4th Gen New to pokemon kind of..

Hey, I just bought a DS lite to play this pokemon game. I haven't played pokemon since the original silver version on the GBA. I still have all my GBC and GBA pokemon games, will I be able to import pokemon from those games onto this game? Sorry, I'm not really sure how it all works since I'v never used a DS before.

you can only import from the gba ones not the gbc ones. after you get the national pokedex in HGandSS.It gets you access to pal park where you can insert your gba game into the gameboy slot and then choose the 6 pokemon to import then you go around pal park andf catch them.theres no time limit so you can take your time catching them.But you wont be able to bring them back to your gba game once imported

Well, you won't be able to import your GBC Pokemon to the DS, but you can do it with your GBA Pokemon once you beat Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and have access to Pal Park, but when you do transfer GBA Pokemon using Pal Park, you can only do it once a day. The great thing about HG and SS is, you can transfer as many times as you want as long as you get the ones you previously transferred over. You'll also need the National Dex, as well, which you get from Professor Oak.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the original Silver wasn't on the GBA. You can transfer from Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, like everyone said.

Oh well then I guess I won't be transfering because I only have Silver, Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Yea, sorry about that, friend. There's nothing wrong with starting anew. It could lead to something awesome and refreshing. That's usually what I do until later on.

And FireRed/LeafGreen as well. But yeah, 2nd gen games can't trade/migrate with 3rd/4th gen respectively due to changed game mechanics and so forth since then.
