News page and a mobile app

One of the things this site needs is a news page. Somewhere aside from the forums where only the mods can edit/add the news.

Also, this site needs a mobile app.

    Agreed on mobile app.

News as in forum news or as in Pokemon news? I could be down with a forum news page.

We tried a news forum very recently. It was put on the backburner but it's definitely in construction.

No. I'm talking about Pokemon news/highlights.

Oh! What plans do you have to differentiate it from Serebii and Bulbanews? :)

I've never heard of them, but it's a good thing they are there. What this site could do is partner up with one of those, and work together (but as 2 different companies). Those sites can send their users to this one for a forum and this one can send its users to them for the news.

This site would just need to make another section for the news articles, and maybe something that makes a thread for whenever they release an article. Their sites can put something at the bottom of each article and maybe a button linking to this site.

Whenever a new article comes out, this site can e-mail anyone who OK it. The e-mail will link the user to this site (in the news area), and this will bring more eyes to both sites. (Then again, I'm thinking like a business person and I'm not sure if this site is about making money at all)

BTW, as far as the app. I would've offer my services, but I've never made an app for a forum site. However, I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to figure it out. Basically you would just make a browser, and have the app checking the notifications every 15-30 minutes. Whenever it sees a notification, it just vibrates to let the user know. The only problem would be is the amount of time it would take to make the app.

By the way, most established Pokemon news websites already have their own forum. From what we've got in store, I think it's a good compromise - but it's an unfortunate fact that people will naturally think of serebii/other news websites if they're only checking news.

I normally look up news on another website, then come here to discuss it :).

It'd be nice to not have a reason to go to Serebii.

A specific piece of news is usually pretty hard to find because most are consolidated into a single thread.

Maybe it's time the staff consider expanding our purpose.

I'd agree with this. Just because we aren't the go-to place for news doesn't mean we can't be, it just requires some repurposing and dedication.

Again, I don't know how this site is run. But, giving it's run like a good business. Why not try to match and maybe take over the market if all possible. Obviously you have to walk before you run, but the end goal should be to be the best.
If this site was to do it, I would highly suggest being a forum first.

Maybe we could leverage the fact that we are a forum first? Bulbanews and Serebii both have pages without comments or conversation, just news. We could leverage the fact that we are a forum before a main site by either making it a section with each news item as a thread so it can be discussed or news pages with comments, you know?

Oh, as far as the app - it always seems easy until you try to do it, trust me on that one ;)

Nope. There is no point, serrebi, ect have their own sources, and more which take up years to build. PC has always just been a community. We can talk about the new here, which suffices just right. Now I know you said we should partner up? I still don't see the benifets... PC and them already share a bit of a userbase, even serebii himself is a member. Even if we did, why would people check PC for it, or if stopped using them because they helped us make it and they lost views. Doesn't really work.

As for a app, we have one.

Because people already check PC for it. I do, and I know many other users do as well. PC is home to a lot of users. And by home, I mean home. It's where they by default go to, whether they intend to or not.

News is pretty hard to find here. Specific news, that is. Because it's all in a single thread in a forum, and you have to go digging through a thread in order to find it. It isn't in your face and easy to spot.

Also, we don't have an app anymore.
