So it's not too often that they switch up the type effectiveness chart. Only twice - when new types were introduced - have they done that. We can quickly review the changes:

    (Gen 1 to Gen 2-5)
    - Ghost had no effect on Psychic, then changed to being super effective against Psychic
    - Bug and Poison were super effective against each other; Poison now resists Bug while doing regular damage to Bug-type Pokemon
    - Ice went from dealing normal damage to Fire to being not very effective
    - Dark and Steel types were added

    (Gen 2-5 to Gen 6)
    - Fairy type added
    - Ghost and Dark went from being not very effective against Steel to dealing regular damage

So it's unprecedented for changes to be made without a new type, but who's to say it won't happen? I've been speculating that the type selections of Primarina, Decidueye and Incineroar may be similar to the selection of Greninja, Chesnaught and Delphox. While it's probably unlikely, maybe they changed it to where Ghost now deals super effective damage against Fairy type Pokemon. While I think this would be neat I do see the issues with doing this, as it would bolster Ghost types and nearly make Dark obsolete as an attacking type.

What do you think? Do you think this (or other changes in type matchups) could occur?

It seems pretty balanced to me as-is right now, the most powerful type has been nerfed since Gen 6 so unless they introduce new types - which we definitely would have heard about by now - I can't imagine any additional changes.

Probably won't change from how it was in gen VI. I presume the reason why it was changed again in the first place was because of the addition of the Fairy-type.
