I have had a new idea for a fan game. It is about a reigon in which their is a civil war between the East and West. Then you get drafted into the army for the side you choose. Instead of gym leaders you have to take over enemy military forts. The elite four and the champions could be four generals and 1 leader. Say your thoughts on the new idea.

    So the maybe-war before red/blue?

Could be interesting, but it's not really how I see the pokemon 'spirit'

As djonn said, it doesnt sound like an adventure as what pokemon is supposed to be...

so instead what if this war happened all in the background? like you would hear all these stories of this war but wouldn't pay much attention to it because you were out adventuring and having fun.

but slowly you'd be shown how this war is affecting peoples' lives, and halfway through the game you'd have to pick a side. of course you would still be going to new towns and stuff, but that decision you made also affected certain storyline elements. Like some towns hate you, some adore you, and even the gym leaders change aggressiveness towards you.

fast forward to pre-elite four. your all pissed off and stuff because all you wanted was to have a carefree life but the freaking continent is all mad at each other. not just that, it seems that the leaders of opposing sides got their legendaries too. you are a hero and a villian, using pokemon as weapons. you notice that and realize they're suffering and blah blah blah.

and so what happens now is you try to destroy both sides physically, because your an outcast now. your now a hero of the people and the pokemon, but not the legendaries. they are the god of war and the god of triumph, created from the imaginations of long ago.

now your fighting 2 people on each side who are the "elite four". you are sure enough to win now! but as sudden as your victory comes both armies team up to rid of you, the threat that is stopping them from conquering the land. so the last battle is obviously a forced double battle.

"but its not over yet" you hear. it seems a third legendary has heard of the great task you've placed on yourself,(and after his "you gotta prove to me your the stuff" speech), the god of peace joins your brigade. you battle and win with the pokemon and townspeople cheering you on. both armies eventually disappear and leave your land alone forever.

now its postgame. all the words of you being a hero quiet down. the legendaries runaway sans the god of peace. what he tells you to do now is help reform the towns and bring back all the people, pokemon, etc. so what you'll be doing postgame is just little story quests to help out a bit, (and bringing in some far-region pokemon!).

thats all I can think of for now :D

I actually really like the idea of setting a Pokémon game in wartime; I don't think it has to be East-West, but two factions with reasonable grievances using Pokémon to fight and gain influence seems plausible to me. I mean, if we can talk about animal abuse, slavery and world domination, why not simple war? The opportunity for switching out Gym Leaders for important figures in either side's forces seems cool too. I don't think you need a dichotomy though, simply encountering pros and cons to both sides throughout the game would work fine methinks.

I'll take that idea into consideration. I've already started on making the fakemon, and almost done with the story. And yeah I can see why that "Dichotomy" idea would rough the game a bit, but I'm definitely adding a "morals" system.

The morals system would start at 0, and events would either raise it or drop it lower. Then at the midway point,(where you're recruited), you would be forced to join a side based on your moral being a positive/negative number. This would also affect what some people say and events occurring.

I have no idea what the gym leaders should be though. If I make them notable figures from war, it would kinda be copying Pokemon Conquest. If anyone can suggest ideas, I'm open to hear them.

The pokedex, so far, is made up of fakemon, for example:

    (crap I can't post pictures? https://puu.sh/13XXg )
I'm trying my best to make them designed like gen1-3, where it isn't a color fest of body paint like recent generations and other fakemon,(no offense). The Pokedex will have 150-ish of these guys and post-game will have about 150-ish old generation pokemon available, because adding all of them would be a hassle.

    and I feel like I'm stealing char83's idea :P

A morals system; so one side's evil, the other's good? You do recognize this would compel players to play either completely "evil" or completely "good" right? This in order to get the highest contrast and see all the story elements in the game with two play-throughs. Not so much a moral choice as a narrative one in practice I would expect to develop. It wouldn't be my choice.

I can't add to the other paragraphs, sooo I'll leave it at that.

Huh. Strange, this is still open. Anyway, if you have an idea for a game, you can make a thread for it in the Beginner's Showcase, from which you need to be sure you follow the rules there first before posting in it. Soon we'll open a thread about general discussion and ideas for games in this section. But for now, I'm going to close this.

    Locked.
