Nintendo DS Lite Problem

Well, I bought my pre-owned Nintendo DS Lite from EB Games (Australia) about two weeks ago. Along with that I bought a brand new Pokémon Soul Silver game with it.

It was working alright for the first couple of days, until one night, I was playing my DS, and it freezed up. No button was working, no touch screen, nothing. So, I turned it off.

When I rebooted it a couple of seconds later the DS would not recognize the game. Then, I turned it off, took the card out and inspected it for dust or other things. There was nothing.

When I tried it again, (put the card back in and booted it) it would still not recognize the game. So I did the method as said in the last paragraph.

I tried a different game; a Spyro game I have had for a while, and it worked. I played it for a while, and it didn't seem to freeze up. I tried the Pokémon game again, and it worked.

I have read over the internet that this is caused by little needles in the cartridge that have broken and can't read the games, or the golden/silver strip running across the game card has bended and can't be read by the DS.

Hey Lo Creep,

Well the good thing is, it doesn't sound like the problem is the system itself. It sounds more like your SS has gotten slightly damp somehow, have you kept it in its case? This happened to all of my DS games a while ago, some of them work fine, some you have to constantly retart and freeze (like yours) and some just don't work at all. I'd recommend putting the game in direct sunlight for a few hours, even though the manual says you shouldn't, it may fix it. If that doesn't work, then you'll just have to replace the game, since it's a Pokemon one it can be really frustrating when it freezes.

If you can do it without damaging the sticker, you can tape a piece of paper onto the back of the card, which should push the pins onto the DS, if they aren't making contact. Transfer your pokemon if this works, and get a replacement under warranty.

Well, I'm going to take this DS back and replace it. I know it's not the game's fault, because I tried my Diamond and I keep that in my case all the time. It's the DS.

A soft bristle toothbrush or the little brush that comes with hair clippers or a beard trimmer works fine for the game's contacts. As for the DS itself, a couple short blasts of air into Slot 1 should help.
