Isn't Onix oddly light? I mean freakishly light. Its height is almost 9 m and it weighs only 210 kg. I am 1.86 and 70 at least. How can Onix be so light providing his size and the fact that it's made out of rocks? I 've been wondering for years.

Yeah, there are a few phenomenons like that. I think the most commonly referenced one is that Wailord is technically less dense than air :p
I think it's best to dismiss these things as just plain wrong and get on with our lives. Well, unless I see a Wailord using Fly sometime soon. And never coming back down.

Many Pokémon weights as listed in the PokéDex don't make much sense when compared to their heights or the species they are based on. Many other Pokémon are listed as being much heavier than their sizes and form factors would suggest.

I remember having a Pokemon Annual years ago, when GSC was released, and it had a typo saying Cloyster was 1132kg, rather than 132kg.

For years I was captivated by the "heaviest Pokemon" being Cloyster, and wondering how that even worked.

You can even see in the games, Onix is pretty fast for a Rock Type.

Well, there's a variety of rocks out there; some are pretty heavy, and some are light. Maybe Onix's body is made out of the lighter ones? Even if it isn't, I wouldn't be too worried about it. There's a lot of other Pokémon whose weight doesn't make much sense, either. Gourgeist would be a good example. Gourgeist are pretty big, and an averaged-sized one weigh only about twenty-seven pounds. Larger Gourgeist weigh around thirty. Goodra and Emboar would be good examples as well. These two are extremely big and bulky, but their weights? Only three-thirty. d:

Much like Perdition Haze, I've always imagined that Onix was made out of volcanic rock or something, which is very much lighter than other types of rocks. And while Steelix nearly doubles this weight, you could assume that its body is just metal-coated, rather than solid metal.

Trying to come up with reasons why Pokemon like Wailord are as light as they are is a little more difficult though. I can only assume it was assigned its height/weight long after being designed, and not a whole lot of thought was put into the process. This would also explain the unrealistic height/weight proportions of many other Pokemon, too.

For Wailord, maybe, when Wailmer evolves, he inflates, so his insides are mostly air and he's like A GIANT WHALE BALLOON! Thant's the only possibility I can think of.

Yes, yes! Thanks! But that does not answer the weight issue of onix...

Yeah, Onix is considerably light. But in one of it's Pokédex entries, at states that it moves at an incredible rate underground, so it would kinda make sense for it to be light, therefore it can move faster underground. Onix is GIANT in spin-offs/anime so it would make sense if it was heavy, but I have no idea what Gamefreak was thinking there...

Onix's weight is far too unrealistic.
An ordinary rock with a hieght of half a metre weighs that much.

A collection of rocks of that size should weigh around 50000 kg.
