This is pretty much a continuation from this thread seeing as the current BC doesn't discuss it and I think we could benefit from talking about things that work in the forum that is meant to discuss it :]
CORES
In my experience, Synergy is one of, if not the most important thing that a team needs to have competetively. If the team doesn't pull towards a specific goal, but are literally just 6 random pokemon slapped together, then you cannot expect it to perform at all. Reversely, if you have a strategy and the pokemon you have chosen cover each other, you will have an easier time against anything and your performance will be smooth and consistent.
So this thread is meant to post the things that DO work - what is commonly called a "core". For those unfamiliar with the term, in Pokemon a "Core" usually refers to the 2-3 pokemon that a team is built around, that cover each others weaknesses and that are able to take on a lot of threats in the metagame by themselves, either by applying offensive pressure or by virtue of resistances and massive defensive stats.
One thing that should probably also be mentioned are Lures, pokemon that would normally be countered by a few specific ones, but that with a change in the moveset suddenly becomes a capable offensive threat to those that frequently switch into you, literally luring them in and clearing the way so something with similar checks/counters so it can sweep.
I'll get us started with a neat little offensive core that I'm currently using.
Landorus-T's double boosting set is extremely powerful, but it takes a bit of time for it to set up and it still struggles to ko its normal counters if they are not softened up - so things like Gliscor, Hippowdon, Skarmory and opposing Landorus-T have few issues stopping it dead in its tracks. Mamoswine and Donphan can also pretty handily revenge kill it with Ice Shard.
Jirachi attracts most of these by virtue of its typing and being mainly physically based, but it has one key underused tool in dispatching of all of these - Doom Desire. A Modest Life Orb Doom Desire hits all of these rock hard - 2 turns after using it.
252+ SpA Life Orb Jirachi Doom Desire vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Hippowdon: 355-419 (84.52 - 99.76%) -- 43.75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Jirachi Doom Desire vs. 248 HP / 0- SpD Landorus-T: 364-430 (95.53 - 112.86%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Jirachi Doom Desire vs. 224 HP / 32 SpD Skarmory: 174-205 (53.21 - 62.69%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Jirachi Doom Desire vs. 244 HP / 0 SpD Gliscor: 344-407 (97.72 - 115.62%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Jirachi Doom Desire vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Donphan: 411-485 (107.03 - 126.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
... 252+ SpA Life Orb Jirachi Doom Desire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mamoswine: 821-970 (227.42 - 268.69%) -- guaranteed OHKO
In other words,
1) switch Jirachi into something that you get a free turn on (such as Ferrothorn)
2) Doom Desire
3) U-Turn out on turn 2 and switch in Landorus-T
4) Set up on turn 3 as the counter switches in and gets hit by Doom Desire. 5) Sweep.
(notice how Jirachi also has a lure name to indicate that I'll try to stall them with Iron Head ;D )
Defensively, Jirachi helps Landorus by tanking Ice attacks as they get sent after it more frequently than you can imagine, and in return Landorus absorbs EQ's and CC's that are usually thrown in Jira's direction.
This core has a few issues with Mamoswine and Donphan as they can still easily revenge kill Landorus after it has boosted (assuming they don't switch into DD), so Rotom-W rounds off out by taking on those pokemon as it is immune to their main STAB and resists Ice Shard, as well as being a safe switch-in to most Heatran sets, which otherwise troubles Jirachi and Lando generally doesn't want to switch into. Keldeo is also able to pose problems to it due to it being faster and able to hit everything really hard, but ScarfRotom again makes a decent check for it.
For more examples, This might be worth looking at, for starters.
I'd post more, but I'll leave it up to you. What cores/lures/everything have you found to be successful in the BW2 metagame? Discuss :)

syn·er·gy (snr-j)
n. pl. syn·er·gies
1. The interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.
2. Cooperative interaction among groups, especially among the acquired subsidiaries or merged parts of a corporation, that creates an enhanced combined effect.

Dark Azelf said:→ Lures
A lure is basically a Pokémon that preys on what your opponent expects but does something different to catch them off guard, just as the name says to "lure" them in. What would normally be a great switch in turns into an awful one. Lures are often used on offensive teams to remove threats for other Pokémon on the team to possibly open up a sweep. An example of a lure would be an offensive Suicune with Calm Mind/Surf/Hidden power Electric/Ice Beam with a Life Orb. Normal switch ins to Suicune are often things like Zapdos, Gyarados, Celebi, Vaporeon etc. expecting a defensive normally less offensively threatening set and this Suicune can potentially OHKO all of them. For example if you lure in Zapdos with this set and OHKO it with a Calm Mind Life Orb'd Ice Beam then your Scizor will have a much easier time posing a threat to the opponents team with its primary counter out of the way. Another example of a lure would be a Toxic and Substitute Heatran to "lure" in its normal counters of bulky waters
to cripple them from behind a Substitute with Toxic. For example once a Vaporeon is poisoned things like Gyarados are free to rampage alot easier with its counter crippled.
I'll get us started with a neat little offensive core that I'm currently using.
