How many have played through Gen 2 and thought: "Wow that would have been much better with a logical level curve." Or just wanted a remake of Johto with a higher difficulty? Welcome to Grueling Gold, a difficulty fan game of Gen 2, developed in v20.1 of Pokemon Essentials. Some things you'll find:

    • mega evolution, including some custom megas
    • updated base stats and movesets for normally underused Pokemon
    • competitively challenging boss battles, gym leaders and rivals
    • added story elements to combine the nostalgia with a fresh take
    • custom moves and abilities to give a more interesting competitive battling scene
    • 2 difficulty levels
    • an option to removing grinding and EVs
    • a nuzlocke option
    • A Dexnav that works with day and night cycle so you can chain hunt encounters for shinies or egg moves and hidden abilities
    • use of Essentials Deluxe to insert boss Pokémon and certain gimmicks within battles
    • a completely reworked and custom AI to optimize the battle experience and make the game actually difficult
    • Pokémon from gens 1-9 including DLC mons from both Teal Mask and Indigo Disk!
    • a fully working randomizer that can randomize encounters, static and gift mons, trainer teams, level up moves, and abilities
    • Expert mode now plays a good bit differently from normal mode! (1.2.0 update)
    • Following Pokemon added as of 2.5.0

This first main release completes the Johto story with a Kanto post-game to follow at a later date.

when i downloaded it it keeps asking me to download the .NET Core. any fix to this right now?
    Go to this link

    Then install these two here:

Please note: You need to download BOTH of these exact downloads in their x64 versions. The Launcher should run fine after that

Grueling Gold also now has a Hard Mode! This mode has all of the Expert trainer teams, but none of the Expert Mode restrictions on moves and abilities. It also has all of the encounters that Normal mode has. So if Expert was not your cup of tea, but Normal wasn't quite hard enough for you - this is what you want!

Randomizer modes apply in Hard mode as well, so go nuts there as well!

I can't find a pokedex in the documentation with all the level up moves and what TMs and Tutor moves each Mon can learn.

Hey there! A lot of that is a current work in progress as the game is continuously updating (amongst content updates too!). If you are a discord person, feel free to join us there and ask questions.

I didn't find that option? I only see normal and expert. And is there a alazaite mega stone can't seem to find on the doc

Get this code while playing hard mode and the AI don't attack after. Kinda kills the challenge.

AI bugs are being smoothed out, shouldn't be an issue for very long. I'm not the dev (just a humble moderator), but bugs are addressed quickly. Apologies!

Also, hope you see Hard Mode now as an option! The old versions of the game don't automatically update, so best to download a fresh copy if you aren't seeing it. For clarity, the latest version of the game as of this post (May 15th, 2024) is: 2.9.47

    Hey,
I wanted to ask if anyone else has the problem that controller keybinds won't save (via F1). It basically resets them after restarting the game.
I tried everything I could think of already - Only run as admin, change Game Location, change Appdata folder permission. Sadly nothing works

Looking at the PokeMon locations but for some reason now that it;s updated I can't find the following PokeMon and their locations
Heatmor which is now Fire/Ground with Earth Eater so only weak to Water (Yes I know its 4x weak to water)
    Rilou/Lucario
Paldean Starters. I plan to pick Mudkip

    hey guys
    can someone help me please..
how to evolve pawmo in that game? .. there is nothing in the documentation.

IMO the best HGSS Rom Hack there is. Very very good. Even on normal its a challenge which is all i needed, I appreciate all the guys that worked on it. Cant wait for Kanto!!!!

But just like Snypa said, how do Pokémon like Pawmo etc evolve? So much evolution items but no clue for whom it is and do we need to give them the items and level them up and taking steps etc.
