Considering FMA airs in the US tonight, I figured it'd be best to start this topic so that all the talk goes here once everyone's seen it. Especially since there's not one FMA topic that's primarily focused on discussion of the series. >.>
Japanese FMA 01 Title: "One Who Challenges the Sun"
American FMA 01 Title: "To Challenge the Sun"
Japanese Airdate: October 04, 2003
American Airdate: November 06, 2004
Synopsis: As children, brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric used the clandestine science of Alchemy to try the unthinkable- resurrect their dead mother. They failed, unleashing an alchemic reaction that ripped their bodies apart. Four years later, Ed and Al are combing the country for a rumored stone that could amplify their alchemy and bring their bodies back to normal. And it appears they may have found it-in a strangely prosperous desert village where a priest controls the citizens with miracles and promissed resurrections.
Seen the English clips and they seem pretty darn good, with the exception of Ed's voice being incredibly wonky. The begining of the episode gives you a slight intro on how things came to be and then shifts to how things are currently. It'll explain what happened in their past in the next few episodes.
