The team I'm building for the vgc format is one member short. I need some recomendations for Pokemon that will give my team better coverage. My lead off is Aurora Veil Ninetales, with Sword Dance Garchomp or Calm Mind Tapu Fini. The team was built to take advantage of Veil to set up and wear down opponents gradually. Here are my sets.

    Ninetales-Alola @ Focus Sash
    Ability: Snow Warning
    Level: 50
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    Timid Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Freeze-Dry
    - Blizzard
    - Protect
    - Aurora Veil

    Garchomp @ Groundium Z
    Ability: Sand Veil
    Level: 50
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
    Jolly Nature
    - Earthquake
    - Rock Slide
    - Swords Dance
    - Outrage

    Tapu Fini @ Sitrus Berry
    Ability: Misty Surge
    Level: 50
    EVs: 100 HP / 100 Def / 136 SpA / 144 SpD / 28 Spe
    Modest Nature
    IVs: 24 HP / 12 SpD / 15 Spe
    - Protect
    - Muddy Water
    - Dazzling Gleam
    - Calm Mind

    Magnezone @ Quick Claw
    Ability: Sturdy
    Level: 50
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Thunderbolt
    - Discharge
    - Flash Cannon
    - Thunder Wave

    Alakazam @ Alakazite
    Ability: Inner Focus
    Level: 50
    EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
    Timid Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Calm Mind
    - Psychic
    - Shadow Ball
    - Charge Beam

My Magnezone spread is tailored towards bulky, but it's to random to replicate right now. Any and all help is appreciated.

  • Therian Landorus outclasses Garchomp as a Ground Pokemon because it provides better utility with Intimidate. All four of the Tapus also give Garchomp a hard time. Volcarona is a threatening setup attacker as well:

    Therian Landorus:
    -Earthquake
    -Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Rock Tomb
    -Knock Off
    -U-turn/Superpower
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 140 HP/92 Atk/20 Def/4 SpD/252 Spe
    Item: Assault Vest

    or
    -Earthquake
    -Rock Slide
    -Superpower
    -U-turn
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 172 Atk/84 SpD/252 Spe
    Item: Choice Scarf

    or
    -Earthquake
    -Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Rock Tomb
    -Superpower
    -U-turn/Knock Off
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 12 HP/140 Atk/4 Def/100 SpD/252 Spe
    Item: Groundium Z

    Volcarona:
    -Quiver Dance
    -Bug Buzz/Overheat/Giga Drain
    -Heat Wave
    -Protect
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 20 HP/52 Def/212 SpA/4 SpD/200 Spe
    Item: Firium Z
    Ability: Flame Body

Quick Claw is too haxy and luck-based to rely on. Don't bother with it. If you really wanted a bulky Steel Pokemon, look no further than Aegislash:
    -Shadow Ball
    -Flash Cannon/Sacred Sword
    -Wide Guard
    -King's Shield
    Nature: Modest/Quiet
    EVs: 220 HP/4 Def/132 SpA/76 SpD/76 Spe or 220 HP/4 Atk/68 Def/140 SpA/76 SpD
    Item: Ghostium Z

    or
    -Substitute
    -Shadow Ball
    -Flash Cannon/Wide Guard
    -King's Shield
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 228 HP/4 Def/188 SpA/76 SpD/12 Spe
    Item: Wiki Berry

Alakazam isn't a particularly good Mega to use in VGC because of its immense frailty. Kangaskhan, Metagross, or Salamence are generally better Megas to fall back on; the latter also has a setup move in Dragon Dance:

    Kangaskhan:
    -Fake Out
    -Double-Edge
    -Low Kick
    -Sucker Punch/Ice Punch/Protect
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Kangaskhanite
    Ability: Scrappy

    Salamence:
    -Dragon Dance
    -Double-Edge
    -Earthquake/Roost
    -Protect
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 100 HP/116 Atk/12 Def/60 SpD/220 Spe
    Item: Salamencite
    Ability: Intimidate

    Metagross:
    -Iron Head
    -Zen Headbutt/Ice Punch
    -Stomping Tantrum/Ice Punch
    -Protect
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Metagrossite
    Ability: Flame Body

Another setup attacker to consider is Clangorous Soulblaze Kommo-o, but be aware it's a high risk/high reward Pokemon since you can only pull off Clangorous Soulblaze once; Aurora Veil can help with this. Despite its frailty, Mega Gengar provides good utility with Shadow Tag and is one of Kommo-o's best teammates to remove Fairy Pokemon before Kommo-o sets up. It should be noted that Kommo-o is better built around rather than just be randomly included:

    Gengar:
    -Shadow Ball
    -Sludge Bomb
    -Disable
    -Protect
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe or 60 HP/4 Def/140 SpA/52 SpD/252 Spe
    Item: Gengarite

    Kommo-:
    -Clanging Scales
    -Close Combat/Low Kick/Focus Blast
    -Flamethrower
    -Protect
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 4 HP/4 Def/180 SpA/68 SpD/252 Spe
    Item: Kommonium Z
    Ability: Soundproof

Replace the Magnezone's quick claw with an air balloon, air balloon means their Landorus, Zygard cannot just earthquake straight up. Also give it Volt Switch instead of Discharge as that means it can swap out easier.
Give Ninetales light clay instead of focus sash. Ninetales is fast and should out speed pretty much any starting Pokémon.
As for the added Pokémon, try Infernape.

    Infernape @ Focus Sash
    Ability: Blaze
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
    Jolly Nature
    - Stealth Rock
    - Blaze Kick
    - Thunder Punch
    - Close Combat

Hopefully I helped out a little.

This is a VGC team, which follows double battle rules. Stealth Rock isn't particularly viable in that format because of the fast pace of double battles. Infernape is also outdone by Incineroar and Volcarona as a Fire attacker in doubles because they provide better utility and power in Intimidate/Fake Out/Knock Off and Quiver Dance/Rage Powder, respectively. Mega Charizard Y and Heatran are also much stronger than Infernape is.

    Ah.
My bad, I didn't know what VCG meant embarrassingly enough.
I do agree about Infernape being bad in doubles, I was giving the build and advice assuming it was singles.
