There are some suggestions that perhaps instead of HMs different Pokémon are just naturally capable of certain things in the over-world.

For example you can use Surf by default on most Water pokemon.

No, HMs are like a 'key' to going to another town. So it's like a requirement if you're talking about games like RPGs.

Though I want to have HMs easily removed. ;;
