    PokéMon Cobalt Black

    The Story:
You start your day out waking up to your war-torn home in Wisteria Town. Your Uncle Koga and Janine came for a visit, and yet again he's urging your Mother, Karin, to make you be a Pokémon Trainer and live up to the family legacy; unlike her. You're indifferent on the subject. After your mother gets drunk that same night relaxing with the family, Koga makes a bet. They have a battle, and the winner gets to decide your fate. You're not as indifferent on this subject. Expectantly, your mother is defeated thus sealing the deal. The next day Janine escorts you to a friend's, Professor Evergreen, house in Azure City. There you receive a PokéDex and the choice of Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip as your starter along with making a new friend and rival, Centron. Afterwards, you're allowed to go sight see the city while Janine makes a call regarding Kanto. When you head to the gym a little girl will speak to you praising the gym leader's power, and also telling you she's not there and you should just come back later. After this required conversation, you head back to the Center and tell Janine you're ready to go. She goes to heal her team before you head out when that same girl enters the center. A cool trainer and his Marshtomp challenge the girl, stating she is the 3rd gym leader. As the two do a battle, Janine explains how to battle. The trainer will lose and the girl will reintroduce herself as the Azure City Gym Leader; Ren. Before you attempt to battle her, she explains that she's no push over and that she won't accept your challenge until you can prove your worth by obtaining two other badges. Heading back home, Janine battles you with her Venonat and you have your first battle. Once you return home, your mother, still worried about you, gives you a special amulet. This will prove important in the future. After which, Koga reassures her of your safety and your journey finally begins. You travel north, to Tyrian Town. There you battle Aetori's Winstrate family, and receive HM 01, Cut. Afterwards, you head over to the gym so you can battle the Mafian Prince, Serafino. You'll receive your first badge after beating him thus proving you are a capable trainer. You next head to Sangria City, and then back to Azure. As you collect badges you'll slowly realize you're caught up in something bigger than ever imagined! Ladies and gentlemen, this is cobalt black!

    UPDATE:

Okay, here's a couple of updates for the game... (even though I feel as if I'm talking to myself)

First of all - The maps of the completed areas, those being Wisteria Town, Tyrian Town, Azure City, Route 500, and Route 501. Please be nice or critical, but don't just say: These suck, and leave... That doesn't help me... at all.

    Wisteria Town:
    Spoiler:
    Route 500:
    Spoiler:
    Route 501:
    Spoiler:
    Azure City:
    Spoiler:
    Tyrian Town:
    Spoiler:
Secondly, the To-Do, Credits, and PokéDex list have been updated, and a second, mini-region has been thought up. I figured 181 PokéMon in the game wouldn't be enough, and because there is a Battle Frontier in my game, and I am going to need more PokéMon, these have been added. Please note that in the game, you won't even receive your National PokéDex until you've seen all 181 and defeated the Elite Four. After you have however, Sunglow City's main walls will be accessible, along with the previously mentioned, unnamed mini-region. This mini-region will not have any gyms, nor will the naming scheme be the same, however, what makes this area so special is that all the trainers have a higher level of skill. (All of their pokes have good movesets and 31 IV spread along with beneficial held items.)

And finally, I've also updated the first post with a Game Status List, Special Features, and added a list of PokéMon that aren't in the game what-so-ever. Beneath this, for anyone who is curious' sake, I've also included a tally of all the First, Second, Third, and Fourth generation PokéMon in Cobalt. The first number being the regional dex, while the second in red, being the complete National Dex.

Pretty Cool so Far. The only thing I can say about is to add a special gimmick that makes gameplay funner.

    Collosseum/XD=Shadow Pokemon
RSE= Contests and the first battle frontier
D/P/PT/HG/SS= pokemon following you, pokewalker, and the global terminal.

My advice: try to stick to a single project. The more you jump around, the less likely you are to finish either game. Anyway, good luck on merging and the project in general.

@ Trigger: You have a point, I'll be sure to keep that in mind, although I'm not sure what hasn't been done yet. Hmm...

@ Xavier: That's what I'm gonna do. Garnet was gonna be made to be the largest, most complex game, or at least require a shizzload of advanced scripting. I'm not gonna start working on it again until I finish Cobalt Burn as this game is to determine what it's gonna take along with a basic, complete script support or w/e you wanna describe it. Plus, the higher the chances of me making this game successful, the more likely I would be capable of forming a team for the other one.

    Anyway, a few more updates/screenshots.
First of all, I've finished the gym badges for the Aetori Region. Personally I only like badges 4 through 7. Badge One needs a deeper red so it doesn't look as though it was poorly shaded. I dislike the design in general for badge 2, but I couldn't think of anything that fit the "Sandy Badge" description. Badge 3 needs to be reshaded, imo. And Badges 7 and 8 scare me. Badge 7 because it reminds me of a death weapon and badge 8 because not only does it look horrible, but it dissappoints me. I was trying to get a badge in the DPP style that had the appearance of an all knowing eye, but... it's... creepy. Oh wow, I'm being critical of my badges and I haven't even shown them yet. *facepalm*
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

    Badge One: Igneous Badge
    Badge Two: Sandy Badge
    Badge Three: Tides Badge
    Badge Four: Grave Badge
    Badge Five: Abyssal Badge
    Badge Six: Swarm Badge
    Badge Seven: Winter Badge
    Badge Eight: Clairvoyance Badge

Also, here's what the main PokéDex bg looks like.
    First Blank:
    Spoiler:

    And now screenshotted:
    Spoiler:

I kinda wanna make my art look less... 2 dimensional, but for now I suppose its just better to get the pack of unsharpened pencils than to waste time sharpening the small one with no eraser you have. (if you understand what I'm saying in my metaphor)

Oh, and lastly I made one of these support banners that everyone has. XD
    They come in Darkrai Purple, Regigigas Blue, and Starter Team Orange. o.o;

    Thanks guys, and
@Notched Ear Pichu: You can call me Garny. XD ...actually don't... now that I think about it, it sounds kinda gay... o-o Anyway...

    UPDATES!

Okay some updates that may be unnoticed:
Small naming errors in the introduction were fixed. I accidently gave the player's mom like 50 different names.
The Game Status has been updated and so has the credits list. (Told you I'll find your posts later. xD)

I've also nearly completed the soundtrack for the game aside from the miniregion, events, and route backgrounds. This means BGM music is nearing completion. I've also finished creating a cave tileset. If you're interested in using it, just give me a PM. I'm gonna compile a copy along with some info for it soon.

Back onto the topic of the mini-region, the name is Graniford...just because it rolls off the tongue. The Graniford region is home to trainers with slightly higher payout and more advanced strategies. All of the Graniford gyms are 100% optional and are just final tests for the player as all of them have Lv 100 teams and are in no specific order (unless you do things chronologically.)

    The Graniford region types are:

    • Rock
    • Electric
    • Normal
    • Poison
    • Fire
    • Fighting
    • Grass
    • Dragon

Also, there is no E4 for the Graniford region, however; once you defeat all the leaders, you will be encountered by Prof. Evergreen and the main character of the opposite gender. Which means the sequences are slightly altered. His or her team resembles that of a rival player, the team changing based on what starter you chose. I know what the three basic type PokeMon will be (Gyarados, Arcanine, Tangrowth) and Snorlax, but for the other two, I'm having trouble deciding. Now you can be a part by helping me choose!

Opponents Lead: Salamence, Jolteon, or Alakazam
Second Slot: Dusknoir, Absol, or Froslass

If Treecko chosen his or her team is:
Scizor, Glalie, Snorlax, Roserade, Gyarados, Blaziken

If Torchic chosen his or her team is:
Jolteon, Heracross, Dusknoir, Tangrowth, Magmortar, Swampert

If Mudkip chosen his or her team is:
Gengar, Rhyperior, Salamence, Arcanine, Azumarill, and Sceptile

    Artwork Update:
Sorry I forgot to post this. XD
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

The main character if male. His default name is West.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

The main character if female. Her default name is East.
Note how I tried to make them more like opposites rather than very similar. East is unusually tall for a female player and West is short for a male. West is based off of Silver from HG/SS while East is based off Marley(?) from the DPPt games. East has a black attire while West has a lighter one. Also, East represents Fall as you can see from the orange colors (colors I just took off of Gloom lol) and West seems more like Spring (or Winter. The white is supposed to be for spring flowers(more specifically the Iris), but can be depicted as snow)

    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

    Gym Leader One: Serafino
    In-Depth Bio:
    Spoiler:

    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
(Her pose is taken from the HG/SS female rocket grunt, her left arm is custom(that would be on your right for those of you who don't feel like thinking.). The blotches on her shirt and pants are Hawaiian style flowers, but that would be more apparent on the vs. Sprite.)
    Gym Leader Two: Terra
    In-Depth Bio:
    Spoiler:

I also did the vs. Sprite for the 3rd gym leader, the young water girl, Ren.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

Expect it to improve. I know it doesn't look quite right, but I'll fix it in the future.

I also have the 4th Elite four member done, Bridgette.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

Obviously, she's just an edit of Karen, but there's still a quite of editing thats been done. I'll do more in the future so she seems more original. (And on a side note, Ren's vs pic... yea it was Bertha with Misty's eyes and A LOT of editing. o.o)

And finally, here's a second version of the badges. I have yet to edit the final badge, but it's on my to-do list. o-o
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

    ...

Oh! One last thing. My friend wanted to help sprite for my game, so I said do the mini-leaders. Well, he kinda made some but... tell me what you think about them. Personally I dislike them, but I don't know how to tell him they're bad without seeming like a *Penny* head, and I don't wanna be a *dove* bag and say, "They're great, and when the final release comes out they're no where to be seen. ._.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
This is his character... even though I've tried to explain multiple times no one is getting their own sprite. x_X
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
This is his version of the fire leader. It's the only one I kinda like really...
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
This is a vigilante detective he made up. he's doing investigation on the sleeping epidemic... (I kinda think it's a looker rip-off. x.x)
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
This is the mono-fighting gym leader. o.o He's friends with him ofc because the guy's a cop. (but looks like a male stripper. x_X)
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
    Why? -_-
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
This is his version of the grass leader... I might just fix her up a tad lot and make her look more original.

So yea, feedback to those sprites too would be nice. o.o

I don't really like double posting but I thought of something unique for my game, but it may or may not be implemented. It depends on my scripting or if someone is willing to help. For now I'll just leave it as an idea until the time to make that decision comes. o.o

    Introducing...

    The PokéTop
    (PokéMon Laptop)

    Features:

    • Note Pad - Type out information you think may be valuable. (Like Poketch's Notes App, except the notes save)
    • PIN (and email) (PokéMon Instant Messaging) - A replacement for a PokéGears phone calls, plus I thought this would seem a lot more convenient in ways, because you can read older messages.
    • Electabay (e-bay) - Buy items online at cheaper prices. However, the items aren't added immediately. They're shipped to the nearest Mart where you can pick up your purchase.
    • PokéEarth - Just the town maps. o.o
    • Media Player - Replaces the PokéGear MP3. I plan to include this so the player can collect the gym leader's theme songs. XD
    • PhotoGallery - View screenshots and pictures found through out the game or taken yourself.
    • Video Player - Play videos obtained or watch recorded battles.
    • Radar - The PokéRadar
    • Online Banking - After opening a bank account at the Myrtle City bank, you can manage your money online. o.o
    • Analyzer - Completely analyzes a PokéMon, telling EV's, IV's, stats, Hidden Power, and any other information. (Event only application)
So, what do you think? o.o

I Love the ideas, Let me say your game is basic! But now before you get all bent outta shape I think thats a very good thing, i'm also trying to keep mine basic. I feel people are trying to do so much and add features people will never use and that doesn't quite fit into their game(me aswell). Also I love the POKeTop it sounds awesome... Your features are awesome, alot of thought has been put into them. Please keep at it. I dont think their is anything that should be improved right now, everything is fine. I'll be keeping track of this topic for the lattest upddate keep at it...

Oh I do what one question did you make those characters?

Do you mean sprites? I did some, my friend did the others at the bottom. Mine are more along the recolors department while he's are chopped and combined sprites. If you mean character development, ect, then yea. o.o I made em all (other than Koga and Janine ofc)

Hi, just me updating/bumping/double posting again. xD
But before I go any further, I just wanna wish everyone an early Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah if you're Jewish...or Kwanzaa if you know what that is because I sure don't... But anyway, with that aside...

    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

EDIT: One of my friends pointed out to me that the top floor kinda looks odd. I'm not really sure if it did or not, but here's a second version.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

This is the Aetori Region PokéCenter. (Credit to Kyledove, Newtiteuf for the tiles. And also to chimcharsfireworked(maybe, he had this enormous tileset on deviant art and I can't remember if I found any useful tiles from it or not..well, credit to him anyway)) The Center utilizes an elevator(that only goes down since the Pokecenter itself doesn't look that large from outside, so it's underground) that can go down a maximum of three floors. If you go one floor down, it's the basic Trade/Battle rooms. Another floor down will lead to a "lodge" like room. Here you can battle a random Center trainer based on the day and your experience. (kinda like Platinum) and also talk to NPC's who may or may not tell you something interesting or read pinned papers on the wall that are referring to someone in need. (Something Mystery Dungeon-ish, except more than likely it'll be something easy like show [insert name] a zubat and recieve a Heal Ball. The final floor leads down to a room thats too look similar to the bottom floor of the DPP pokecenter. And of course, give access to a wifi plaza. (for now though, they're undergoing maintence)

And here's rough drafts of the vs. pics for the main characters.

    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

I'm having trouble getting his pony tail to look right. But after I perfect that and maybe a few touch ups on the shading, he'll be good to go.

    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

I can't say I'm halfway done with her, but I can't really say I have barely started on her either. But before we continue, let's again see what East needs to look like:
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

Plus, the closest thing I could use as a base was Candice's vs Pic. Anyway, what I have left to do on East is:
-Touch up her hair (it is supposed to look basic like that though)
-Fix up her eyes. (She's supposed to have more of the "idc about you. -_-" Facial expression.
-Her clothes I've barely started on, but as you can see, what I have started on I'm struggling with.
-And finally I need to add a ribbon in her hair. (It's a bow on the sprite, but I'm gonna change that. So she won't look so much like Marley.)

And lastly, I've began on the custom OWs. ere's what I've completed of West.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

So yea, any feedback to that would be nice too. And someone please tell me what you think about my friends sprites. x_X

Hey guys... Just a small update, and some help...

I went ahead and updated a small portion of the first post like I've been meaning to do, and I also created an album for the maps. Just go to my gallery or w/e...

And now for what I need help with:
I'm currently having some serious worker's block. I have so much to do, yet I can't stay focused on one thing long enough to get anything done. It also seems as if every time I think I get a little closer, I find out there's five things I've overlooked. x_X So, any advice? Well-known, praised developers, did you ever have this issue? x_X

EDIT: Worker's block is just a stage. And it's over. o.o; So... yea, I'm working again.

(Bump!) Well, no, not actually... I have a question for the lurkers/thieves/fans/supporters/curious bystanders/audience.

As you know, the basic resolution for essentials matches that of the GBA games rather than the DS. Because of this, all my 4th gen sprites in game were resized to 128 x 128 via Microsoft Photo Gallery. It makes them slightly blurred, but isn't nearly as bad as a resize done from point. Here's an example:
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
    Resized to 128 by Paint.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
    Resized to 128 by Photo
    Gallery.

As you can see, the Hoothoot appears to be duller and smoothed out, however; it's not all pixelated and er... scraggly-ish-erm?...
In game, the dullness isn't all that noticable imo.
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

However, by showing you this battle screen, it comes around to the other issue. I just doubled the battle bg to fit accordingly. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the price of tea or not. I also made sure the 4th gen enemy base was roughly around the same position as the 3rd gen, so it wouldn't be so far down by a ridiculous amount. But, the enemy base also sits on the edge, which isn't ideal.
I'm also aware that the enemy base goes farther down, beneath the player's health box, but...
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn
    PokéMon: Cobalt Burn

Going down any farther won't do me any favors.

Basically, what I'm getting at is should I change the game resolution to match the DS's? And if I do should I do it after an initial demo is released, or before. By resizing it, I'll have to resize everything else, redo the PokéMon sprites, and edit a couple of scripts... well, maybe more than a couple. It would take some time. .-.

    Oh, and anyone who already has upgraded to higher resolution, tips, things to remember, all of that, along with constructive criticism, is always welcome. o.o;
