I think their just acting out. They want to be noticed. I mean they haven't since Vietnam.

which is what Im saying. I think they might have done that to be a part of the war, or for the war to continue so more Americans will die.

...thats really messed up if its true, but what am I talking about? Im just a 14 year old with an idea!

o.O

North Korea=/=Vietnam.

And no, this isn't a bid for attention. It's a power grab and a none-too-subtle (though entirely impractical and everyone, including Kim Jong Il knows it) threat. North Koreas couldn't launch missle one without being turned into a glowing pile of glass by AT LEAST the US and China, very probably a number of other nations as well. What this is to North Korea is a colossal waste of money with the side effect of possibly galvanizing their people and improving morale.

Omfgosh! I thought that it was a joke, but now I believe everything I read in the paper. :>

This is seriously scary. Does anyone here know when they are going to test it?

The reason why the Americans and North Korea are such enemies, is because Korea is not a part of the group of Nations that agrees, "Okay, we have missles, but we'll use them wisely and nicely." ~.~

I may be wrong, but the news has mentioned something about "days". Then again, I could be wrong. I read the news from Yahoo. I'm hoping that they won't go through with the missile, and it is very likely that they won't. Even N. Korea's allies are turning against the decision.

expected consequence

This is what happens when you have politicians preaching globalization and forcing everyone to bow down to it. (of course, those of yous who believe that 9-11-01 was caused by lack of foreign entanglements rather than from too many will probably pitch otherwise.)

Thank heavens that I like in Alabama not so near to were those Koreans missle(s),might reach me.Why don't we just make a missle that would kill them instead, even though it would be rude of us Americans to kill other people, but how cares anyway. All because we hav Freedom and Religion, and Koreans don't.Instead of killing use why not tell there president that they have the rights to get Freedom and Religion.Problem Solved.

If we ever die we would have haunt them for the rest of there lifes,Then they'll be sorry to ever kill us all

To be honest, the whole world has a right to be scared of North Korea.

Kim Il Jung is a nutcase! He wears platform shoes and dresses like Elvis, then forbids the country from doing the same! But with his power, it's no wonder the goverment (if any) hasn't declared him insane and removed him from power.

Of course, we're developing a missile to meet the other one and detonate it in mid-air so it never reaches us.
Still, that doesn't mean that this could return us to Cold War mentality - M.A.D. - or Mutually Assurred Destruction - which is that if one of us attacks the other, they'll counter-attack and then both contries will be destroyed in the end.

To continue where Ozy left off:

North Korea = Korean War
Vietnam = Vietnam War

I'm honestly baffled as to how you can mix them up, but ah well. XD

Well technically it would be the US OR China, seeing as I doubt China would back the USA up.

I actually find it funny that so many people get worked up over a new bomb. Many countries have the technology, and have had it since the Cold War. My opinion is somewhat bias, being part of a country that doesn't have a bomb (or any other type of military strength. XD) but it's my opinion nonetheless.

And I'm laughing so hard at the person who said N. Korea was just jealous of the USA...

First of all, I have difficulty taking an opinion seriously when the opinion is stated in such poor english that it is hard to read. I won't go in to grammar corrections, as the actual content of the post makes me much more angry.

The US should NOT make a missle to just kill of North Korea. Yeah, that's going to solve all the problems. I can see it now...

The White House said:
"Mr. President, the North Koreans are getting closer to creating a nuclear bomb! An H-bomb! What do we do?"

"Call in our technicians! We're going to blow those Koreans out of the water!"

The UN and the rest of the world said:
"OUTRAGE! BLASPHEMY!"

"An unprovoked attack on a country with the same technology as them, AND the same technology as pleanty of other countries!"

"GET THE US!"

The USA said:
*explodes*

Also, having the freedom *OF* religion has absolutly nothing to do with why North Korea has started the missle program. Absolutly nothing. Attempting to make that comparison would be like comparing Graham Crakers and Sweedish Fish. It just doesn't work.

That, and I believe that if North Korea or ANY country really actually wanted to nuke the US, Alabama wouldn't be safe. If we were REALLY on a nuke list somewhere, nowhere would be safe. Not even the midwest. (i.e. ND, SD, MN)

There's my two cents. *looks around* Dang... I've only got one... so here's an IOU, too!

China, despite its idealogical ties with North Kora would indeed back the US up if the Koreans provoked the attack. It is because of China's most-favored-nation trading status with America that the Chinese have become so economically powerful of late and they don't want to lose that economic influence if it can be avoided.

However, if the US provoked the attcack, as several have implied (though not directly stated) we might/should, the Chinese would have no qualms about reucing the United States to a small pile of rubble. Nor would much of the rest of the world. Neither the US nor North Korea can do anything, no matter how many missles are in their posession.

And to end on a humorous note: I live in the NORAD state! Motto: "We can't attack, we can't defend, but we can tell you what the hell's coming!" YAY for being a priority target! :P

North Korea launches missiles

Not sure what to think, North Korea doesn't have too many strong countries backing it at last check. So, I hope no one does anything stupid, otherwise, welcome to the end of the world...or at least a good chunk of Asia and North America.

The way I look at this now is that North Korea wants a little bit of attention because the US has been pouring their attention on Iran lately. I just thought of that a while ago... and since North Korea's leader is such an idiot attention seeker, I'm sure he did that just get the US' attention again...

I honestly doubt North Korea would actually go to war with the US, with the weapons they have.

The ICBM blew up 42 seconds into flight, not great for them but something they can learn from. The US had there Limited ICBM intercept system ready to blow it out of the air as a test. The system prob would not have worked anyway...thank god it didn't have to be tested.

you know there may be some truth in this but..... a lot of it is added on by the media, they're like a idiotic circus sometimes, it may be nothing but rumors or there could be truth to it. In my opinion the news media was just looking for something to put in the paper, they probaly added a lot of fluff to the story. Also as some of you have already said, if they do fire anything the U.S. won't be to happy and they WILL no they BETTER do something. But really, logically they probaly won't launch and if they do we WILL jump into action......and all this coming from a 12 year old!!!!!!!! But seriously the media probaly added a lot of nonsense to the story!!!!

*blinks*

N. Korea's ICBM/missle project is nothing but a colossal money sink. It's worthless to spend our money fighting it. Assuming we did start a war, it would be nothing but detrimental to the U.S. Not only would it waste out money and lives, but our military is spread too thin as is AND we would risk straining relations with China at a MINIMUM. That would have a horrific impact on out economy. At worst, we would start a war with China because of some misguided effort to protect our own interests. That is a conflict that would begin as a ground war. When it developed into a war of attirition (something the U.S. has NO chance of winning against China), it turns to nuclear warfare. Then, the principle of mutually-assured destruction takes over. Warfare is not the solution. What is? Simply keeping an eye on the situation. Otherwise, it's a non-issue.

If North Korea can send a missile and hit somewhere in the US then I'd have to give them a hand. Not only did their test make them look stupid, sort of like...
"Hey we're going to hit this US Battleship out there! *Fires missile* *Blows up 42 seconds after launch*. Oh crap, can you please move your ship closer? Our missile won't make it all the way out there to where you're at."
(I know that's not what happened, but you get the point)
But now everyone is pissed off at them.
Why would I give them a hand? Well because for right now they could make a car fly farther then what that thing did. And the US has all sorts of stuff to take missiles down (and they track everything). So North Korea would have to go from making a missile last 42 seconds to hitting somewhere in the US. Yea, that's going to happen real soon....
And they wouldn't get anywhere by striking the US. If they happen to hit the US then within a short time North Korea would be a smoking hole in the ground (our Subs have enough nukes on them that they could take out North Korea and nothing would be left).

All I got to say is, goo luck North Korea, maybe this test stuff will help feed your people!
