Eager Pokémon fans anxious to taste the first proper DS games in the series may be wondering how long it will be until the new duo arrives. If the latest information out of Nintendo's American arm is anything to go by, they could be in for a wait.

Nintendo said this week that Pokémon Diamond and Pearl would be out for the DS in North America on 22 April. Tack on a few months for localisation and Europeans could find themselves waiting until summer to see what the fuss is about.

And there is a lot of fuss. The new instalments in the decade-old series have sold nearly 4 million copies in Japan, bolstering the already impressive momentum of the DS.

There are questions about how complete the game will be when it arrives here. Wired points out that the press released for the US version of the game goes to pains not to mention anything to do with online play, which is included in the Japanese editions. Despite the omission, Nintendo told Kikizo that it is "a full WiFi game".

Nintendo will be keeping a keen eye on importers after Easter. Previous Game Boy Advance editions have been too popular with some ardent fans for Nintendo's liking, resulting in the company threatening local importers if they continued to sell it. With a rabid fanbase not satisfied with the piecemeal Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon games for Game Boy Advance and DS, there's every chance that the proper DS instalments could be a big hit before they officially arrive. Nintendo is prepared.

"We in no way condone the importing of games into territories other than where they are supposed to be sold," Nintendo's Robert Saunders told Kikizo.

"As in the past, if deemed necessary we will issue cease and desist letters to retailers whom we know are selling imported games not intended for sale within the EEA. Nintendo rigorously protects its worldwide trademarks and in doing so ensures fair play in the market for all retailers."

*tsk* Do they think that will stop us from importing, if anything they should release D/P in america and the UK at the same time.

I will import anyway, Nintendo can shut up. Fair play in the market isnt the point, because it will be highly likely that we in the UK will have to wait till next winter, summer if we are lucky jut for D/P, Nintendo always release pokemon games way later then America and I am sick of it.

    Discuss.

... Does anyone have any idea when the games will reach New Zealand? Is New Zealand even on the list of countries the game is being sent to?! I'm freaking out now. -hyperventilates-

    And ... I'm better. Okay, but seriously. It probably won't even come out here until, like, November or something ... And then I'll probably have to wait until my birthday to get it. >.< I NEED TO GET TO AMERICA. I HAVE TO BUY IT. ;-;

Tsk, it's pretty much a given. And consider yourself pretty dumb, because you won't be able to trade and battle locally with other DSs if you import.

It don't matter to me i imported back in october

It's Nintendo's own fault that a lot of Europeans feel forced to import from America because they could be left waiting for months on end. And for those in the UK, the wait is for pretty much nothing, a few gameplay tweaks and a different coloured case and that's pretty much it. Unless Nintendo announces a European release date of within 6 weeks of the American one, which is highly doubtful given their past record with Pokemon, then I will be buying it on eBay and I wont feel an ounce of remorse either.

For the way the topic was worded I thought something was wroug with the games, like the bad batteries for laptops that actually burned people o.o. But pokemon USA/UK just does not want to lose money...

yah. shame nintendo for trying to hide their own wrongdoings by blaming the consumer. if anything, they should be worrying about emulation development rather people importing their games.

and umm i don't think they're really concerned about the players at all, but they are worried about non-American retailers. after having lost considerable business in China due to the ban, Nintendo is trying its best to act like it actually cares for retailers. it's one thing to blame it on those who actually STEAL your merchandise and infringe on the copyright law, but to blame those who actually are fans... and BUY your product... wow, really low.

I have just ordered Pokémon Diamond and it will be imported soon. It's good to have the japanese version isn't it, or should I have waited for the US version? It's still possible to import games, or are they going to forbid it? Nintendo will lose money on this, since they prevent you from buying some games, so I don't understand why they don't like when people import. I have to buy Pokémon Battle Revolution later, but I don't have a Wii to play games from both Japan and America. I will be able to import Battle Revolution later, or what is going to happen?

so basically they've banned importing D/P?
but i've already pre-ordered it for import and i'm in the UK, whats gonna happen to that then? will be order be cancelled or what?

    OHCRAP.

-holds the word 'no' for a few long minutes-

I hope this doesn't mean I can't get it all the way here in the Middle East! I'm DYING for this game! I hope the Middle East is on the list of places for the game to go to. D= T_T

I want to import it because it takes forever to come out here, even though it's in the same language! I've been waiting long enough for this game anyway. :P No-one else will have the game where I live anyway so local trading/battling isn't important to me.

Because I live in Finland, it's going to be in English in here, too. Why can't they just translate them straight from Japanese to German, French, etc.? That would speed up the release, but no, they wait for it to release in the US. -_-

    Quoted for Truth.

I don't want to get sued though.

either way, you wouldn't be the one to get sued if they're at all serious about this. it'd be those smaller importing firms that relentlessy distrubute products.

    Oh My GOSH!

Nintendo are just retarded now. I mean like denying UK importers of there game is only going to get the UK guys interest lost in the game, therefore lower income. So I dont understand were they are getting it from.

And Pokemon Mystery Dungeon sold badly because it was ****! One of the worst games and anime ever.

I'm still importing cause couldnt give a ducking famn about what Nintendo think. eBay ftw!

I seems to me that Nintendo is violating free-trade laws with this statement.

I think they may have issued this warning a ~little~ bit late. They should have issued this back in September when the game was released if they wanted to cut back on importing...Oh well, I got mine from Lik-Sang before the store got closed down. ^3^

    Dang, lucky i'm American :p

But I do feel sorry for the Fans in Europe, they should be able to import freely, there's no law against it right.

And if anyone from NoE is reading this very post, I suggest you worry about emulation. because at least some people get money from importing. Playing DP ROMS cost ABSOLUTLY NOTHING!!

And speaking of ROMs, if People that know nothing about ROMs are reading this and noticed they can be DLed for no price at all, DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO DO IT!! IF YOU DO DO IT, NINTENDO WILL HUNT YOU DOWN LIKE THE DAMN, DIRTY LAWBREAKER YOU ARE!!

    I rest my Case.

You do know that you can keep you roms if you have the original game. So one wouldn't be breaking any law...

Anyway, DS roms are not even supported, so why bother? =D

Well, personally, I would rather wait until it is released in Europe or there's a release date so I can pre-order it, I mean, it is stupid that after they've came out in America they take probably months to come out in Europe or the UK, I mean, the UK should get it the same time as the US, they speak the same language for god sake, and well, I really do think they should take less time to translate it, I mean, months just to translate the game.. what they should do, is just release it with one language on the cart in relation to where it's sent. Like the UK should only have the English language selectable, Italy should only have Italian selectable, I mean, what English person in their right mind would use another language other than their first language to play the game anyway? We don't need 4 or more different languages on one game.. if the person lives in the UK they would know English, there is no need for the other languages, that's what I think.. screw releasing them with 4 languages, just release them with one solo language, translate them and release them after they're translated everywhere else.
