I've seen rarely where Pikachu receives Recoil after using Volt Tackle. (suzuran conference), so will Pikachu continue using Volt Tackle without receiving any damage?
Actually, it can simply be assumed that the recoil damage can vary depending on the physical situation during attack. It may also be that Pikachu is healthy enough to just take the damage sometimes. Remember the anime mechanics are never the exact same as the game mechanics.
Volt Tackle also has other effects in the animé. Pikachu has limited mobility, opponents can usually avoid the attack or dirupt Pikachu itself, and once it begins Pikachu isn't usually able to stop it if ever. It should be receiving recoil damage with the impact though.
When Pikachu uses volt tackle, if we go according to the game mechanics, would take 1/4 (or 1/3?) of the damage it causes as recoil. As far as I remember, in the Anime, whenever Pikachu uses Volt Tackle, it either finishes off the opponent or the oponent evades the move. So we don't get to see the damage Pikachu takes. Also, have you noticed that Pokemon get tired and kinda sweat when battling for long? I think it indicates the damage the Pokemon takes.
Pikachu will still take recoil damage after using Volt Tackle; however, the severity of the recoil may depend on the opponent that it used the attack on.
