6th Gen Need help with my Global Link region

    Hi everyone, I'm Hugh. Long-time Pokémon player, first time poster.

    I have a question about Global Link if anyone can help. I haven't set it up before, and I'm not sure which region I would belong to. I own an American 3DS and games and go to the US a couple of times a year (my wife is American), but I live in the UK. Which region would I register under? Does it go by your internet connection or your 3DS region?

    Secondly, if I was to register for Global Link in the US, would I then still be able to use Global Link in the UK, or vice-versa?

    Sorry if these seem like rookie questions - I come from the days of the Link Cable.

    If you are using an NA console, you should stick to the region to match with the events. I set my region to a non-US region despite using an American 3DS and I nearly missed the exclusive Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Demo due to my honesty, I mean stupidity.

    As of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, your GL account isn't connected to your 3DS' region, so no worries on that.

    You can use any regions of Global Link, but your Global Link's region (not to be confused with your own location) must match up with your 3DS game card's region. Similarly when signing in, your game card must match up the rightful Global Link region it belongs to.
     
    By the way, Global Link region is unrelated to Wi-Fi distribution events. That has to do with the region of your 3DS + game.

    That being said, Serebii reports that European region gets the same events as North American region does. With your NA 3DS you'll be able to download the ones that will be available over Nintendo Zone Wi-Fi download, but you likely won't be able to get the serial code ones, if you were to go to the actual in-stores locations in the UK to get serial codes. You would have to get someone from North America who can go to the event there and get you serial codes.

    Edit: Actually I may be wrong there. Usually serial code events are region-locked, but there are some serial code events in the past that have been redeemable on more than one region.
    Namely, this Arceus and this Hoopa, or this other Hoopa, although it is likely Taiwan region just gets its events from Japanese region.
    But Manesh Arceus and Manesh Hoopa were both serial code events, that could be redeemed on either American system + game or Japanese ones.

    Since America and Europe would be getting the same events, there's a possibility they may just use the same serial codes and they would be redeemable on both American and European 3DSes. In which case you would be able to get the serial code events as normal by going in-stores in the UK.
    But being Nintendo I wouldn't put it past them to make it region-locked anyway, lol. The Arceus and Hoopa in Singapore worked for both American and Japanese 3DSes likely because people in Singapore could have either a Japanese or an American system? and they would want to make the code redeemable for everyone regardless of which one they have? possibly?
    I don't really know the specifics but that is a reason why it could have been made to work for two regions.
