Would any one be upset if Ash's pikachu learned how to talk like meowth?
Maybe not just like Meowth but say at least one word.
Imagine if something happend to ash like another human hurting him, that pikachu got so angry he yelled NOOOO!!!!, or Ash!!! instead of his usual Pikaaaaaaaaaaaachuuuuuu.

Yeah... I cant even imagine that. Totally bad idea.

If it was "No", there really wouldn't be much point. It's pretty easy to show a pokemon saying no. In fact, most simple words like that are pretty easy to show, and more complicated ones would just look comedic:

Ash: "Iris and Cilan just joined team rocket, while Jesse and James turned good. They want to join us on our journey, but I don't trust them and I don't want to give up on our friends! Pikachu, what do you think we should do?"

    Pikachu: "Pika! Pikachu! Pikapika!"

Ash: "I wish I knew what you were saying. I just want to know how you feel about this situation."

    Pikachu: "......Conflicted."

    Ash: "!!!"

That said, I wouldn't hate it, but I wouldn't like it either. Tolerate is a good word..... I mean I would tolerate it, not that the word "Tolerate" would be a good word for Pikachu to learn.

I would be even more annoyed if Ash's Pikachu were able to talk. I think that if Pikachu were to say just ONE human word, I think that it will throw off his cuteness towards certain viewers.

I just got the title of this thread. It's Planet of the Pikachu, like Planet of the Apes. It makes sense because the topic is about Pikachu learning human speech.

    Funny.

I've gotten so used to Pikachu just saying Pika Pika that I can't see it.

For some reason I imagined that in a super manly voice XD

I liked the idea when I was younger, but now, I just can't see it. It would greatly reduce Pikachu's cuteness factor... and who would play Pikachu in the dub? It just wouldn't work.

The same person who dubbed that Pikachu in the Mystery Dungeon spin-off, perhaps?

Pikachu speaking human language would be too weird. Although I would like to see another random pokemon speaking English like that Gastly. I quite liked the idea in that Orange Islands episode with all the talking pokemon but was then revealed to be voice actors backstage.

I wouldn't mind Pikachu being able to speak in a human language, even briefly, but if Pikachu were to be revealed to keep his human language for an extended time, then Meowth (and Gastly and Slowking) might lose his (their) distinction of being the only non-legendary main Pokemon character who can speak the human language verbally.
