here you go
i've put a sort of mini-tutorial in my picture, i'll explain it a little better here.

basically, your sprites have good line art, but the shading lacks depth. this is mainly because you are depending on dithering [the little dots to shade]. i like to use a lot of block shading [pure shades of the colours, like in animation] in my sprites, because it is more characteristic of the pokemon sprite style.

just practise with shading different shapes, i.e. rounded objects, flat objects, until you have a feel for how the shading will work with the shape. then you can apply it onto your sprites, and make them look more 'alive'.

i hope this helps! if you have any questions, just ask.

I updated Fenecoy using the Tutorial, how is it?

it's looking much better! geez you improve quickly :}

short crit - the light source is still not completely consistant, although it is looking better. try drawing a little sun, like i did in the tutorial from where the light is coming from. this should help.

other than that, great stuff!

It was already mentioned, but your light source still isn't consistent here. Your outlining could use some improvement as well. It's just a little choppy in places. You continue to improve though, and that's what counts!! :P

It's Crystal Clair, back for a visit.
Well I was searching through my Marana folder and found this interesting animation I had worked hard on just because I wanted to see a sprite in battle mode. It's a tad slow and some pixels are glitchy but I feel it came out pretty good for last year.

What do you think, for one of my first sprite animations.
If it doesn't move you can just rate the sprite.

that's a very cool sprite, clair! looks like it would have taken an age. i know the last thing you'd want to do is add to it, but i think that the sprite could do with the outlines darkening just a little, to distinguish the features apart a little more. other than that, it's great!

here's your sprite edit! i made the colours a little brighter, changed some shadows and saved it as a GIF. ALWAYS SAVE SPRITES AS A GIF :P

and here's another tutorials for you all. it's basically the 1st one, but made a little clearer.

EDIT: woops, i forgot to do highlights. don't worry kids, i'll do this another day :}

there really isn't much difference, but pixel art is suited more to gif in my opinion [especially sprites, as they have a limited colour pallette - why save to PNG when they'll look exactly the same as GIF]

Hollietree if you save as gif in paint it screws it about just as much as jpg

"image removed" ratei recently joined pokemon elite 2003........ but i never use that account.,
