for the Dusclops evo.
#492 Shaymin: Okay, so my suggestion of Sucrane didn't pass... But that's actually not a bad romanization.
#493 Arceus: WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CHANGE IT?? "Aruseus" looks SO much better...
*goes to come up with a different name for the ficPokemon previously known as Lumineon*
EDIT: *comes up with Solareon* Ahh, I feel much better.
