New ways to play [added more:sudden death + legendary mode]
I was just reading over the official variations for battling and decided to make my own.
Maybe someone's already made or done something like this, but I thought I'd post anyway.
Speed Match
-20 card deck
-Start with every card in your hand
-No prizes/deck
-Only lose when you have no pokemon left
-The rest of the game is just the same.
Here are some extra rules you can use if the regular game is too uneven, hard or easy(I have no clue how it will turn out). Feel free to mix and match:
Easy Mode:
[ ]You may attach as many energies as you want per turn.
[ ]You may evolve pokemon at any time.
[ ]Pokemon do not need to be evolved.
[ ]Return any discarded energies to your hand.
[ ]Pokemon can not be KO'd on the first turn.
Hard Mode:
[ ]You may only evolve 1 pokemon per turn.
[ ]Before evolving any pokemon, you must flip a coin. Tails returns to hand.
[ ]Before attaching any energy, you must flip a coin. Tails returns to hand.
Super Hard:
[ ]You must flip a coin before putting a pokemon on your bench. Tails returns to hand.
[ ]Before evolving any pokemon, you must flip a coin. Tails sends to discard pile.
[ ]Before attaching any energy, you must flip a coin. Tails sends to discard pile.
Super Uber Leet Killer Mode:
[ ]Before playing any card (aside from your first active pokemon) you must flip a coin. Tails sends to discard pile.
[ ]When ever the game is effected by a Pokemon Power or Pokebody, flip a coin. Tails makes the power stop working until the end of the current turn.
[ ]Unless an attack includes the phrase "flip a coin", you must flip a coin before you use it. Tails ends your turn.
No using proxies, this is a trading card game. You must have the card to use it.
If 15 isn't enough, you can try 20 or 25.
The entire game is based around your strategy. Playing the same person with the same decks will result in a very similar battle, so try matching many different decks. Don't look at each others decks before you play!
War
-60 card deck
-Each player puts up to 5 active pokemon at once.
-Behind your front line is your "controller" pokemon.
-You must have a controller at all times
-The controller pokemon is essentially benched, but can not be hurt at all by attacks until you have no more pokemon on your front line.
-Each turn you can attack with up to 3 pokemon (but no more than 2 can attack the same one)
-There are no prize cards, but when you KO an opponents pokemon you may draw a card from your deck.
-You can not lose from no deck.
-If an attack says bench pokemon, it affects the front line, not the controller.
-You may switch your controller with one of the front line pokemon, you must pay the retreat cost of the front line pokemon.
-You can play a new basic pokemon as the controller buy switching the current one to the front line.
-the rest of the rules are the same as a regular match
Here are some extra things you can try:
-Multiple energies per turn
-Ceasefire at beginning for a certain amount of turns
-Let players each search there deck for a certain amount of basic pokemon at the beginning
-If you try a double battle war(4 players), make each pokemon only able to hit the pokemon in front of it or diagonal from it.
Sudden Death
Beginning:
-Each player flips over a card.
-If it's a pokemon (basic or evolved), it stays.
-If it's not, discard that card and draw another.
-Repeat until each player has a pokemon.
Each turn:
-Draw a card.
-You must either use it or discard it.
-There are two places on the bench.
-You can only win by losing all your pokemon.
Legendary Mode:
-60 cards + Desired Legendary and Lvl.X(optional)
-Pick a legendary pokemon(you know which ones they are)
-You can still put other legendaries in your deck, but they will not recieve bonuses.
-Put your legendary off to the side face up.
-If your pokemon has a lvl.X, put it under your legendary.
-You can combine this mode with other alterations
Bringing the legendary into play:
-When you attack your opponent pokemon, if you KO it, put a number of damage counters equal to the amount of damage you did over their remaining HP.
-Once the amount of damage counters on your legendary is equal to it's HP, replace your active pokemon with it and remove the damage counters.
-Put your active pokemon on your bench, if your bench is full, shuffle it and all cards attached to it into your deck.
-When your legendary comes into play, add 60 to it's HP.
When your legendary attacks:
-Damage from an attack does 40 more damage than usual (this applies to attacks that multiply also)
-Special conditions that cause damage do +10 each time (poison does -20 between turns)
-Damage added to an attack gets +10 (+10 for each energy becomes +20 for each energy)
-When an attack does damage to a bench pokemon (in addition to attacking the defending pokemon) it does 10 more damage than usual
-Each attack costs one more energy of it's type.
-Legendaries can not be retreated, or put into the deck.
-When a legendary is defeated, put all cards attached to it in the discard pile, and put it facedown next to your deck. This card can not be played again this match.
-When a legendary is defeated, your opponent draws 2 prizes.
-If your legendary has a lvl.X and has half or less HP left, you may play the level x card.
In double battles:
-Each team get's one legendary
-your must both switch out your active pokemon when your legendary is played
In A War:
-You place the legendary in front of (or on top of) the front line, and they can no longer attack OR use 2 bench spaces to put the legendary on the front line
So tell me what you think of them, and try them out if you can and report back.
EDIT: Added 2 more
I'm really anxious to try a double battle war with legendary mode.
