We have this discussion every now and again, but with different faces come different opinions, so without further ado...
I've noticed that, particularly lately, we've seen the amount of hubbub erupt over games to levels that I don't think I've seen...for as long as I've been a gamer. The creator of Undertale actually resented the fact that his game got as big as it did, likely because of the hate it garnered because of its popularity and the loudness of its community pretty much betraying his intent for the game to surprise the player (and boy was it loud). Or, looking more recently, the varied and wildly toxic fanbase of No Man's Sky (not all of them, of course) that were looking forward to a different game than what was even coming out.
These are just recent examples, and probably some of the largest, but I can easily see why these types of groups would really make it difficult to get excited over or even interested in an experience that you might otherwise enjoy. So my question is, oes hype around a game, or the fandom that it creates, ever turn you off from a game (or at least, have an impact with your experience with it)?
