Platinum team sucks

Hey all, first post here. I just want to rant and rave about how much my Platinum team sucks. I'm in the distortion zone, fighting the Team Galactic boss, and there is no freaking way I can win this. And since I refuse to face defeat and am too lazy to navigate my way out of it, train my pokemon better, and then re-enter it, my only course of action is to start the game over. Bah.

My team is: Gastrodon (a decent tank), Infernape (which I left behind because I didn't want to waste HMs on my one good pokemon), Glaceon (meh), Staraptor (meh again), Chimeco (too slow and fragile), and Gabite (good, but not so good against ice).

What really bugs me is that fact that, no matter how many Pokemon games I play, I always keep coming back to my original Pokemon Yellow team: Electrode, Starmie, Tauros, Aerodactyl... heck, let's just stop there. I could win the whole game with just those four Pokemon. Why is it that most new pokemon never seem that good? And those pokemon are just my favorites. There are lots of subs, like: Jolteon for electric, Exeggutor for psychic/grass, Weezing for poison, Persian/Clefable for normal, etc...

Someone help me out here. What are some good pokemon that you can catch in Platinum that are worth training and won't make the game too hard to beat?

For Water Pokemon, you can go with Floatzel. It has good offensive stats to (ab)use Surf and Waterfall with. It also has good Speed.

For Electric Pokemon, you can use Electivire. It has a very good movepool, just like its younger brother, Electabuzz.

For Fire Pokemon use Magmortar. Same situation as Electivire.

Lucario is a very good Pokemon to use because of its good Speed, offensive stats and movepool. Porygon-Z is the next best thing to Alakazam. IMO, Leafeon is better than Glaceon in terms of stat distribution.

Well... I'll make some comparisions between Pokemon you mentioned. *shrugs* the game's 'main' electric type is Luxray (from shinx) who is pretty useful IMO - a bit slow but decent attack and gets Crunch too (and you can always use Jolteon too via that Eevee you get). Lucario is a useful Pokemon as well (get as an egg from Iron Island).

Ralts line was more useful than Chimeco IMO (and Bronzong makes for a very good wall as well), and Gabite is very useful once he eveolves tbh - crazy attack stat makes a dent in pretty much anything.

TBH though a number of the Pokemon you had were at least fine imo - Infernape is good (as long as you don't teeach hmm too may/any HMs that is =p), and Staraptor is useful with Close Combat on top of the normal/flying moves and potentially the best flying type to use in the game (compared to the likes of Chaton and Noctowl anyways, Zubat line can be good though too) - fast and with good attack too.
