NIKKO.IDEATOR'S TILEMAKING AND BACIC LINGUISTIC SKILLS ASSISTANCE THREAD.
Just kidding about the second part. This thread was requested by my friend Fudgy on my sprite thread, which is on my siggy.

    INTRODUCTION
Welcome to my thread. This is basically a tutorial where you can learn how to make ground tiles, "The Nikko Way", and everybody seems to like "The Nikko Way" on my thread.

    GRASS TILES
Grass tiles are the easiest of all tiles to make in my opinion. They make a great base for the rest of your tileset. First, you must pick your color. Grass tiles are devided into four colors:

    Dark Green

    Light Green

    [PokeCommunity.com] Nikko's Tilemaking Tutorial
Cool Dark Green (GameFreak uses this one)

    [PokeCommunity.com] Nikko's Tilemaking Tutorial
    Lime Green

Pick your color, and that will be your base. Next, you must add litte grass blades to your base tile. I'll use the lime green one as an example. Make sure you don't put details on the very edge of the tile.

Not my best work, but it's a good example for the tutorial.

Now you have your base tile. Remember, this is your most important tile.

    TREES

Trees are the most challenging tiles to make in your spriteset, but also the most important. Now first, you must decide how many tiles big you want your border tree to be.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Nikko's Tilemaking Tutorial
One-tile trees: Not common for borders, but make great gap-fillers for the more "empty" of maps.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Nikko's Tilemaking Tutorial
Vertical trees: Only a column of tiles, no rows involved. Don't use them as borders, as they don't blend well together.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Nikko's Tilemaking Tutorial
Big trees:Usually borders, and use columns as well as rows.

Now it's time to make your own tree. Let's begin with a 2-tile vertical tree.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Nikko's Tilemaking Tutorial
As you can see, I made the outline of the tree. It's a crappy outline, that will probably end up being a crappy tree, but at least it will be good for the tutorial.

See? Now I created a pallete for the bark. Actual brown is always a good color for bark, but alternatively, you can use monotone purple-gray thing, like the trees in the example section.

Now the sprite is done, with the 6-color palette. It's important that the tree blends good with the palette you're working with. Also, before assembling everything, keep a copy of your tree for the next step.

    SAVE POINT.

Sorry about lack of completion. As you can see, I'm adding on more and more as time goes on. However, my grass tile guide is enough to prevent my thread from being locked. It's moving. I promise.

Sorry for the lack of completion. I have the first part done, so it's enough to prevent the thread from being locked. I'll keep adding on.

i see just about to start the verticle tree tut yey.

He's right. It's about making tiles, which is Pixel Art. Inserting them is ROM Hacking.

fudgy: I finished Regigrass for you! Go check it out on my thread!

lmg123/Demikid: Hey, I haven't talked to you in a while, buddy! I noticed your name was changed! Check out the thread, some time. It's on my signature!

i see i seee it looks better, i think because i was using to many colors it didnt relly match the pokemon theme.

EDIT: as for the tile making i made the shrubs, grass, tree trunk, and one path and my brother deleted them >:| i am verry angry!!!!

No offense, but you really should have written more before posting. This is one of the most incomplete tutorials I have ever read. The only somewhat complete part is the grass, which could use some revising. Try explaining why the grass would look like that, as well as a way of making it transition well with itself. For the trees, well, you need to actually write the tutorial, instead of posting Nintendo's tiles then saying "Now it's time to make your own tree."

Dude. I know, actually, last night, I was insisted by a friend of mine, (No offence, fudgy:laugh:) to do a tutorial. Sorry if it appears inadequate to you, I was working on it last night, but my internet was shut off and it was all deleted. I was so crushed and tired, I drifted off to sleep, forgetting to log off. If I wanted to do it at my leisure, it would not exist now. Would you like for me to post the rest of the trees section, and finish typing it? It'll take a while.

Okay, well, you could at least edit the first post and add what happened. That way people do not go accusing you of posting an incomplete tutorial on purpose.

And I apologize if I sounded a bit harsh.

Dude, you're the legendary Don Patch. I'm not offended at all. I'm serious, though. I've been having a lot of Database errors lately, and they're killing all my edits. Have you had the same?

maybe once your finished with it all, you can make a better tree lol

Alright, first off; that is the ugliest grass tile ever. Just get that off my chest. Whew.
Just so you know in the future, you can't just pick vomit green, put some lines on it, and call it grass. If you ask me, it doesn't look like grass. It looks like vomit green with lines in it. Most usual grass tiles have the standard:

    \|/

Or sometimes dots. Unless you're not making Pokemon styled tiles, you might want to first compare yours to Nintendo's and alter it a bit.

The tree is also shaded incorrectly. You shaded it the way you would shade a trainer or Pokemon sprite, which is incorrect. It looks 2d your way, but if you look at the way Nintendo, it shades it.. Hard to describe, but they shade with the light source either on top (For Fr/Lg) or in front (For RSE). Again, unless you weren't doing it Pokemon styled, this means the tree is vastly incorrect as well.

I suggest you read a few tutorials, work on your tiling, work with Don Patch a lil', then maybe do your own tutorial :]
