This was going to be a thread about why we think the Jennis and Joys all look the same, but Pokemon Amino made the idea ridiculous, so I'm going to try something else.

To us, the audience, of the anime, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny look exactly the same. They all are apparently related to one another, and the only one who can tell them apart is Brock, and of course eachother. We know Brock is pretty much in love with ever Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny in existence. Too bad Pokemon is a kid's show, so he can't get his way with them, not that I ship it at all. Now, for the thread topic, of course... just what does Brock see in them? What do you honestly think he sees in Officer Jenny/Nurse Joy enough to have flirted with almost every single one until he left in Sinnoh? I also want to know what your opinion is on that running gag where Brock flirts with any "pretty" woman he sees. Did you think it was annoying? Etc.

To be honest; I found the gag to be tiresome midway through the first generation. While it does provide some comic relief from time to time for the show itself, I always felt like the gag itself was a crutch on which the Anime leaned upon to be funny.

Not saying that it isn't funny to see Croagunk, Max or Misty drag Brock off of whatever female he's swooning over, but it's kind of stupid at times, and it does interrupt and break the flow of the story considerably at times during the episodes.

Now regarding the whole Jenny/Joy thing...I just feel like it's how they get out of creating a new officer/nurse for every incident/Pokemon Center. It's yet another annoying crutch that I'd like to see the anime grow out of; but at the same time, it's also a very comforting thing to see. Like really comforting. So I can kind of see why they do it; you should want to trust Jenny/Joy with your life so to speak. They do this rather effectively by looking the same across the board...across all regions. In the end they do provide some anchor point...and become a bit of a running gag at the same time.

It's no secret that Jenny/Joy has been a gag running since the first generation, and it's a subtle one, but a good one...since it usually underscores that there are things that the anime itself glosses over, and subtly reminds you that This is just a kid's show after all and that you shouldn't be too hard on it.

If you're watching Pokemon and expecting the quality and depth of CLAMP, SHAFT or Peach Pit stories; then you're watching the wrong anime.
