EDIT 3: SceptileHero has pointed out that the sponsored link is a fake. He has provided a link to the real Pokemon Online site: https://www.pokemonworldonline.net/index.html
I have noticed a new sponsored link under pokemon video game discussions. I don't know if this was authorised by the admins or just an advertisement put there by the forum hosting company. But I have noticed it does target pokemon fans.
When one accesses the pokemon online game it asks that you must download a program called 'Zango' first. I have done several searches and found that this 'Zango' is renowned for mallicious practices such as installing components without user consent, installing spyware and adware, unwanted popups, hogging processing power and leaving behind residual components after uninstallation which cannot be easily removed. Even after legal issues these practices still continue.
In some cases where sites ask that you download Zango first, it may turn out that you don't need it after all if you just proceed with the download anyway and don't bother with Zango. However, some include Zango with the download.
Is it really such a good idea for this link, that asks to download a possibly untrustworthy program, on the pokecommunity forums? This is a nice place, I'd hate for it to be a gateway to such issues. Obviously, they don't provide a link to the Zango download, so they are probably considered safe simply because of that.
Better yet, does anyone else know any more about Zango? Are these claims of untrustworthiness false? I'd like to be proven wrong, I hope someone can prove me wrong...
Anyway, I'd like to hear from an admin in particular about this, but if anyone has any more onfo, please share it.
Stay safe.
EDIT: Going to try downloading the game without zango... with anti-virus and firewall on high alert
EDIT2: Yep, it prtty much won't run without it.
