3rd Gen New to pokemon got a gba

^ Have to agree that Emerald is a great option, especially if you haven't played the Third Generation Pokemon games before. Emerald combines the best of Ruby and Sapphire, and adds a bunch of new stuff as well.

If you played the original games, then FireRed or LeafGreen are definitely worth a look, too. Not only do they have the nostalgia of following the original games' story, but new features and areas are added to it as well, giving you a little bit extra to keep you busy!
 
I'd definitely suggest FireRed or LeafGreen, they offer you a taste of the originals but as Brendino stated there is no areas and features to spice it up. But without a doubt you have to get Emerald, it's the best Pokemon game ever imo.
 
I would agree that Emerald is one of the best. I have played Ruby and Sapphire before and you really will notice some imrpovements in the Emerald.

If you've never played pokemon games before, I'd recommend starting with Fire Red or Leaf Green, since those are updated remakes of the original games. They will be a great introduction to pokemon and then you can move on to Emerald which is my favorite.
 
Emerald has that great spice, so go ahead and enjoy! Pokemon Firered/Leafgreen offer you a taste of the original games with better post-game content! I suggest you go for Emerald! Great storyline, lots of post-game content and has one of the best generation of Pokemon! If you need any help with certain Pokemon or progress trouble don't hesitate to message me! (Although they are mostly found on the net, don't hesitate!)

I'm actually going to go with Metroid Fusion. One of the best advanced games hands down, no contest. Oh... you wanted Pokémon? Alright then, Pokémon Leaf Green will set you right. I didn't particularly enjoy Generation III at all.

I would recommend Final fantasy 5 though it's kind of rare and most places that sell it are trying to rip you off Other than all of that stuff it's an awesome game and kind of hard later on if i remember correctly.
 
For a Pokemon game, try Sapphire. For a non Pokemon game, try Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories.
