Has anyone noticed how good Magikarp is now???????

It has-

Flail
Dragon Rage


This is better than a Magmar!


What made them have a change of heart on Magikarp though?

I got one which has a 60 damage attack.

The Mysterious Treasures Magikarp is still useless - as are all Magikarp cards. Read the actual text on the MT Magikarp and you'll realise that you've only got a 25% chance of actually doing the 60 damage. That averages to 15 damage per turn, which is hideous.

And Flail can do a maximum of 20 damage. What's even remotely good about that?

Umm...base set karp's Flail was precisely the same as it is now. (1 water for damage equal to 10x the number of damage counters on Magikarp)

And yeah, like Cipher said: Magikarp cards have always been the epitome of fail. D=

Though I must admit, there's a certain fun factor to those few times when Dragon Rage does work. It's still more amusement than usefulness, though, and certainly far inferior to the other basics. (The only one that has ever failed more is base set Porygon. 30 HP, no damaging moves and -- at the time -- no evolutions? Riiiight...)

Some of the old ones are better; Rocket Magikarp searches your deck for a Gyrados, and Giovanni's (I think), from Gym Challenge has a damaging attack (one use only though).
