We have this discussion every now and again, but with different faces come different opinions, so without further ado...

I've noticed that, particularly lately, we've seen the amount of hubbub erupt over games to levels that I don't think I've seen...for as long as I've been a gamer. The creator of Undertale actually resented the fact that his game got as big as it did, likely because of the hate it garnered because of its popularity and the loudness of its community pretty much betraying his intent for the game to surprise the player (and boy was it loud). Or, looking more recently, the varied and wildly toxic fanbase of No Man's Sky (not all of them, of course) that were looking forward to a different game than what was even coming out.

These are just recent examples, and probably some of the largest, but I can easily see why these types of groups would really make it difficult to get excited over or even interested in an experience that you might otherwise enjoy. So my question is, oes hype around a game, or the fandom that it creates, ever turn you off from a game (or at least, have an impact with your experience with it)?

If a game appeals to me, nobody can turn me off from the game. But if the fandom is obnoxious and praises the game to heavens, it's hard not to look at the game more critically. Since you mentioned Undertale, the community did put me off from playing the game for a while, and when I did get to it, the game felt really disappointing since it didn't live up to the praises. When everyone and their dog say that something is a masterpiece, it's hard not to expect something great, but then when you get something less than that, it feels worse than it is. Don't want to go too deep into Undertale, I still enjoyed the game, just don't think it's the best game ever made.

Obviously he's using Overwatch for views and that youtube money money $$$$s

On topic though, if I would think about the reverse, Infinite Warfare prelaunch was already getting a$$ cucked and fcuked by the community, including the Anti COD fanbase because its not the COD game that people want (They want BEWTS ON THE GROUND, how about I give them boots in the ass) but after Infinity Ward and Activision has provided some concrete multiplayer and single player gameplay footage, the community has slowly accepted the game and are somehow embracing it since it does look like a HUGE STEP UP for the series, taking advantage of the high tech and super futuristic setting that the game is under at.

Its funny, the reason why I'm looking forward to Infinite Warfare is basically of two things: 1) To counter the hate train, and 2) With the sense of hope -> IW is going to be a game that would prove its critics wrong, and I'll just add in a 3rd one -> So that when I meet the same fuccboi retards who were talking bad about Infinite Warfare but decided to get the game anyway, I'd be providing them with the boots to the ass that they are desperately seeking.
