I did download it but I scanned it and it said virus so i didn't install it.

Is that advert for the "Free Pokemon Online RPG download etc." thingy legit or am I gonna start getting 500MB of midget porn dumped on my machine?
Better yet anybody else downloaded it?
O_o........
Well, i've had bad stuff like malware, possibly because the junk that was already on that old piece of global warming waiting to happen. ITS NOT PRETTY. Trust me, millions of pop-ups, nasty things, and fake malware scanners. We got rid of the computer. It was old anyway. Point is, thats what it'll do to your computer.

There is already a thread like this. It's in Community Announcements.
And there using ads. to gain $$$

I'm pretty sure there isn't (first place I checked before posting this). If there is, I can't find it, but I'd like to read it so could anyone else post a link to it if they know where to find it?

Awnsers

the searches you make go directly zango company, so they can go "ZOMG!!! A PORN PERSON" etc

also since I'm lazy, [S-HIGHLIGHT]what does running the .bat file do[/S-HIGHLIGHT]?

This is basically what it is and what it does:
[assistance=Batch File (.Bat)]"A batch file is a text file that contains a sequence of commands for a computer operating system. It's called a batch file because it batches (bundles or packages) into a single file; a set of commands that would otherwise have to be presented to the system interactively from a keyboard one at a time. Batch files allow MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows users to create a lists of commands to run in sequence once the batch file has been executed. For example, a batch file could be used to run frequently run commands, deleting a series of files, moving files, etc. A simple batch file does not require any special programming skills and can be done by users who have a basic understanding of MS-DOS commands."

A good example of a batch file for someone who is more familiar with Windows or the MacOS is to think of a batch file as a shortcut in Windows or an icon on the MacOS. Much like a shortcut, batch files could be used to run one or more commands and/or programs through the command line."

--- It could be harmless. However, there is a possibilty it can do damage. Just be careful.
--- Theres a better possibility that it is used to run (start-up) the "game".
[/assistance]

I wouldn't download it if I were you. I had Zango installed on my laptop before, it took it out completely, had to do a clean reinstall and everything. Before you install ANYTHING, I would suggest checking the site's credibility; Firefox has an automatic system that will notify you if the site is a suspected forgery; McAfee has a nice system set up called SiteAdvisor. You can go to the site and type in the address for the site, and it will tell you if its good or not. They even test downloads, links to other sites, cookies, and pretty much everything else within the site. They also provide a nice plugin download that will work on Internet Explorer and Firefox, and when installed, it provides a nice button that's color reflects the site you are on, hence, since I'm on PokéCommunity right now, its green, as we all know that PokéCommunity is a safe site, period. I know there are several other systems just like that, but I have yet to try any of them.

Thanks, lol. All in all, any virus protection software is all that counts. A firewall and virus scan should be mandatory, though. As for what to get, I personally recommend McAfee. Its never failed me yet.

Yes I know what a bat file is and what it can do, I was talking about the bat file included in the download from that site

Anyone with half a brain with computer knowledge knows that mcafee is the worst antivirus, hell even AVG Free does a better job

I did download it but I scanned it and it said virus so i didn't install it.
And which antivirus did you scan it with? I've scanned it with several different av's and it was harmless

If you are saying you want to know what that specific .bat will do, I already explained that:

Me said:

Either that or it runs commands and scripts for the "game".

You weren't very clear on that.

Yea, Zango isn't nice ^^ lol. I am a witness, I installed it, not knowing it was a fake. ..... Well it's gone now, but I can't believe ppl are going through so much trouble to attack ppl's computers lol.

The website that is give is a fake, this is the real website for Pokemon Online.
https://www.pokemonworldonline.net/index.html
The owner told everyone to avoid that fake site on the front page. So maybe the moderators will have to change that Sponsored Link the the correct website or remove it so young kids don't click on it thinking its real.

if that web site is paying PC then they can't just redirect people to the real site, that would problay be breaking a contract or something.

I think this is what's killing PC.

Zango is Safe!

In the above post Zango is listed as a threat.
We would like to correct this listing.

Zango is a safe and secure program and is tested daily to make sure it is always safe.

We are certainly aware of the ever-growing number of harmful applications that have surfaced on the Web.
Please be assured that Zango, unlike such applications, will always make the user's privacy our top priority. Zango is a safe and secure program which installs only upon user's download and does nothing without the user's consent.

Following are some clarifications on the function of Zango's software:

1. Zango does not build personal profiles.
2. Zango does not gather any data you enter in online forms.
3. Zango does not access any sensitive information entered while surfing, such as account details, passwords, credit card information, products you purchase online, etc.
4. Zango's installation does not install any third party applications. In addition, Zango can be installed only through a standard download process initiated by the user from Zango's websites and is easy to uninstall.

Unfortunately, it appears that some scanning applications have mistakenly included Zango on their lists. We are aware of this situation and our legal team is contacting these companies in order to be removed from their lists.

Zango works with various partner sites. This means that when a site owner partners with Zango, the site offers content for free and the content on this site requires downloading Zango first.
Once Zango is installed, you will have free access to all Zango related items without having to download Zango again.

Zango is a user friendly program, and it is of paramount importance to us that our program will function properly and will be easily installed and removed.
As in common practice among on line companies, Zango can be removed from the computer via Add or Remove programs (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove programs), you may use our uninstaller and you may also use the uninstall instructions we offer under the Zango component in the program's list.
Following this procedure, Zango and all Zango related components will be completely removed from your computer.

To remove Zango from your computer, please do the following:

1. Close all open applications/programs/windows
2. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
3. Find Zango on the list
4. Click the Change/Remove button
5. Check the components you wish to remove, click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Restart your computer

Alternatively, you can use our uninstaller which can be found under Zango's FAQ's at our site.

Yeah, okay "Zango Support", we believe you... NOT!

okay, it has been like a month, but i still see that ad up... why don't they just contact Zango about the so called "contract" and put the REAL rpg ad up? :/ wouldn't that make sense instead of other people who aren't involved in this arguing about something so outrageously stupid? i know they're getting money out of the deal, but if PC really cared about it's members, it would, um, maybe DO SOMETHING! but i guess we really can't blame PC for this. they were unaware and fell right into the trap. So just as pokemonmaster_41 said, PROVE IT YOU FAKES!!!! This is madness!

This is madness!

The thread was posted July 23rd. Hardly a month I would say.
