A cold breeze blew through the sky. Luther shivered, being unadjusted to the temperature. With nothing to do, he decided to reflect on what had just happened as he and his partner soared through the skies. "We've gotten ourselves into quite a mess, haven't we?" he asked his Dragonite. The pokemon merely nodded, focusing on staying aloft. Luther closed his eyes, and began to remember.
During the last 3 years, he had spent most of his free time hunting for Ash Ketchum, the trainer that had eluded him for over a decade. The one who brought disgrace upon the master of the Vermilion City gym. Exhausted, but far from any form of civilization, Luther decided to rest upon the sea. What followed were 2 days of drifting across the ocean, being carried along the waves by the will of fate. They did that a lot. A chance encounter with a pokemon duel between two complete strangers is all it took to set in motion the events that would write the next chapter of his life.
An odd group of people gathered on Cinnabar purely by coincidence. Was it really just coincidence? No, it can't be just that. There's something else going on. The Unown, some suspicious people, and a bunch of weirdos all in the same place? There has to be something big at work here!
Luther opened his eyes, knowing full well what he had to do. What his job as a member of the Pokemon League Paranormal Investigation Bureau required him to do. Reaching deep into the folds of his cloak, he pulled out a small, handheld computer resembling a PDA. A modified version of the standard Pokénav, featuring a wireless high-speed, long-distance e-mail transmission service. Standard gear for members of the agency, though it was hard to tell the difference between it and a normal Pokénav. In truth, Luther himself had a hard time telling the difference between the two. But who was he to question the higher ups?
Hitting the power button, a small image of the Bureau's logo, the same symbol on the back of his cloak, appeared on screen while a short jingle began to play through the single mounted speaker. Rather pointless, but again, Luther wasn't going to argue with the League. After a few moments, the logo was replaced by a menu interface. Luther selected the E-mail function, and began to write his message.
"Hello, Sabrina, my adorable little sidekick. I'm transmitting this from the airspace between the Cinnabar and Seafoam islands. Got some interesting news. Do you remember the Missingno incident? I've got a feeling this may be related. About an hour ago, the main volcano on Cinnabar erupted. Not only that, the island was hit by a series of conveniently placed tidal waves. Two distasters at once? Surely something fishy's going on. I have an inkling that Team Magma was behind the volcano, but I have nothing to confirm that.
Furthermore, a short while prior to that, a group of Unown attacked myself and a group of other trainers. They opened up a wormhole of sorts, oddly similar to the dimensional tear Missingno created 3 years ago. We escaped with a little help from Espeon, but I think I've stumbled into something major. I'm heading towards Seafoam now, but I'll meet you in Fuschia. Wait for me!
-Your awesome partner, Luther"
He sent the message, and immediately spotted a few figures in the water below. Curious, he ordered Dragonite to dive for a closer look.
