Hey! I've been playing the original pokemon games for a long time, kind of out grew it by gen 3 but I have kids now and my son loves Pokémon, he's got a switch and every pokemon book I can find, he's a pokemon expert in all the things I missed while I wasn't playing. Recently he wanted to design his own game map. I drew something up for him and it evolved into a full fledged game story. Both of us are super invested and would love to turn it into a GBA game but I know absolutely nothing about game development or rom hacks. It's got a fairly complex story, a few newly created pokemon we'd love to see, lots of nostalgia and new adventures. Can anyone help or advise me on what to do?
I have a 30+ page story outline written up and I'd like to include a few new pokemon my son and I created together

Hello Valleyg1988, and welcome to the forums!

You can check the Fan Games sections for everything related to fan games, ROM hacks and how to make them!
The Recruitment section is the place to join a project or to ask for help in making one!
It is great to hear you created a full story and enjoyed it. I for one am eager to hear more about it! Does it involve some regular Pokémon as characters of the story ?

Hello there and welcome to the PC!

Yeah, this is really more of a topic for one of the ROMhack/Fangame sections. But since someone else already greeted you here, we can roll with it lol.

Do you and your son have any favorite Pokemon?

The story itself will bring in old characters and pokemon interactions for a nostalgic feel and I really wanted to included a main character "alignment" portion to the game. So if you ever played Star Wars knights of the old republic, that's what I was aiming for, the main character interacts with the world and can earn "good" or "evil" points eventually leading to a choice of joining the "evil" side and helping dominate the region or joining the heroes rescuing a pokemon captured by the evil side and freeing the region of their influence. I have a plan for 2 of the original 151 to have a very important role in the story, I also brought back Brock but this time he's now a newly minted pokemon professor who took the position because he was concerned about the dark group terrorizing the region, I thought that idea would help bring the story back to the roots of Pokémon.
As I was writing the story it is working itself more into a trilogy of games my son and I have been calling pokemon Legacies.
Some of my favourite pokemon are Snorlax, Raichu, Annailape. My son's favorite are snorlax, cinderace, and Rayquaza.
Some of the newly created pokemon are evolutions of current pokemon like Onix, Weezing and Weepingbell.

    This looks nice!
I wish you the best of luck to see your story get its fan game!

    Hiya, Vallleyg1998!
It's great to meet you, and welcome to the forums!
I have to say, this is an amazing thing - like, putting in the effort to create and develop a potential game project, alongside a person you care about.
Unfortunately, I have no tips to give you. I know practically nothing about coding or programming, so I think you should follow the tips that people gave you above my message.
You two will be able to do something incredible, I'm sure of it!
I wish you luck with your project!
