name change?

i know name changes isn't exactly something that's done on these forums, but i was hoping somebody could make an exception.

my new computer doesn't have the option to use alt codes, so i can no longer type the symbol that is in my name...and i have to hunt it down then copy/paste it just to log in.

Hey there. Not using your Mac anymore then? Since '§' is on the Mac keyboard.

I am not sure that you will be allowed to have it changed, since it does put pressure and strain on the servers. The best person to ask would be Ausaudriel, but I doubt the answer will be yes. :/

If you're on a Windows computer (I'm not sure if there's a Mac equivalent), you can go to Run, then type in "charmap" and see if you can find the character in question. :x

Edit: Alternatively, you could bookmark your own profile so you can just copy and paste it from your profile to log in.

Adding onto what they said, something you can do because you can't do name changes is go to your usercp and click on "Personal Notepad", saving the code there. It'll always be stored right there on your usercp, I use it for most things. :)

He needs it to log on easier, like he hunts it down to log on which means he cant get to the personal notepad.

When you finally hunt it down, copy and paste it onto a writing program like word or wordpad. Then whenever you wanna log in, copy and paste it from there.

Or actually, I have another solution, but I haven't tested it yet, It's called Microsoft's Keyboard Layout creator. It SHOULD have the section symbol as an option. And if you're not a programmer, I recommend you replace the | character.

Not unless you have strict cookie settings, which you shouldn't by default.

On computers running Windows and Mac OS X (I'm not sure about Linux), Alt codes accomplish symbol typing shortcuts so you don't have to use character maps, or copy and paste it, or even remapping your keyboard layout with various programs. They're hard to remember at first, but after a while, you'll eventually memorize it and type it without a problem.

On Windows, since that's your operating system, hold down ALT and then press 2 and then 1. §§§§§§§

I'd imagine that he's on a laptop or something that doesn't have the number pad off to the side. I've had a similar computer before and been unable to use codes like the one for é in Pokémon.

Note that while some laptop keyboards will lack a number pad, some of these same laptops will have a Num Lock key on them, and then what you have to do is look at your keys to find tiny numbers that match the color of the phrase "Num Lock" on the Num Lock key. That would be how you do alt codes.
