ORAS E4 Team

I'm going to just start by saying I don't really do any EV training in game and I don't breed for IVs.
I'm too lazy so I only do that stuff on Showdown. Moving along.

Normally I just run with whatever my current team is in-game, but I want to try something a bit different this time. That means I won't be taking any legendaries into the E4 and I'll be training specific pokemon I want to use for the E4 (raising more pokemon to higher levels in the process).

At the moment I have something like this planned

Sceptile @Sceptilite

[PokeCommunity.com] ORAS E4 Team

Ability: Overgrow

-Dragon Claw
-Grass Pledge
-Earthquake
-??? (currently Leaf Blade)

Info: Obviously, I would prefer a moveset with Dragon Pulse not Claw, but despite its amazing Sp. Atk it is quite hard to get special moves sorted for Sceptile. So for now I'm having to rely on its decent, but far from amazing, Attack stat. Sceptile is good for neural damage with its Grass STAB and is also useful against Dragon and Water types that are likely to pop up. Currently I'm filling the fourth slot with Leaf Blade, but if there's something better for coverage (especially if it is Special in nature), I'm all ears.

Metagross @Metagrossite

[PokeCommunity.com] ORAS E4 Team

Ability: Clear Body

- Meteor Mash
-Bullet Punch
-Zen Headbutt
-Power-Up Punch

Info: Metagross is really just there to do what Metagross does, be a physical powerhouse with great defence. Power-Up Punch can further boost its great attack whilst also causing some serious damage to Sidney, Phoebe, Glacia and many of Steven's team (although it must also be wary of the former two) and resists Dragon attacks.

Azumarill @???

[PokeCommunity.com] ORAS E4 Team

Ability: Huge Power

-Play Rough
-Aqua Tail
-Bulldoze/Dig
-???

Info: Azumarill is there to kill dragons, dark pokemon and rock-types. Huge Power will double its attack allowing it lay waste to Sidney, Steven and Drake's teams. Aqua Tail is a decent STAB (although I may use Waterfall instead) and Bulldoze/Dig are a nasty surprise for any steel pokemon (and later on any electric-types). I'm not sure what to fill its fourth move slot and item slot with though.

Sharpedo @??? (Will possibly sub in Sharpedonite vs Phoebe)

[PokeCommunity.com] ORAS E4 Team

Ability: Rough Skin

- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- ???

Info: Sharpedo is my main hitter for the battle with Phoebe (bar Azumarill for Sableye). It's in there to pretty much single handedly destroy her team with STAB Crunch. Obviously Speed Boost is a better ability, but I don't want to go to the effort of getting it quite frankly. I need an item for it (perhaps Helmet?) and a fourth move.

Chandelure @???

[PokeCommunity.com] ORAS E4 Team

Ability: Flame Body

-Flamethrower
-Energy Ball
-Shadow Ball
-??? (Currently Will-O-Wisp)

Info: Chandelure is great for messing Glacia up (although it fears Frosslass) and is also a huge threat to Steven. STAB Flamethrower should destroy most of Glacia's team whilst Energy Ball is a useful move for those pesky Ice/Water types she uses. Chandelure is pretty much the bane of Steven's Metagross too thanks to its typing and high Sp. Atk. I do however need an item for it, and a fourth move assuming I shouldn't just keep Will-O-Wisp.

In addition to these guys I have a sixth spot which I'm thinking I'd like to go to a fighting-type or a normal-type... maybe a dragon. Some pokemon I'm considering are Exploud, Snorlax, Hawlucha, Medicham, Goodra and Dragalge (which is already on my current team in ORAS) but I'm open to suggestions. The plan is to have the team all at about level 60 when I battle Steven.

If you haven't beaten the Elite Four yet, then I think your given team covers a lot of types fairly well, what with Azumarill taking care of Sidney and Drake, two answers to Phoebe, and Glacia you have a Fire-type and a Steel-type for. But if I had to choose a last slot, I think i'd use Exploud, possibly for originality, and the fact that it can learn coverage for most types.

And Earthquake on Sceptile isn't going to help much until you get to Steven, so X-Scissor might do you better against that Shiftry that Sidney has.

You do raise a good point, but why not X-Scissor>Leaf Blade instead?
That way it has even greater coverage.

Well, there are a few Pokémon also weak to Grass (like, again, Glacia's Walrein, and Steven's Claydol), so to have something for that would be a good benefit. Also, since Leaf Blade isn't a TM, you're best holding on to it for a little while, at least that's what I would do.

And in case I didn't mention, Superpower would probably be the most suitable fourth move for Azumarill.

Aren't Heart Scales relatively easy to find though? Because Grass Pledge is more suited to Sceptiles stats... although it would feel odd using a Sceptile without Leaf Blade. I'll have to think on that.

Superpower on Azumarill is a good idea.

I'm leaning towards Exploud right now, although Goodra is still something I'm strongly considering. Both are pokemon I love but have never used and want to try out.

Yeah, Heart Scales are easy to get, but my thought process there was that once you're in the Elite Four you won't be able to reteach any moves that aren't TMs, which is why I suggested keeping Leaf Blade for the time. But whichever one you think will do it better, between that and Grass Pledge, since neither of them are TMs.
